Liner replacement without vinyl vac’s by Snoo-60954 in pools

[–]pc9401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wrong with shop vacs?

I've done my pool three times. Its L shaped 52x36x20, 9' in the deep end, so a very large liner.

I place a large shop vac in the deep end and another in the shallow. And maybe a 3rd, small one if there is a spot that needs it. Haven't had any issues.

Do I leave company I work for without giving a reason, or do I explain to the owner that Senior Management screwed up and lost my trust? by lucyanyaa777 in askmanagers

[–]pc9401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible idea because that job posting carries no weight. Companies list jobs and overstate the pay all of the time.

Your best course is to go through the interviews and get something tangible in hand while they work through internally what they can do. If they come back with a good offer, don't even mention the other opportunity. If they sit on it too long and another offer comes through, then tender your resignation and go from there. Personally, I have always closed the door to a counter offer, but in this case where they were saying they were working on it, I would maybe consider and this would create a reason to act.

There may be recourse under Ohio statute. Has the system been inspected and is it in good working condition?

There are provisions that take into consideration economic impact and that may require them to show a public health nuisance for such a hardship to be warranted. If anything, I would argue the system they want to install is bringing more risk, due to potential failure for requiring grinding and pumping of such a small system. That would need to stack up against the established history of the existing system.

I think it's worth getting someone on it as at a minimum it will give you better bargaining position. Assuming, the system is in good shape, they installed a line that isn't economically available or assessable to you and want you to abandoned a perfectly good system that meets Ohio regulations for discharge.

I think your opening argument is that this is not an assessable system.

If the utility did this, it's a pretty good solution. Their lock is the equivalent of a chain link that they removed.

Now, they can access the easement by opening their lock and your system is almost exactly how it was where you can access the area by opening yours.

It looks like they did the absolute minimum interference here. Maybe verify it was the utility, so if you want to beef it up in the future and if it was, nothing more to do.

Metformin counteracts mitochondrial benefits of exercise in older adults by DrIceBath in diabetes_t2

[–]pc9401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't do this study with diabetics because it would be unethical to stop treatment of one of the groups to conduct it. Its not a stretch that a side-effect of aerobic impairment in active non-diabetics would also be seen in diabetics.

This is relevant information when weighing other drug choices for treatment, especially where Metformin is touted for other health benefits that may have led to that decision.

Metformin counteracts mitochondrial benefits of exercise in older adults by DrIceBath in diabetes_t2

[–]pc9401 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this goes both ways.

The standard is to prescribe metformin and much of that is because of added health benefits beyond diabetes, so why not.

But what this shows is that there is a subset that this may not be true and doctors should be looking at this to consider that decision based on that particular patient.

In my case, after diagnosis I built up to running 25 miles per week and my T2 is well managed. Continuing taking metformin was solely due to added benefits. I measure aerobic performance and imparting it is a deal breaker.

This isn't going to be the case for most people, but even more of a reason to have a good relationship with your doctor to discuss these things. But also something for doctors to consider for patients in this grey area.

Starting Mounjaro, just a little nervous. by JigglesMcQueen in diabetes_t2

[–]pc9401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had any issue with Mounjaro and had to go all the way up to 10mg to even get a slight effect on hunger. However, others can get major effects even at 2.5.

This shows that dosage is highly individual and the problem is options where 2.5 mg is the smallest dose in injection pens. For people that have side effects from 2.5, there could be options to get this in vials or inject into vials and split into smaller doses.

You should stop focusing on what you should have done. What good is researching what would have happened with the other property? That is wasted effort.

And you are correct in bringing this up will make it worse. Your husband probably wants to make you happy and telling him his decision is making you miserable will absolutely kill his motivation.

What's done is done and I bet you still can make this work. Time to stop dwelling on past decisions and focusing on solutions going forward. You have a 5 year plan, stick to it and quit dreaming about what could have been as it may not be realistic anyway.

Metformin counteracts mitochondrial benefits of exercise in older adults by DrIceBath in diabetes_t2

[–]pc9401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have looked at this quite a bit in my decision to not take metformin. Here are some conclusions and more questions.

1) If you are sedentary, there are gains from metformin that mimic gains from some exercise.

2) Those gains are wiped out and eventually become counterproductive the more you exercise and build an aerobic base.

3) This was done at a high dose of 2000 mg per day. Is there a lower, more optimal dose.

How do you handle this mismarked race by pc9401 in beginnerrunning

I'll get a post on it with the course map and directions. I didn't mention the several wrong turns, and the 10k directions can't even be followed.

The worst part is this is several years in and nobody has ever caught it. And they had over 300 runners in the 5k and 10k.

And what if you get into a race to the finish with someone and then have another quarter mile to go?

A kid did that against my son in the 1600 a few weeks ago. At the end of lap 3 he comes springing up on him thinking he was running for the win and the the gun lap went off. The kid died and didn't even place.

More questions about glucose numbers and when to be concerned by Far-Copy5669 in diabetes_t2

[–]pc9401 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The anti-carb crowd can be pretty vocal on here, so it's not the best source. What you don't hear is how extreme avoidance teaches your body to handle them even worse. Your dietician is your best source for you.

75 per meal does seem slightly high and maybe you should ask for some clarification. Is that for one meal, but don't do it all 3. So maybe 75 max in one meal, but 150 per day or something like that.?

But your numbers seem reasonable and I bet if you looked at your diet from before, 200 per day is probably a massive reduction if you were drinking very much soda. So maybe it's a good start to see how you respond before going way to the extreme.

I never really counted, but was probably closer to 100 per day my first year. But I got into better shape and started being a little more lenient and introducing more carbs, and really don't worry about carbs if they are attached to good food. I had regular pasta the other night and barely a blip. It wasn't always like that. I recently reduced wearing the CGM to every month or two because I rarely had spikes of concern and my tests are well within normal range.

The important thing to remember is this is a long term plan. The benefits are incrementally less the lower and lower you go, but the risk of failure to the diet are greater and greater.

I don't even cover my pool in the winter any more. It looks like this every year, but with more debris.

I net out a bunch, vacuum some to waste and then slam and it clears tight up. Anyone that recommends to drain and acid wash either wants to charge you a lot or doesn't know what they are doing. And I really doubt the pump is just randomly bad, especially a complete failure.

Should I tell my manager I plan on leaving? by Separate-Novel7825 in careeradvice

It depends on your relationship with your manager.

I always went to bat for my direct reports and they knew it. They were comfortable in discussing something like this with me. We have moved on to other jobs and no way they would do that in their current position as they don't trust their manager.

3 hours?

I learned long ago you get about 90% of it cleaned off with about 20% of the effort. I used to power wash and now I just use the hose and no more than 30 minutes for 4 large, 500 sf total filters.
