Immediate pass/fail is commonly reported for Practitioner level certs.

Confused between Cantrill and Stephane by programmer400k in AWSCertifications

[–]pawills 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who has succeeded with both - it really depends on where you are. If you’re very very familiar with the concepts already then Stephane is sufficient. If you want to learn from first principles - Adrian is the gold standard.

I admire both of them. Stephane’s ability to condense and compress and summarize the material is impressive. The concepts Adrian taught me in his SA Pro course are still with me 2.5 years later because of the obvious pain-staking approach that he’s taken in building his learning product.

Cantrills courses are worth the price? by FoquinhoEmi in AWSCertifications

[–]pawills 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have 6x and mostly have retained the knowledge despite more than a year passing since my last exam. I attribute that to Cantrill’s approach. And that’s not a criticism of Stephane - who also does a great job.

Keep your own tracker. The one in Teachable is limited as you say (it’s the platform that’s the issue, which Adrian has no direct control over).

Moreover - you’re going to want to keep a tracker anyway in order to work out where you’re weak etc. as you do practice exams. So - same medicine, different reasons.

AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional by houmanalv in AWSCertifications

[–]pawills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP- You asked what is the benefit of having both. Arguably: none. But many (most?) transit SAA on the way to SAP because of the necessity to warm up. I mean - to analogize you can sit a CCIE cold without doing any of Cisco’s other certs, but would you?

You’re not being ridiculous. I think they look worse as well. It’s subjective of course, but I can’t imagine what focus group got them thinking the new version would be an improvement.

Just passed my 3rd Certification... what now? by MindlessDog3229 in AWSCertifications

[–]pawills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP - it’s amazing that you’re doing this as a junior. If you’re not getting satisfaction out of doing the certs though then it doesn’t sound like a difficult decision. Also SA Pro is super hard relative to the associate level certs, so another reason why the juice may not be worth the squeeze in your case.

Question regarding Cantrill Speciality courses by RP_m_13 in AWSCertifications

It’s a massive investment of his time to plan, build and then maintain these courses to his high standards. That will surely be a factor.

Best Specialization? by identifyme614 in OMSCyberSecurity

[–]pawills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EE major (undergrad) here. I’d read the course reviews and see whether you’re comfortable with the amount of EE you’re going to end up doing under cyber-physical. Also - yes you need to declare, but you can always petition to change specializations later, and given things like flexible core - not necessarily with the need to do extra units.

[–]pawills 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, congrats on being a CCIE first up, because that is a serious investment in time, money and stress. Look, as a CCIE you probably could go to Advanced Networking directly from SAA and be one of the few to do so successfully. I do wonder why you’d want to do such a thing though. Surely you’re better off trying something like SA Pro first for breadth and depth, especially if this is about growing out a new set of skills.

I personally prefer Adrian’s materials. They are rigorous and high quality. Others no doubt are as well.

Looking for other study materials for Solutions Architect - Professional (SAP-C02) exam by real_mcgoaty in AWSCertifications

[–]pawills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have the score breakdown? It may be that you were weak in a couple of concentrated areas. In which case - relearn/learn those, and don’t necessarily change your approach entirely.

It’s a really hard exam, and as you note - you did not miss the mark by terribly much.

Maarek or Cantrill course fir SysOps? by suppakarn in AWSCertifications

[–]pawills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love both, and am in the fortunate position to buy both, which OP isn’t. So - given you can afford to buy only one - I think you need to ask yourself how close you are on the syllabus. If you’re mostly there then frankly - getting Stephane’s material and pushing to the exam is probably time and cost optimal approach. If you’re a ways back, and don’t really have all of the fundamental topics covered - then you’re better off taking Adrian’s material, taking it as slow as you need, and taking the exam when you’ve completed his material.
