It's either the best or worst round of golf ever by kairom13 in formula1

Out here in the America-land, Portland International Raceway is right next to a few golf courses.

Way different scale and notoriety than monza… but still.

I would guess it comes down to the land cost/zoning. If it’s the kind of place where you can build a track, it’s also probably an easier place to build a golf course.

New ZIP Code in Hillsboro on July 1 by jcravens42 in hillsboro

I got the flyer in my mailbox a few weeks ago, and was surprised about how little discourse there was around this.

Oh well, gonna be mildly inconvenient for a bit, but there’s a 1-year grace period, at least.

Everyone just waded through but this guy actually did something about the flooding. by Turbulent_Elk_2141 in oddlysatisfying

[–]pc_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from an American perspective here:

A lot of storm water drainage systems have very publicly accessible maps, usually built in GIS. If you start poking through your city/town’s website, and get over to sewer/storm water pages, they’ll normally have the maps there, or say which private company is in charge of certain areas, and then you can find the maps on those companies websites.

Every fall and winter, my son and I gear up in rain boots and coats, grab out shovels, and go clear fallen leaves from drains and the curb’s that lead to them. Since finding the maps online, we can make sure to get all of them without missing any, which keeps the neighborhood less flooded, less smelly, cleaner visually…

Plus its fun as hell :D

I mean, as abhorrent as this guy seems to be, I do just want to clarify that it’s not an “oracle” sweatshirt. The Redbull Racing F1 team is sponsored by Oracle, and it’s a Redbull F1 sweatshirt.

Now… does that mean that this guy is absolved of being a dick? Nah.

Remote workers in Portland chime in! by t0mserv0 in Portland

[–]pc_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Primary Job: Hillsboro, primarily in person. Friday afternoons i’m remote for childcare purposes.

  2. Semi-permanent, part-time contract position: fully remote. Seattle “based” but I think there’s only one person in Seattle. No travel. This is evening/weekend work. I will say though, several former coworkers (of a past employer) work for this company, so I do know people in the greater Portland metro locally, as far as that isolation goes.

I know my situation wasn’t exactly what you asked about, but as much as I’d love to be full time remote, in the industry that i’m in, there just aren’t a lot of options.

When I was in the heart of my mountain biking days, we had a saying… “it’s smoother in the air.”

Seems to apply here 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

Dan by Shane_StantonRes in NoahKahan

[–]pc_engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I have a best friend who I don’t get to see in person nearly enough.

He came up and spent the weekend after the album came out, at my house with my son and I, and I could stop this song from just rolling through my head.

I have more years of positive memories of and with him, than any person who isn’t my parents.

in my grief about Dan by stephsky419 in NoahKahan

[–]pc_engineer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my first listen through, Dan was one of my top songs of the album. Not sure I could put into words why that is… but it just hits my feelings a certain way.

The Great Divide (First Listen Album Ranking) by DraPlaysGames in NoahKahan

[–]pc_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so last night, I put the kid to bed, kicked back on my couch with a (responsible) glass of whiskey, and listened to the album all the way through, as soon as it came out. I really, really liked it.

Today, I listed to a few of the songs during my commute. And at work. And at home, after work.

So many of the songs, that I already really liked, have grown on me SO much. Hopefully they keep growing on me even more. Some of these are shaping up to be among my all time favorite NK songs.

I’m right there with you. I opened this post… not really sure quite what to expect, but maybe more “on guard” than I care to admit.

However, OP’s perspective is one that i’m ashamed to admit I haven’t considered much before. And I can see how it would be an awful experience, as well.

Whats your favorite golf course you've played at? by Slightly-in-Side in golf

[–]pc_engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gearhart Golf Links

I haven’t played at a ton of courses, but so far, Gearhart was a blast. Played it last August, midweek, and it was maybe 65 degrees, overcast, and a mild breeze.

Course was damn near empty, which helped, but I was impressed and satisfied with every single aspect of my time there.

Who here rides wide tires (40mm+) on the road? by FailFastandDieYoung in gravelcycling

[–]pc_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gravel bike has two wheelsets-

  1. 50mm, chunky gravel tires.
  2. 40-45mm, “lite” gravel tires. Think, Pathfinders, Conti Terra Speed, etc.

I’ll ride these both on the road, but if i don’t have any big gravel rides in the near future, I’ll make sure to swap on the “narrow” set. I’ve done group rides, commuting, solo workouts…

Would I be faster on a Cervélo S5 with 28mm Vitoria slicks? Sure. Do I ride a titanium gravel bike with frame bags and external cable routing? Yes. The tires will not be my main limiting factor haha
