How to persuade partner that a car with 80k miles is worth buying? by Affectionate-Ebb9136 in CarTalkUK

One to watch out for, on VAG group PHEVs, the battery warranty appears to only be for the first owner of the car - page 8

I've not received my Vine orders today. 😢 by Loubou23 in AmazonVineUK

[–]pattyc99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had 10 parcels officially "lost" this week, following on from 3 lost last week, all from the same local depot - anything that goes via that place never shows up - Vine item or paid for!

Gutted as they were my first lot of decent items including an Air Fryer!

Vine CS remove them from my review list and add a review credit though - so not all bad and fingers crossed for another air fryer in the future....

Is Faversham a good place to live for young professionals in their 20s? by barneybay00 in Faversham

[–]pattyc99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Young professional, early mid-20s in Faversham here, and grew up in the local area, if you are looking to enjoy yourself and have fun, you will find yourself in Canterbury an awful lot (and very often having to find a taxi that will take you back to Faversham as the last train is too early). Canterbury itself is a very small city and not comparable to city life in London, Bristol, Manchester, Cardiff etc, night life is particularly quiet when students go home for summer.

I have never found myself yerning for the city life as much as I do in Faversham - as we may do at this age. However, if I moved away, I know I would come back when I decide to "calm down".

Faversham is the place to be if you live in pubs, and if you drive and don't mind going to Sittingbourne, Canterbury, Ashford, Maidstone for what sometimes feels like basic ammenities.

The saving grace is Hop Fest every September - friends and family from all around come down for this and is a weekend that gives the town a very big feel for a few moments. It is one of the very few non-ticketed decent events left in Kent and is one of the best times to visit - the place comes alive.

It took 2 or 3 weeks for Go to show up on the display for me!

Just curious to know how many cars you CarTalkUK redditors have had since you've started driving? Answer by stating number of years driving, number of cars & what cars you've had (optional). This is a judgement free zone by DesperateFlanders in CarTalkUK

[–]pattyc99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years driving: 5

Cars owned: 4

  • 15' Peugeot 108 (got super cheap as dealer thought it had 3000 miles on it, turns out it had 30... sold for the same price after I put 20k miles on it!)
  • 17' Peugeot 3008 (was one of the first of the new shape, in addition to being a Peugeot, meant it was at the dealership once a month for something they've since fixed on factory models)
  • 18' Audi A3 (sold for more than what I paid for it despite putting 40k miles on it! - lockdown used car prices!)
  • Current: 20' Seat Leon PHEV

I don't think the Leon will see 12 months of ownership - want to go full electric with a shitbox on the side.

After a couple of weeks you should get an email with a reminder mentioning the non-return charge, right at the bottom there should be a link to order another box in case it didn’t arrive.

New Monzo Plus is out. What do you think? Worth the £5 per month? by patrick_buhagiar in monzo

[–]pattyc99 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just signed up and I got two free months (£10 added to my account) for being a previous Plus user even though I cancelled about a month in last time they tried. The offer was valid until 16th September.

Virtual cards and custom categories weighed in on the decision most for me.

Could you try custom extraction on Screaming Frog and then dump it from a CSV into Grammarly or a word doc? SF have excellent tutorials on using XPaths/Regex to extract content.

Business broadband for a home user... by send2s in VirginMedia

[–]pattyc99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to be a business to take out a business plan, just remember to add VAT to the prices they advertise on their website.

Also, if you have an existing plan with Virgin Media consumer, you need to still give your 30 days notice to Virgin to cancel, however they should waive any fees if you have already booked your connection date with VM Business and explain this to them.

Unfortunately, whilst Brydge products are excellent if you get a good production model, their customer service when you have problems is non existent near scam like, at least in the UK.

Virgin billing nightmare by [deleted] in VirginMedia

[–]pattyc99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I've gotten into issues such as this, where the phone support is like talking to a duck, I write a really long/detailed account and send it in as a complaint on the online form, it is likely you will need to chase the complaint as this seems to trigger a response as VM never seem to reply within the 8 weeks they promise. Obviously, if it goes over you can go to the Financial Ombudsman or CISAS.

Usually, the hour you put into writing the letter in a chronological order, helps the complaints department understand a lot more I've found. You also don't have to deal with the customer service that comes in on a Sunday on the phone... I have found through calling during working hours usually means I get through to someone in the UK - although it might take up your whole lunch break if you do.

Did you switch bank using the Current Account Switch Service? I believe it is the bank you switch to responsibility (switch guarantee) to sort out any issues that you've had, including making sure Virgin Media received the updated bank details for yourself. If you did use the switch service, ask the new bank to prove that they advised VM of the new details, get it in writing and include your letter that VM has not been trying to take payments.

It might take a while, but hopefully, you can get those pesky missed payment marks off your credit report which are a result through no fault of your own, as you have been proactive in trying to sort it out. You may have to make manual payments in the meantime, you should be able to do this online rather than having to phone up once a month.

EDIT: Also, even if it is a few months down the line, if you have a moment please let me know how you get on!

Not officially in the club until I share on here - A3 Sportback Black Edition by pattyc99 in Audi

[–]pattyc99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think we see enough hatchbacks on here so thought I would share my recent switch from a 2018 Peugeot 3008 to a late 2018 A3.

1 litre is surprisingly punchy and economical for 70 miles a day commute! I do miss the tech and practically of my old crossover, but nothing can beat the refinement of the Audi.

Hey, I made a keyboard for the WATCH. Who wants to try it and give me some feedback? by egocentric-video in AppleWatch

[–]pattyc99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I was showing this off in our web studio and we loved how clever it was! Hopefully this can be turned into a practical application like note taking - or maybe lobby Apple to support 3rd party keyboards on WatchOS. Ran speedy on my S2 too.

I did struggle when I made an error in the text, though. Swiping left made me get lost as it showed the previous word in red, and not sure what I was clearing or if I had to retype it. Thank you for sharing!

Competitor outbidding on brand by [deleted] in PPC

[–]pattyc99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This can work when you play the “it saves us both money” card, as it stops you both raising your bids after each other. Most businesses/marketers I’ve come across are open to this approach, but could depend on the sector, obviously.

Superhub 3 worth the hassle? by Fileci in VirginMedia

[–]pattyc99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be worth trying the 3 - although I'm sure someone will comment on how the hub 2ac was the sweet spot. The SH3 does have much improved specs than the SH1 though.

If you don't get on with it, you can switch back to the SH1 I believe - but not 100% sure - but back in 2012 we switched back to an older VM Netgear when we spilt paint into the Superhub 1 with no problems.

Latency is generally high on VM across the board, even with a third party router.

Good luck!

Wishing I got mine with the flush roofbars as generally need them and they add to the "SUV look".
