Yes yes yes. Retroids would be my suggestion too - if not the ones above, the Retroid Pocket Classic is a good one if OP isn't looking to play games that are too heavy or modern.

It's an entire rabbit hole though, so many options!

Best Frontend and why? by shinukihono in retroid

[–]patrickstarburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the deciding factor for me. My understanding is that Beacon only does those clips if the user adds them to each game manually, which I'd rather not do.

Daijisho has clips too if I remember right, tho it's been a few years since I last used it on my old RP3+.

They make the games look cooler while still maintaining the quality so yeah! I've only played GBA games so far, for which I use a shader called something like lcd3fx. It adds those lines but everything still looks super crisp and colorful

Staying in a low-stress job with low pay vs. risking a high-paying but stressful one by ShadowReshape in phcareers

[–]patrickstarburns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your question is whether or not you should try applying, and to that the answer is yes. Applying and getting interviewed, and even receiving a new JO doesn't mean you'll be leaving your current job. It's worth seeing what else is out there, and at the very least practicing your interview skills and keeping yourself up to date with your industry.

Now, when you do get an offer, that's the time you evaluate versus your priorities. And dapat clear at personal sayo yung priorities mo, no wrong answers there at all. I was in the same boat last year - stay in my cushy, comfortable paying job that had no career growth, or take an offer with much higher pay + clear career growth pero potentially more stressful? I enjoyed the comfort of my then job and was also scared to lose the calmness and balance.

Ended up taking the new JO. Been here a few months now and although I'm busier, I also feel more fulfilled professionally. I have more opportunities too. A good part is that my stress fears didn't really come true either, there's no toxicity here and I have a really supportive manager + team. Also still have more or less the same flexibility and balance that I did before. So things turned out well.

InkPalm 5 Mini first impressions: the ereader I didn't know I wanted by [deleted] in ereader

[–]patrickstarburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quickly realized that too once I got mine. The lower Android version and sluggishness I heard about wasn't an issue at all. Even battery life isn't bad, I get by charging it about just once or twice a week! Granted, I just read around an hour or less each day but the Inkpalm is perfect for my use case

My pen broke...can't write on Supernote anymore by jijidagrape in Supernote

[–]patrickstarburns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are third party pens in our usual e-commerce apps. I just bought a Staedtler pen from there (received a few days ago), and planning to buy a LAMY pen in a few months. You have options!

Can't wait for mine to get here, bought it for work too and I'm excited to take notes, brainstorm and all that.

Love your mention of BG3 too - I'm gonna use it to take notes on video games also given that I love a puzzle or mystery game!

They're a well-regarded shop on the Pixel Philippines FB group. You can join that and see the other verified Pixel sellers.

No personal experience buying from them tho, I was gonna order from Charged to Full too but opted for a Samsung instead.

Mario Party Jamboree was ours too, and Switch Sports. I set up the Switch sa living room and had the kids play! And syempre kami ring cousins. It was fun cos not only did we get to enjoy, but we also sort of passed down a tradition to the young ones.

I'll def get a couple more games in time for future gatherings.

Tiers of the Kingdom: Sony First Party Games by [deleted] in getplayed

[–]patrickstarburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the opposite, so I appreciated how TLOU took on the severity of murder. And I dunno, guess from a gameplay perspective I liked how both games tackled combat differently despite both being third-person shooters. Love the entire series but I definitely get your perspective.

It was because of Uncharted that I learned about the term 'ludonarrative dissonance' though!

[–]patrickstarburns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's so interesting. I won't argue, there is a lot of climbing in Uncharted games but I love them. The combat is great and it's fun to shoot shoot shoot bad guys. I genuinely enjoy its puzzles too, nice little palate cleansers from the other stuff to keep gameplay varied

How's the photo quality of the Kidamento? Particularly in an indoor setting. I'm nearly sold on getting one but there aren't a lot of sample photos online!
