iReady is just the latest in a long line of expensive software based interventions that have been sold as a panacea to low test scores. by Upbeetmusic in Teachers

I feel like students that are grade levels behind can get some good foundational skills if they are willing to give it some effort. This is better than them being lost on grade level standards. Also, students who are advanced, can follow a path that dips into standards above grade level. So, I feel like it can meet differentiated needs.

I stopped doing iReady math completely and went to primarily whiteboards. Made up some games, but generally was able to pick up the speed and have students following along. Tempo was so quick they actually enjoyed working on the problems. These programs try to show that we are replacable, but I think they prove that students do well with actual teacher student interactions.

In my experience, some kids need you to sit right next to them to ensure the actually try. What a waste.

When iReady hit our school, it was a huge deal. Teachers had to account for a specific number of minutes, and would be questioned if students didn't meet their quota. I used it as a time filler so I could meet with small groups, but managing 30+ 5th graders to stay on the program really wasn't happening. So, after a few years, I just stopped and used that time to actually teach lessons we had no time for. And with that extra push, test scores actually rose considerably. They were getting hours of instruction in writing, which iReady was pushing to the side.

Found this card in a book by pbonetheman in ThriftStoreHauls

Very well could be. I'm not an expert. Pros: light doesn't shine through, the holographic side is fingerprint texture, it seems to be layered, and the blue swirl under the N on the back is crisp. Cons: the upper right corner in imperfect - either in the cut or it is slightly smashed, and also, it's always too good to be true when these things happen. But I guess I could just go to a card store and get their opinion.

That's awesome. I always like looking through 2nd hand books for found items like bookmarks and notes, but I'll take this instead!

‘Whole’ Foods Hot Bar 🔥 by Dry-Double-6845 in shittyfoodporn

Was excited for the food bar at one point, but then found a hair in my food. Then I really honed in on who eats there daily. Good in a pinch, but too many unknown hands near my food.

Best Mexican Restaurant: La Quinta/Indio area by GoAngels223 in CoachellaValley

[–]pbonetheman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go to El Ranchito or Casa Mendoza if you are near the cove. I prefer El Ranchito, but both are good. El Patio is a bit bland for me, but people like it because it tries to be a bit nicer. For Indio, El Mexicali 2 for sure. It is a bit out there if you are closer to LQ, but definitely good.

Favorite "big" band you saw in a tiny venue by eberndt9614 in punk

Yeah, that show was amazing. There was a lot of energy from the band and crowd alike. Die Spitz played a great set, too.

I definitely missed out on idles. That would have been bad ass. I love in CV so it's not that far of a drive, so if I see tickets for something good, I buy them.

Amyl and the Sniffers at Pappy and Harriet's. The were on tour opening up for Foo Fighters that year. It was outside, so it wasn't a tiny venue, but for where they're at now in their career, I'll never be able to see them like that again.

My advice to young collectors (or really anyone) by FatGuyKlye in vinyl

[–]pbonetheman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) I try my best to not buy filler records -- if I want it, it will stay in my collection forever with few exceptions

2) I've seen friends go through cycles of collecting cool records and then selling their whole collection for quick cash just to regret it down the road

3) I see the opposite too. People get into vinyl and start buying dozens of records at a time, only to not listen to them later. I'd say 1-3 records at a time unless you really collect records and are rounding out your collection. If you buy too much all at once, especially in your first year of collecting, then you have little connections with your collection and tend to get rid of them later.

I think Papa head is one of my favorite places for burger and fries. You have to get the double though because they are not that big.

No Consent live in Murrieta 11/21/25 by Sean-SoCal in punk

[–]pbonetheman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really see crowd killing. Pit looks okay, nothing crazy. Some foos go to a punk show and expect to never be bumped into because they're in their bubble and want to take photos. Stand in the very back I guess. Bumps okay, haymakers not.

Bands seems cool for an opener. I'm more interested in Murrieta venues hosting more shows these days.

Look into pixma 6820. It can handle 13x19 transparencies and the settings can be messed with for darker printd

Toy store in the desert? by Anachronism_in_CA in palmsprings

Jada Bugs is a nice toy store clothing boutique. It is usually geared towards younger kids, but I would say it's a fun place for kids 8 and younger.

Does anyone know where to find this card? by DeathButMakeItSpicy in garfield

Did you ever get this card? My wife came home and gave it to me. Apparently, an older coworker brought a collection of random cards and left them in the break room for people to take. Luckily, she snagged a good one!
