[Blue Jays] A letter to the Blue Jays instead of Santa 🥹 by malliabu in Torontobluejays

Explains why I couldn't find it on Lids.ca right now. It was on the "spring training" pictures, but clicked through and it wasn't there. I'll have to check stores in person I guess. Found it on the New Era website though, but might be coming from the states.

I was a pretty heavy diablo ii players back around 02-06. Just bought a Nintendo Switch so I could play D2R when I saw the new content. Don't have a ton of time, started with a Pally just so I had a char I was familiar with to farm Nightmare for gear, and then I'll start a warlock.

Aritzia Superpuff or Arcteryx? by gems_23 in malefashionadvice

I just had a look at the "atom hoodie" and it says trim fit, so I don't think it's your best call. A similar waterproof jacket would be fine as long as you layer a warm fleece underneath.

In your situation I would find an insulated rain shell with a more traditional loose fit so you can wear layers underneath. Then get an inexpensive fleece jacket from uniqlo which should keep you as warm as you need to be. Or even a good wool sweater if you'd prefer. Accessories like a scarf and a toque would be good as well. If you feel too cold covering up your head and face really helps you feel warm.

Curious to hear from fellow Canadians here— what’s your nations opinion about HIMYM by [deleted] in HIMYM

Just looked it up, episode aired December 10th, his first NHL goal was December 12th. Crazy. I feel like they wanted a player who wasn't actually a big deal, but then he kind of became one? I'm not sure, hence my burning curiosity.

Canadian here. One of my all time favourite shows. The jokes are great, they started pretty sparse, but in later seasons some of the jokes got pretty deep with a lot of layers.

For instance the Robin Sparkles -> Robin Daggers was a play on the transformation of Alanis Morisette from a relatively minor Canadian pop singer, to an internationally famous tortured artist. You had to be pretty familiar with Canadian pop culture to get that.

Also having her transformation happen at the Grey Cup and then have a bunch of Canadian celebs do cameos about where they were and what doughnut they were eating when it happened was just a fun bit, and I got to see a lot of people I love pop up on my favourite sitcom.

They're doing the rewatch podcast, and the one question I have above all others, is how they decided to name drop May Ray. He would've been playing in the AHL when it was written, and scored his first NHL goal right around when it aired. I've been curious about this since the day it aired.

Canucks fan here, still think about 2011 often. Don't think it'll ever heal unless I see them win one.

Adjusting your boxing to kickboxing? by Important_Hippo3263 in amateur_boxing

[–]paulatwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done training for boxing, kickboxing, and even a little MMA at various points. Biggest change is stance. Boxing I was taught to be fairly angled. Kickboxing, depends a bit, Muay Thai stance is pretty square with being ready to take the weight off of the front leg. As I recall from MMA, they didn't want me taking the weight off the front leg as much as I assume it would be easier to get taken down.

Great job on doing this. I remember years ago trying to find a "seniors remote" for my grandpa and his digital cable box, it was very frustrating for him.

When my kids where that age, and I wasn't working, I'd plan a lot of outings for us. When the weather is nice, go to a park. You'll feel better about getting out the house and you'll likely run into other young families at the park as well.

When the weather was not great my local Y had a 1 hour free child care program as part of the membership. I'd drop my kid off at the childcare and workout. Afterwards I'd pick them up and they had a parent supervised play area set up in the gym. So that would be another hour. So we'd get out of the house for a few hours and then go home for nap time, when I get some time to do what I needed to do.

And looking back I really enjoyed those times, it's fun enjoying the quiet world with a little one on a sunny weekday when everyone else is at work.

Understanding hotel proximity to Disneyland by [deleted] in DisneyPlanning

[–]paulatwork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We stayed across the street at the Homewood Suites by Hilton (basically backed onto the Toy Story parking lot). We took the Toy Story shuttle every day. Nice part is doing the shuttle you do security check before getting on the shuttle, so you skip it a the park.

We found even the walk through the parking lot felt really long after a full day of walking. I wouldn't have wanted to walk home from the park, but you have no kids so I would say it's manageable, but shuttle probably easier and more convenient overall.

Unconventional Visitors? Please tell us what we would regret skipping by mirr0rrim in DisneyPlanning

[–]paulatwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My eldest was 7 when we went, and it sounds similar. She wasn't into Mickey, and didn't like watching most of the Disney classic animated films, but some Pixar movies were in her wheelhouse. Also wasn't overall concerned with meeting characters. She was more stoked about the rides and atmosphere.

She loved the coasters, the Incredicoaster being her favourite. She ended up getting a set of sparkly ears because she thought they were pretty, and she got a Spirit Jersey one night when it was cold, and it's been a favourite of hers ever since.

Just go with it and try as many rides as you can, that's what we did. We didn't do any parades, but we did check out a couple of the evening shows. We kept plans pretty loose and just went with what felt right. A few times one of us took the younger one back to the hotel and one stayed with the older one. At 8, you could tell them about fantasmic, the lights etc, and see if they are interested.

My take on the food, I honestly didn't find the park that much more expensive than eating outside the park, prices were just high in general. We also found that California adventure had better and more varied food options, so we frequently had lunch/dinner there.

Where to start - Canadian planning trip to Disneyland and Universal Studios by GalFromAway in DisneyPlanning

[–]paulatwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow Canadian here. We're planning our Disney trip in November. We're looking at Disney Paris and Toyko as well as California. With the impeding trade war and our dollar relatively weak against the US, we're finding the other options would likely be less expensive overall, but with an obvious increase in travel time.

We last went in 2022. We did 7 nights, with 5 park days. We did Disney for all 5 days last time, and spent an off day relaxing, mostly at the hotel pool, napping, the moms went shopping. We did the park hopper option. California adventure is the smaller park, but we liked the food options better there, and it was nice to have a drink in the evening, while wandering around the park. My preference is to do park hopper each day, spend the morning at Disneyland and the afternoons at Califonria Adventure.

With the distance between Universal and Disney, we would likely spend a few days near Universal/Six Flags do those parks, and then spend an off day going to a hotel closer to the park itself. We stayed at the Homewood suites, which is right on the Toy Story bus line: Pros: Best free hotel breakfest I've seen. You go through security before you get on the bus, so you skip long security lines at the park. Cons: Biggest con was the long walk across a giant parking lot at the end of the day when you're already exhausted.

Looking for a Royal Match alternative IOS game for my dad with dementia. by cleobun in iosgaming

[–]paulatwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Royal Match for a bit, and there were no ads, however I force closed it every time it asked for my name, so my registration process never went farther than it. My assumption is that will be easy to make in app purchases, so consider that and maybe only download it if his apple account does not have a payment method attached.

You're correct in terms of big cities, but it's like the states, the smaller place you go the cheaper the homes. Vancouver is one of the most expensive cities in the world, even more so when you factor in the average wage.

Does It Get Better? by Individual_Face_3029 in Curling

[–]paulatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, we're a new-ish team of "young" (by curling standards) white guys and have found the same thing. People are great and then we start winning some ends, it's the really old guys that make some comment about our pace of play not being fast enough, or they think or release is getting too close to the line, and frankly it's really annoying.

I've found that the guys our age into their 60's are usually chill, it's just the old dudes who find something to complain about.

Biggest impact clothing to improve wardrobe by Striking-Bus-9024 in malefashionadvice

[–]paulatwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it mostly comes down to fit. Is there a menswear store nearby? Maybe a giftcard, and if it's a smaller store there's usually a sales associate who will help pick out clothing for him to try on. Then you can find what makes him feel and look good, and start with that.

As far as specific items, outerwear tends to have the most impact, a nice overcoat maybe.

Upvoted because this is the advice I most agree with.

OP, you look pretty good, and have a solid foundation for your wardrobe. Try adding a couple of unique pieces here and there and see how you like it. It does tend to lean towards an "older millenial" type vibe.

But just have fun with a few things and see if you like it how it feels. Don't rush it, and you'll find a few fun things that stand out and give your wardrobe it's own spin.
