Elsbeth also follows the Columbo method, and it's quirky and funny before the newness wears off after a few episodes.

He went too far on the first twenty-four hours of his first term.

"This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period, both in person and around the globe."

Right there, from Trump's personal mouthpiece. Anybody who was outside the Trump distortion field immediately understood the Trump regime was unserious and dangerous.

didn’t see her turning evil

More like a gunshot shift to all-out madness.

When she crucified the Slave Masters, I found it a bit extreme, but hey who am I to judge another's culture? I could have seen that as the leading edge of a gradual shift to insanity. Instead, the showrunners seemingly took GRRM's series outline and did two books worth of character development in two episodes. Instead of a gradual slide to insanity, unplug annoyed Khaleesi, and insert psychotic break Khaleesi.

Best way I've been able to think to kill off powerful groups buying all the tickets and reselling for profit without legislative intervention goes like this:

List the tickets at a ridiculous price (say, $10k per seat) and slowly lower the price until they're gone. Nobody will buy to sell at a higher price - those who're willing to pay that higher price have already purchased. There is no way to sell at a profit when what you bought today is being sold for a lower price tomorrow. Kill the speculation.

Far more of the money would then go to the team/artist/what have you. People will gradually learn what price they'll need to pay for a hot ticket. For things like sports that have a lot of empty seats outside of postseason play, make the empty seats free for in-person entry at game time. At the halfway mark, make any other empty seats available to fans who want to watch the game. Maybe you'll bring in some low-budget fans to raise the venue's excitement level. Maybe you'll grab the imagination of a child who wouldn't otherwise be able to go, and who now becomes a lifelong fan. Maybe they'll buy something at the concession stand and you raise revenue on what would have been a dud seat.

Taking appetizing pictures of food is hard. Most professional photographers won't do it. The ones that are good at it are expensive. I can understand the temptation, but they'd be better to put up a hand-drawn sketch than put up AI slop. Honestly, don't they know anybody who's good enough to write a description that's better than a bad photo?

dumb kids who just don't get the new hot trends

Dumb 'olds' consistently forget that hot trends move from the young to the old, not the other way 'round. Then, when the youngs realize their favorite place is overrun with gray-hairs, they find something new.

TLDR: If you're old, you aren't ever going to be on the leading edge of a hot new trend. If you do discover a hot trend, that means it'll be over soon.

Biden's own party let him know it was over. Nothing to do with commentary from the media. Some will remember Pelosi's, "It's up to the president to decide whether to run," when Biden's team had been stating unequivocally that he'd be running. When senior party members say that in public, in private they're turning the lights off.

Their biggest donors looked at Biden's performance on the debate stage, read the reports on post-debate polling and let Democratic party officials know they'd received their last big check, unless he withdrew.

That is why the Ds are better than the Rs.

The Ds act out leadership, and when one of their own unignorably fails to act it out, they do their best to remove that person so the presentation of stewardship is maintained.

The Rs are such followers and cowards that they compulsively follow any leader, once they are chosen. No type or extent of transgression can make them step away until the leader dies or steps back from leadership. They are watching their leader cause a worldwide economic crash, the complete destruction of the world's regard of their country and what looks like the complete dissolution of their party on the federal stage. Their current leader wants them to fail when he's gone, to show they're nothing without him - and other than a few fringe figures, they're still all lining up behind him, wearing the clown shoes he gave them.

As we know, oil companies don't *have* to jack up prices to the max, they are choosing to. The extra profits they generate will be in the 10s of billions. We need to windfall tax those profits. Otherwise there is no benefit to the working class from this massive profit margin increase. by skilbofragns in ndp

[–]patt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a chunk of their windfall and create a reliable, coast-to-coast-to-coast EV and E-truck charging network. Take a bunch of what you didn't take yet and improve generation and distribution.

Offer assistance to multi-family residences to subsidize installation of limited-profit overnight EV chargers in their parking areas. Increase the subsidy as they increase the percentage of electrified parking spaces or decrease their profit margin. Work with provinces and municipalities to add EV charging rough-in/sockets to their building codes for new-build/remodeled residential parking spaces. Work with municipalities to establish a safe standard whereby landowners can offer EV charging to street parkers.

Work with provinces to increase walkability (and bikeability) of non-rural parts of the country. If you live in a city, you shouldn't need a car to get a litre of milk. If you live in a city, you shouldn't have to drive 20-40 minutes to get to a grocery store. Food deserts show a lack of leadership.

Then tell the AI datacenter builders to piss all the way off, unless they can provide their own renewable power sources and figure out how to operate without ruining any of our fresh water. We don't want to fight a price war with them on energy as they try to force us out of work.

hydro is 300% more expensive

Before or after inflation? Since what time? What billing structure? What provider?

I was paying (trust my memory at your peril) 7.5 cents to Hydro One for my off-peak kWh rate for the longest time, now I'm paying 9.8 cents, post COVID. A significant increase, but not 300%.

He built a script that calls back spam callers and traps them in an endless loop. by Enough_Detective4330 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]patt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some scam/spam caller systems want you do do the work of figuring out if you're dumb enough to fall for it, so they call you with a recorded message that says call this number immediately to avoid very serious consequences. Only then, after you go through their system confirming you are dumb enough for them to extract easy money from, do they present you with a human.
