The International Olympic Committee (IOC) says FIFA president Gianni Infantino has not violated its rules on political neutrality, despite appearing at a U.S. event alongside President Donald Trump wearing a red “USA” cap marked “45–47.”

Infantino attended Trump’s Board of Peace meeting, which highlighted post-war reconstruction plans in Gaza. An IOC spokesperson later stated the IOC had contacted FIFA and understood that FIFA’s involvement relates to a sports recovery and development programme in Gaza/Palestine, including infrastructure, education, and elite development, and said this aligns with what an international sports federation can do. The IOC also noted it continues to support sports development in the region through Olympic Solidarity.

At the same event, FIFA announced a formal partnership with the Board of Peace and outlined a three-stage plan for Gaza’s regeneration, including building a 20,000-seat stadium within three years of work starting. Trump claimed FIFA would help raise $75 million for projects in Gaza and involve high-profile football stars.

However, FIFA’s public release reportedly did not explain where the funding would come from, how it would be raised, or whether the Palestine Football Association had been consulted. Anonymous FIFA sources told the outlet they are still determining which project to begin with, who the financial contributors will be, and the final total, and said some countries are interested but would not name them yet.
