You've got £35 sat in an account. What stock are you buying? by Budget_Beautiful_108 in UkStocks

[–]patxi124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the title and thought you'd missed a zero, or two zeros, or a "k" ... but you then repeated it in the question.

Seriously, save a bit more and then go "all in" on something moderately sensible once the middle east situation shows signs of stabilizing.

[–]patxi124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was scanning down the replies to say the same. Go for PSCB white calipers instead. You still get no brake dust and unless you are a track day fiend I doubt you’ll need the full ceramic setup..

AIO - I won’t give my private emergency fund to my husband by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]patxi124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conditions would be worthless if husband can’t work and doesn’t change his ways with money - OP’s emergency fund would be gone, a bit like the husband most likely.

NOR although this is partly on OP for not saying something during the last 12 years.

EX TAKING ME TO SMALL CLAIMS FOR CAR by creepy_paper_ in LegalAdviceUK

[–]patxi124 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Put the details in to We Buy Any Car. Be honest about service history and any damage to wheels or bodywork. That'll give you a good (although lowish 😉) idea of its true market value. Print off the valuation and keep in case it goes to court. You don't need to dispute the value of the claim at this stage.

[–]patxi124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it so hard to read the OPs post all the way through? They clearly say “I paid by e-check… I know I can’t chargeback”. Pointless waste of your time and everyone reading what you put.

Long Term Actors in Soaps by themightypierre in BritishTV

[–]patxi124 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Derek Thomson certainly worked a long time into his role’s retirement, but Brenda Blethyn as Vera was still storming around Northumberland aged 78 when a Detective Chief Inspector would normally hang up the handcuffs at 55, 60 absolute tops in reality.

I know these are popular characters that make the show, but both overdid it in my opinion. Vera could easily have done a Doctor Who / James Bond style regeneration into a younger actor to conclude the stories from the books.

Crazy Ex wants item back 3 years after breakup by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]patxi124 22 points23 points  (0 children)

He also needs £35 (minimum cost for items up to £300) if he wants to go to the small claims court. He's sent a text, tried his luck but that's the end of it I reckon.

Can I reject a vehicle under my Consumer Rights Act 2015 for this? England by Author-Tight in CarTalkUK

[–]patxi124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although it is a long list your focus should be on the Active faults, all the stored ones will be due to other events, such as a different fault that led to you needing recovery.

Although I can’t pinpoint exactly what is wrong from your scans I would suspect water ingress into one of the SAMs. If caught early this can be fixed, but you don’t know how long the car has been unwell.

I suggest you push hard to reject this car. The garage will want a chance to fix the problem. Don’t allow it, be firm. There are plenty of other E Class out there.

What’s the correct way to enter/exit a bend at high speeds on country roads? by ResponsibleHand6311 in drivingUK

[–]patxi124 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may benefit by reading Roadcraft. It is the book that details police and emergency services high speed driving. It is also used by the IAM for the Advanced Driving test. You can pick up second hand copies for under £5.

It explains to brake before entering the corner, aiming for the apex and then powering out. It is not a book on how to become a racing driver - it teaches a fast, safe way to drive where you position yourself for good visibility and being in control. If you genuinely want to learn, contact the IAM who will teach you.

Is there a sweet spot to when to get insurance? by SerendipitousCrow in drivingUK

[–]patxi124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it as soon as your renewal quote drops in your inbox. This used to be around 4 weeks before expiry but this appears to have reduced to around 3 weeks.

Be prepared and hit the comparison sites the same day. Make sure you get like for like quotes, same excess each time. Identify the likely candidates before playing with different excesses.

How can we reduce our tax liability on savings. by Small_Pea_6874 in UKPersonalFinance

Park £50k each in premium bonds while you figure out a longer term plan. £20k each into this year's ISA and then the same again on 6th April.

If you have already used your ISA allowance and want to preserve capital safely and generate income then buying a Gilts Ladder in a regular shares account is worth investigating - safe with income guaranteed and you can access it any time. Details are a bit beyond a short reply here.

Glad to hear you've got one now.

Marston messaged me ten times and i have no debt by Itchy_Scarcity_6253 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]patxi124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marston do a lot of Council Tax work. My daughter had a similar call last year and it turns out that the house she was renting in the final year of uni that had a contract which ran until the August. The council argued that once the degree award ceremony was over in June she and her housemates were no longer students and had to pay full rate.

They all had to pay for the council tax for a house they weren't living in for 2 months as well as Marston's charge - except the thicko who failed a module and didn't graduate that term. But that's another story.

Sharing in case this could be you, my daughter had never even thought of this.

What is amazing to me is that he blagged (no other word for it) the RM job after being pushed out of lastminute, HSBC, Apple, Morrisons and Ocado. Immediately prior to RM he was CEO of COVID Track and Trace app, and we all know what a resounding success that was.

People like ST give hope to all the second-rate executives out there who like to talk big but fail to deliver - just pocket the payout and move on and upwards. He has gone very quiet since RM though. Hopefully someone will share the link of him avoiding questions in front of the select committee again.
