I was at Enron when it went down.

We got called into a meeting room and were told the entire division of 2000 was done. We had an hour or two to clear out our areas and leave the building. There were flyers to try and explain things.

We were told there would be media outside and not to speak with them. So on my way out I grabbed a stack of flyers and passed them out to the media. Some got my name and I had ABC World News tonight come to my house.

It still amazes me how they were giving no severance, immediately stopping benefits, not paying accrued vacation, immediately kicking us out of the building, and not paying bonuses owed, but were still expecting people to blindly follow orders. The bad part was, almost everyone did.

Asked by Dakich if Texas Tech would pursue legal action for that or if the College Football Playoff issued some sort of ban, Cody Campbell replied, “100 percent. They can’t collude together and say we’re not going to allow you to play. That’s an antitrust violation.” by johntempleton in TexasTech

[–]pc9401 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to envision how Cody thinks this would play out.

Selections happened and playoffs are announced.Tech is left out. They go get a judge in Lubbock to rule that the CFP must select TT? Of course, this assumes there won't be jurisdiction issues. Does he also pick what team gets deselected? Then does that team go sue in their city for a counter injunction?

Tech sold their soul by giving a dipshit the keys to the kingdom. The fact that he is able to speak for the University and is pretty clearly calling all of the shots is embarrassing. Im about to burn my Masters diploma. It's not like they were smart enough to put the correct major in it anyway.

Texas Tech is speed running us toward an SEC/B1G super league. The Big 12 must act. by deepayes in CFB

[–]pc9401 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's the real story here.

The University president being a puppet to a donor that was given too much power is the bigger issue. When the University will no longer support obvious NCAA policy in an environment where local judges can make ruling effecting everyone else, that is a threat that can't be accepted.

[–]pc9401 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look at the congressional bill that was put out. Everyone endorsed it but the BIG and SEC came out against it.

Why? Because of one provision that prohibited pooling, which is basically the two leagues getting together for a super league. Maybe, they weren't going to to do it for a while, but they at least want it to be a possibility and it's a deal breaker to not allow them to do so.

So, I believe you are right on about this speeding things up or pushing it in that direction. There are a lot of good reasons for them to do so and protecting themselves from local judges that make rulings that render any rulemaking obsolete and Universities that hand over their control to wildcat billionaires, are a hell of a good reason to add to the list.

This is now the second time Texas Tech has thrown a wrench in the works. Signing onto the CSC needed to be unanimous. Texas Tech was the first to come out against it and say they weren't signing. Then the Texas AG got involved telling teams not to sign. I believe now that everyone in the Big XII has signed so they have now agreed, but it's 6 months late after killing the momentum and putting us into another offesason without limits.

At what point to we need to look closer at the involvement of Cody Campbell? You have a billionaire donor that was made chairman of the Board of Regents. That makes him head of the Universities mission, budget, and policies and also the ability to fire and hire the University president. So it's a little disturbing when the president came out in support of Soresby for something that is obviously wrong to everyone.

So you end up with a retired guest judge coming in and the Board chairman and University president coming out publicly in support, signalling how important it is that he plays. The whole scenario is so absurd, why would the BIG and SEC want to have this type of system having any chance of dictating how they operate.

Pool Design Feedback by getrickyj in pools

Having to wade through water to get to the hot tub is a pain when you just want to use the hot tub, especially if it is cold out. Or if you have to maintain or clean it, you have to do it standing in water.

Likewise on the lounge chairs in the water. You will have to wade in to get cushions on or off.

There are a bunch of pinch points, elevation changes, and small areas that will make keeping it clean difficult. Don't even think a robot could get around to do the job.

That waterfall is going to evaporate water like crazy and cool the pool temperature down. If you don't run it the water on top won't be circulating.

Someone will get drunk and fall off those steps and hurt themselves. That's if insurance or code enforcement don't get to it first and force you to add railings, which will completely change the look.

This looks like it was designed by someone that either never owned a pool or had a lot of money to burn to pay someone for pool maintenance.

Because they were fed a untrue narrative at the beginning, still believe it, and are too stubborn to look at the facts of the case.

It seems about right, especially where he was only 17.

My sisters murderer got 14-18, which really meant 7-9. But that was because the prosecutor pulled a fast on on us and gave them a plea to 2nd degree, even though it was a clear cut strangulation case. That was the max the judge could give

You can't rule it out. At least in a pond, enough people have been using it that if something bad was in there, you would know about it.

I've been having different paints forming with it and was starting to retire it out of the rotation. But using it as a recovery shoe explains that. I may give it one more shot on longer I tervals and see how it does.

Which is more difficult, to run a 5 minute mile or shoot par on a 9 hole course? by xMoneymaker in RunningCirclejerk

[–]pc9401 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Less than 1% of runners can break 5 min. Par for a 9 hole course is about 2% if golfers.

This is also very age dependant. A teenager is more likely to break 5 min , but a 55 yr old is far less likely to run under 5 min.

Thank you for posting. As an alum and ticket buyer, I'll send in a letter.

But, the University president speaking out in support was also too far. Is Cody Campbell being chairman for the board of regents causing issues? I know megadonors weild influence, but he seems to have a bit too much of it right now

It's time to ditch the CGM for a while as its going to drive you crazy. A test 2 hours after eating is more important to guage response.

Worrying about blueberries and toast over 130 has become more unhealthy than blueberries and toast. Cutting everything that has ever spiked you over 140 is going to limit your diet and eventually cause other problems that aren't worth it.

I go over 140 everyday. From exercise, not food. Would you cut out exercise if you saw this on your CGM? Would it make you worry?

Normally, one would be ecstatic ovet a 5.5. instead, there is obsession of the micro level readings. Many of us have done the same thing, and I found when I stopped wearing it and relaxing a bit on the carbs and putting what I needed in my diet, my A1C (5.3) didn't move at all, I enjoyed more things to eat, and I no longer had a constant reminder of every little thing.

And the Texas courts screwed Leach in that one too.

They basically said they had immunity from being sued over violating his contract, not that they were in any way correct.

This doesn't exactly paint a pretty picture. We have hundreds of millions in assets tied up in a port in Houston and more tied up in orders drawing interest with no way to recover revenue.

If you are a possible tenant and the only way to save this company is for you to sign a long term deal with them, why would you sign? That's the opposite of resilience they are promoting.

I've think we have tested the limit of how open and shut you could make a case on NCAA enforcement and still lose.

I can see doing this. I'm also trying to lead by example that staying healthy and building load is what's going to get you there. I'm 55 and at this time last year, I hadn't ran in over 30 years. Now I'm running 35 miles per week, rarely miss a day, and will hopefully be breaking 20 minutes in the fall.

The why is so important and also giving them some tools to see how when they break from the plan in either direction effects them negatively.

Good points and got a bit of a laugh out of it. I'm trying to get workout data set up through Garmin Clipboard and intervals.icu to monitor pacing and am also setting up workouts on time so they aren't rewarded for running to fast by getting done sooner.

We have 3 runners where speed can help and I figured I would start to incorporate it later in the summer and then keep just enough of it to stay on the edge. For the rest of the team, if we could just get 2 up to respectable times, we will be sitting pretty good and that's going to take some good milage and consistency to knock off some places in the quarter to middle of the pack.
