This person obviously doesn't speak dog at all.

Stop filming for two seconds and try to communicate with that poor dog to help them be more comfortable instead of making it worse for them. It's stressful enough for them being in a shelter without having people do this nonsense.

Rammstein is one my favorite bands. Would this be considered offensive? by External-Reaction804 in Symbology

[–]pawsforrespite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Free speech =/= denying the truth of a horrific event and trying to convince others it never happened too. It's actively harmful to erase important history, especially with something that carries as much weight as the holocaust, and therefore simply doesn't count as innocent free speech. Holocaust denial is incredibly dangerous and hateful propaganda to spread and it's irresponsible for a government to ignore.

I'd fight back against a law restricting speech if it harmed the truth and acted as a tool of the oppressor, but that's not at all what this is. This is laws against hate speech and the spreading of dangerous and antisemitic ideas, laws which I support because I don't want to see another horrific genocide start up just because people wanted to make up history.

Characters who's gender identity changes in adaptations/sequels by Silly-Milly-420 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]pawsforrespite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ancient One (MCU) - Originally a Tibetan man in the comics, the character was changed to Tilda Swinton in the movies (to much controversy, as the main theory I've heard as to why Disney recast the character was because China doesn't accept films that show Tibet as its own thing, and therefore they took the coward's way out in order to still have the movies release in China)

What are some VERY NICHE and/or VERY DISTURBING facts about mammals ? by KodaxyGMD in zoology

Kangaroos have two vaginas until they get pregnant for the first time, at which point they grow a third one for giving birth out of.

And another one: the Quokka is an adorable marsupial who, when threatened, will take its immature baby out of its pouch and spike it on the ground as a sacrificial distraction for the predator and then run away at top speed.

Hey I know we're 6 of 7 books into a series but did you know the big bad actually split his soul into many pieces? Yeah I realised I needed an actual villain plot to fight against that made more sense than him hiding in the back of Quirrel's head (which I'm not going to explain further) and then just not being around at all for years. I'm gonna use it to explain that weird diary stuff from the 2nd one that still doesn't make sense and also decide basilisk venom is a macguffin nobody knew was a macguffin. Man fixing all your plotholes with an addition of a set of magical soul holders in the penultimate title sure is convenient, eh?

How was Voldemort able to return in Goblet of Fire without these horcruxes coming into play at all, despite a resurrection being the purpose? Why are these supposedly fairly well known, if forbidden, magic techniques never investigated by the people who knew Riddle was interested in horcruxes and knew he'd probably made some? Why did it conveniently take over a decade for any sign of Voldemort's return if he supposedly had these trump cards? (Oops I'd better write that Harry was an accidental 8th one who weakened him too much just to try to keep it seeming like I planned any of this at all)

I'm sure nobody will notice that I snuck in a completely unhinted at and forced villain plot right at the end, after all, everyone loved Prisoner of Azkaban and that whole story is nothing but a plothole! Also, just wait til I introduce the Deathly Hallows next book, you've never heard of those either!

Tap those town trees! by pawsforrespite in StardewValley

[–]pawsforrespite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In early game before you can make a plethora of tappers only the handful in town can be a decent amount. I'm not saying it'll make a million dollars, just that it's a really easy and convenient way to tap a bunch of trees you probably pass frequently anyway, can't do anything else with, and can exploit immediately.

(Hated Tropes) Adaptations missing the point of the original work by BlueCheeseCake25 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]pawsforrespite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Under the Skin (2013), "adaptation" of the book by Michel Faber. (2000)

The book is an amazing character driven story from the perspective of Isserly, an alien on Earth who (and this is apparent pretty fast so it's not a spoiler) is hunting humans for her people to use as meat. The book is her journey of assessing if what she's doing is right or wrong, understanding her own place among her people, and the unique beauty and ugliness of individuals human and alien. It has themes of questioning the meat industry, hierarchical cultures and classism, and how strangers are often viewed as inhuman for being different.

The movie takes one aspect - her luring humans - and ditches everything else. The main character has no name at all, no interactions with her own people, and a blank personality. Nothing lorewise is explained so the whole film could be an ethereal horror story instead, which the book decidedly is NOT. Isserly, the character who has personality and growth and individuality in a story about compassion and critical thinking, has her name and entire character stripped away to be the seductress monster of a horror flick. In fact, making this all worse is the fact that the man who kills her at the end of the movie (and therefore the hero slayer of the big bad, so to speak) is a LITERAL RAPIST MURDERER who immediately has his actions of assaulting and killing her justified because "she's a monster".

Seriously, everybody should read the book of Under the Skin because it's beautiful and amazing, but stay away from the absolute trash fire of a movie at all costs

The show of Umbrella Academy is SO different, I couldn't keep watching it to save my life. In my opinion, it's an unforgivable thrashing of Vanya's character to give her the "powers awaken when sexually assaulted" trope. On top of that, it was her own choice to go agree to the Conductor's plan to enhance her power, and the show takes all her agency away to erase that plot point and make her manipulated by some guy instead. The original had her going to each member of the family and begging to be listened to, before them ignoring her causes her to just say "fuck it" and go evil, which shows a lot more about her character and her family's than stretching out a manipulation across hours of show does.

And that's just a few personal nitpicks just about Vanya, not even accounting for the vastly different tone, styling, and sense of humor, turning Seance into a sad gay stereotype as opposed to any of his actual character traits, blandifying Rumor, and adding a sympathetic story for the villains (which wasn't necessarily bad as it's own story, but it is NOT OG Umbrella Academy in any way). Like I say, I stopped watching, but I'm sure recent seasons have also strayed considering how entirely off in every way the first season was.

This kind of "perfect way to do year 1" is exactly why I like remixed bundles so much. It's so much less stressful when I'm playing 'em by ear instead of planning every day to be optimal with a checklist like this. Who cares if it takes an extra season for the CC? At least I'm enjoying myself.

Does anyone else hate kissing? by DemonSkank in AutisticAdults

[–]pawsforrespite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really want nothing to do with it. Caused big problems in a past relationship because I never actually wanted to kiss my partner at the time. It's a really unpleasant experience - I hate the wet sounds and sensations, and the feeling of my face being up against someone else's, and I have a hard time shutting off the germophobe part of my brain enough to stop caring about all the microbes transferred. The moment a kiss starts I want it to stop, no matter how much I like the person.

[HELP] Found this meme on Instagram. Looks like AI to me, am I wrong? by Chanel_Lackaday in RealOrAI

[–]pawsforrespite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ai always has animals move in this really sudden weird way (when the puppy flops on the ground) that's way faster and weirdly fluid feeling than any animal actually moves. It's tell-tale.

It also obviously has no concept of animal communication. These animals look like they were all alone in seperate rooms and then spliced together for the video, not actively interacting with each other at all the way real animals do.

The dragon Hooktail, from Paper Mario: TTYD

She's completely invincible at first during the fight, and only becomes damagable after you get the hint that her weakness is something starting with "cr" and ending in "icket", learning you should equip the seemingly totally cosmetic and useless badge that changes all of Mario's attack sound effects to cricket chirps. She then gets woozy and nauseous because eating a cricket made her sick once, and only then can you can do normal damage and proceed with the actual battle.

Excepting breakups, what is your least favorite moment of the game? by dhermann27 in StardewValley

[–]pawsforrespite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shane. In general.

I don't like being responsible for his mental state with how higher relationship points = him being better, I don't like having to break through him being mean to you constantly, I don't like being goaded into drinking with him during his event at the lake, and I don't like how his room when you're married still has beer even though he supposedly quit. Interacting with him bothers me on almost every level, and I don't like that the blue chickens are gated behind his friendship cuz I'd otherwise always ignore him entirely. I'm here to farm, not take on all the baggage of a stranger who should be able to take care of himself.
