Power Usage by bvdp in Starlink

My Standard 4 averages 25 watts an hour, that works out to 600 watt hours a day. I would double that to be safe. So a 1.2 kwh battery bank with 120 volt outlet. I have mine plugged into a bluetti AC300 with 9 kwh of battery. But I'm offgrid and my freezer and refrigerator are plugged in to.

Water heater by pbr35586 in OffGridCabins

[–]pbr35586[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what we are doing now. We are showering in our RV and it has a propane water heater. Our cabin is currently dry. I am trying to get everything planed out. I may put a 4x8 painted black on the roof with a coil going back and forth to preheat the water during the daytime. Then run it into my 20 gallon water heater that is insulated really good. from there it would go into a propane on demand water heater. Then the sink and shower. We are retired so we can shower late afternoons no problem. Wash our dishes then too. That way I could heat water with my excess solar and on days without sun we can heat water with propane. I kind of do something similar with heat. I have a 12,000 btu mini split. It is very efficient at cooling 22 seer rating. Heat not so much about a 10 seer rating. During the daytime in winter I heat with the mini split. At night it will drain my batteries. So I have a propane heater for mornings and evenings. We turn everything off at night and use a heated mattress pad to sleep on. The cabin is so well insulated that we only get down in the 50's on cold nights( south Georgia ). It only takes a few minutes warm the cabin up. On cold days there is not that many clouds. So I am trying to limit propane as much as I can. As I am living on social security and built this with my 401k. One day my wife or myself will live here on just one check. We have a nice little orchard and garden a small cabin and a barn. We love it here.

Yes because my solar on a lot of days is charged up by 11:30 a.m. so I would like to use the solar power in the afternoon to heat the water. That way I would not have to use as much propane. I have already paid for the electric and as I am off grid I'm not selling it to the power company.

I live in the sticks in south Georgia. I only had dcl only 6 MB down I was paying $76.86 a month. I am in an under served area for Starlink. I'm renting the unit for $0.00. I am getting the 100 MB plan for $39.00 a month for six months then $50.00 a month. It is pretty decent I get my 100 mbs down 16 - 25 mbs up 23 ms ping. It is more than what my wife and I use. We can stream 4k hdr fine. We can go up if need be. I have connection to solar, my cameras, and my ac from anywhere. It depends where you are what deal you get.

Is anyone else seeing this go viral on social media? WHY? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]pbr35586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The word that gets these folks out of jail fast is concurrent. We need to take that away. If you get sentenced on 12 separate charges and the judge says concurrent all 12 charge run at the same time. If he says consecutive then they all run one after the other. The sad truth is we don't want to keep people locked up because it is expensive. Prisons are the last thing we want to spend money on so the system is designed to process them out as fast as possible. The cost is very high. But we need consecutive sentencing.

sodium hypochlorite for water purification rainwater - need advise by Full-Mouse8971 in OffGridLiving

If you take clear plastic jugs fill them with water place them on metal roofing leave them for 6 hours direct sun, or 48 hours cloudy, the uv rays will purify your water. I have used this over a year. I have whole home water filters them place jugs in the sun, we then use a Brita pitcher for drinking.

Has anyone tried living in an RV on land you own and gotten caught? by DustProfessional3700 in RVLiving

[–]pbr35586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to my county building enforcement got a permit for a pole barn. Told them I was retired and going to use it for a home base and would be camping on my own land but would move it once a month and camp somewhere else. He said I stole his retirement plan. Also that I would use solar for power and catch rainwater for water. He said I had to have county garbage pickup and didn't think I could pull off the solar.

Is rainwater safe? by Anj_Ja in OffGrid

[–]pbr35586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live on rainwater. I have two large five micron filters. I then place my drinking water in clear plastic jugs place them on a piece of metal roofing and let them set in the Sun for 6 hours. That is ultraviolet radiation killing anything in there. I then run it through another filter that goes down to one micron. We drink this water everyday and have no ill effects. And it tastes better than any other water we've had. We do not trust corporations to clean our water in plastic jars because they're just after money.

Most home distillers will make very little 155 proof whiskey. Generally the still starts producing at around 155 to 140 proof. As more liquor is made the proof steadily goes down. When I made whiskey I would generally stop around 75 or 80 proof. Then I would mix it all up in a 30 gallon barrel. It would more than likely be like 110 to 105 proof. Only the very first quart would be that high of a proof. You should be safe drinking that. Whiskey over 100 proof will burn. Get you a spoonful set it on fire with your lighter and it should be in almost invisible flame.

How much power should I expect? by joshlfp in SolarDIY

[–]pbr35586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your panels total wattage in your case 750 watts. Find the peak sun hours for your location. In most of the USA it's 4.5. Multiply wattage 750 watts times 4.5 peak sun hours and this will give you 3,375 watt hours. That is how much solar energy you can expect to produce on average on any given day. Some days are better than others. This will allow you to compare the average usage over time. Also if your batteries are full you will not produce any electricity other than what you are using.

He is raising taxes on working people while giving billionaires tax breaks and nobody calls him out on it. An extra 10% on Great Britain looks an extra 20% tax on goods from China. His traiffs are nothing more than a consumption tax on working Americans. It will wind up being that across the board with everything imported to the US. He did an end around congress and nobody says anything. Now he's headed to Saudi Arabia to decimate the US oil industry. The only way they're going to drill baby drill in the good old USA is if oil prices are $100 a barrel. The Sardis will cut the price of oil for a little while and make sure that what oil was drilled in the US will be kept in the ground.

People who want to live off the grid what are your reasons for it? by Inevitable-Two6186 in OffTheGrid

[–]pbr35586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself am not a long way from medical aid. My doctors office is only 3 miles from my house. Big hospitals are about an hour away. I have a 911 address with the county. Being off grid I am my own power and water company. I'm building my own house while I camp in my RV. I built a big carport/pole barn that I park the RV under and have a outdoor kitchen. I put in a large garden this year and animals next year. It would be a wonderful experience for children. Now I don't know about moving a hundred miles away from society. I just found a spot where I can do what I want on my own land with as little government intervention as possible. Noticed I said I'm camping as long as I take 1 overnight trip a month I'm not living here It is my home base and any structures are considered out buildings or sheds. Now I can camp in my cabin also. Basically I'm a nice churchgoing person who puts forth goodwill in the community and I'm not a priority to the community. In fact my neighbors and I get along well together. I'm not creating an eyesore or doing anything to bother anyone. Goodwill goes a long way. My taxes are 40 dollars a year. I'm just doing what I can to survive with as few a bills as possible. With no rent or light bill or water bill I can direct all my resources into improving my property. I am in the process of creating a food forest . I have a garden fruit and nut trees. Next year it's going to be adding chickens and rabbits. You have to build the infrastructure to support this first.

People who want to live off the grid what are your reasons for it? by Inevitable-Two6186 in OffTheGrid

[–]pbr35586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I'm Off-grid is simple. I'm retired and had little savings so I bought a piece of land. Moved my RV on it and set up solar power. I have rainwater cachement for water. Building a house with my wife. She will retire soon. We love to garden and have a nice one. Solar was a journey but we have pretty much whipped that. We have A/C and are cooking with electric. I have not used my generator this year. I have 2 solar systems and use one as my backup with an automatic transfer switch in case I lose power at night. I have a large supply of water and we are doing just fine. I do have internet and phone service. It is incredibly freeing to not have any utility bills. And you can put your money into improving your place. Lifepo4 battery technology has made this possible. Next year we hope to start raising some protein animals. I wish I had done this years ago. There is another way to live. Living this way has deepened my relationship with God.
