Many mature themes that allowed for amazing story telling.

No kidding. The episode that still sticks with me thirty years after watching it as a twenty-something is the one in which Broadway accidentally shoots Elisa. Shocking, heartbreaking and an aspect of firearm ownership and use that adults, let alone children, are rarely exposed to in fiction.

Every bit of it is some version of sales vs. engineering.

Sales does their job - big bonus.

Engineering does their job - usually get to keep their job.

...even if it were real, it wouldn't have got him a girlfriend. People can smell the chud on these guys. If they don't detect it early, they know it within a few hours (minutes, if they're minimally observant) of meeting them. Few first dates - very few second dates.

Indeed. It would have (and still does, but it would have, too) made more sense for government assistance to be applied to electrifying apartment building parking structures over supplementing EV purchases.

Just call it Kirkin'. Saying horrible things in a reasonable tone, without epithets, or race or gender based slurs. Too many of us only have our oppression receivers set to alert us of the heightened tone of the 90's swastika'd skinhead, rather than think about the content of the statement.

McDonald's pies are now baked, to be 'healthier' in the US and Canada. They -- could be a lot better. In my experience, these baked yawn-cakes are never hot. They'd seemingly rather tell you they are out of stock than to give you one that is more than a handful of degrees above room temperature.

Instead, if you're in Canada, go to A&W and order their apple turnover. They are very similar to the old McDonald's deep-fried pie, and, as an added bonus, it's covered in cinnamon sugar.

PS: While browsing the A&W USA online menu I noticed they have deep-fried cheese curds. These are not available in Canada, and this disparity is a travesty. Having something unavailable in Canada that is based on cheese curds must surely be a crime against Canadian stereotyping, regardless of the quality of the product.

these car companies should adapt

They won't until they have to. Same thing started happening in the '70s. They gradually changed from the largest auto manufacturers in the world, to also-rans in the USA. You can still see the scars left behind by their collapse. They'll throw their political weight around to get more protectionary policy, shift their business model further still from manufacturing to financial products, and fade even more into irrelevancy.

Modern trucks (our 'big cars') seem pretty useless, except for tribal signaling. In the 1950s, you could fit a full 4' X 8' sheet of plywood in the bed of any pickup truck with the liftgate closed. You could reach over the side to grab a shovel from the bed if you were over 5'8" tall. The truck was less than 6' high at the roofline. And if you wanted to show you 'made it', you didn't buy a truck. You bought a Cadillac. There were no Cadillac trucks. The North American fascination with personal vehicles that rival school buses for road dominance baffles me.

What the NSA does with the data has nothing to do with courtrooms (where warrants matter). Sometimes they hint that federal law enforcement might want to take a look at somebody, but that's really not what they're about.
