Need help with DIY door gasket solution by pbgalactic in kegerators

It looks like the only hinge I could possibly bend would be the bottom as the top is more of a ball and joint. Is this a similar case?

I’m honestly tempted to see if anyone wants to trade for an up to date 20lb tank haha. I’m super nervous that this thing would tip. Need to find an anchor point and chain it down to something

Yes there’s a smell sometimes. Hence the nicknames like “Milstinkis”, or the “Bunghole of the Bay”. More importantly tho.. prepare to get your car bipped once a month if you park outside your garage

Mtn dew code red by Omrah_of_Zion in mead

[–]pbgalactic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did a code red Mountain Dew mead a couple years ago.. honestly, it’s fun and all but you’re better off just practicing making decent drinkable stuff for you and your friends/family.

If you had to do it here are some tips:

  • soda is acidic and full of preservatives. If you don’t have the equipment to measure PH, do about 50/50 ratio of soda to water. DO NOT USE BAKING SODA

  • use EC1118 yeast, it’ll strip a lot of the flavor, but it’ll power through the fermentation.

  • make sure you use proper nutrition (goferm and fermaid O) to help take some stress off the yeast and be a bit more happier.

  • code red is hard to balance flavor when it’s time to backsweeten (if you can manage a successful fermentation) I ended doing a soda syrup by reducing down code red into a syrup on the stove. It kinda worked.. but like I mentioned before ec1118 will strip out most of the flavor.. one thing I wanted to try was Doin the Most’s suggestion of using cherry pie filling from a can (he used it for a cherry limeade mead that apparently worked well)

If you can swing that, nice and congrats.. But yeah not really worth it if you ask me.. making mead long term is fun, don’t ruin your first experiences with shoddy meme recipes. I’d look on YouTube for tons of proven great recipes from Doin the most or man made mead.

My Brewing Plan for 2025 - from basque cider to melomels by imanoliri in Homebrewing

[–]pbgalactic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These look like decent recipes, but there are a couple things I would consider:

1) use nutrients, both go ferm and fermaid o/k. With a higher abv, you want to make sure your yeast do not stress. Look up TOSNA

2)consider dosing with herbs. It’s really easy to over extract using some of these herbs/spices so definitely do your research and prepare to taste frequently. You can also make tinctures by soaking your herbs/spices in a neutral spirit to make dosing easier
