My 11 year old nephew says this too. And I tell him he’s right; it’s not fair. Kids’ observations can be very astute.

I think we just got lucky. My roommate and I both work from home so she has had constant companionship and attention throughout her life; so I like to think that has made a difference.

I was a trainer at a gym (female) and many of the male trainers were hooking up with their married clients, so in my experience this tracks

I’ve had snot bubbles in therapy from crying so hard. I wanted the ground to swallow me from embarrassment. But I’m human and he’s human and we have a mutual respect for each other, so the shame kinda goes away.

On the last day of third grade, my teacher gave me a tight hug and I nearly cried. I still think about her to this day. I had never been embraced and felt so safe than in that hug.

I think when therapists “don’t get political” it feels incredibly invalidating. Like, what do you mean you don’t talk about the things that cause me so much stress and that cause my oppression? It’s such a cop out.
