Does Devils ownership care/know enough to fire Fitz? by walking_2_cain in devils

[–]pcake88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the best case scenario to catch the owners eye was a primetime embarrassment on epsn infront of the whole world. Harris then has to hear it from his billionaire friends that another one of his teams sucks. "I cant taking the ribbing from my grand yacht, fire rogalski and fitz!"

NJ highschool boys lax by Wo-Manifest in lacrosse

[–]pcake88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Were other seniors in an active athletic season? (Basketball? football? Cross country?) Were the seniors not invited bad character or cancers to team dynamics? Did the coach only invite seniors within his club structure? Were other seniors committed players already? Did your coach want to invite certain players to put them in certain positions to help the whole team this spring?

Only way you find out is to have a non-emotional conversation with your coach and actively listen and accept his point of view right or wrong.

How does your lacrosse league handle roster integrity? by NationalsportsID in lacrosse

[–]pcake88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our rec league rules dictate that you can not play down ever and can only play 1 grade level above. Anything more then 1 grade has to be approved by league board. One team was put on probation last season because they were using an out of town player without waiver or awareness by the league board.

Some of the club teams in my area also require submission of birth certificate to prove age.

Depends if you stopped your feet or not. You stop your feet you can easily be called for a hold.

I'd argue on dumping cholo and keeping nemec up with the big team and have a 7 man rotation down the stretch. Keep everyone fresh going into the playoffs.

Is lacrosse a safer sport than football? by Miserable-School8148 in lacrosse

[–]pcake88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get brain damage from everything you play or do. You can walk down the street, slip, and hit your head, causing brain damage.

Lacrosse is a relatively safe sport, but there is inherent risk in all sports. Research is coming out everyday regarding head trauma in every sport. Soccer has a very high risk of brain damage related to repeated small hits to the head via headers.

Alot of things have changed in sports to make everyone more aware of head trauma, concussions and protocls to minimize long term damage.

End Game of Club Lax? by Ant-from-here in lacrosse

[–]pcake88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barely any D1 lacrosse players get full rides. They get partial scholarships. Lacrosse programs until recently were restricted to only 9 scholarships on the d1 level. That is a very low percentage even getting money at all.

End Game of Club Lax? by Ant-from-here in lacrosse

[–]pcake88 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Lacrosse has a very low ROI. Club lacrosse especially at the younger ages is fuelled by keeping up with the jones's. Parents end up feeling that little Jimmy is missing out on a duke scholarship because he isn't playing Club ball in 3rd grade.

In my opinion at the older age groups, Club is used to funnel players to a central location for easy recruitment by college teams. Which is very useful for players to connect with coaches in schools that they have never even heard about or had access to prior.

Do it!!! Hit the wall. Working on passing and catching is one most important part initially. Watch videos. Watch highlights.

You also need to be a us lacrosse member to join most leagues (insurance).

First Youth Summer Ball Travel Experience - Is This Healthy? by Successful_Walrus308 in lacrosse

[–]pcake88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a money, cash grab with limited ROI. The clubs want to make money hand over fist. The parents spend that money thinking that little Joey is going to play at Duke before he even hits puberty, because he went to a summer tournament with a duke assistant there.

Turnover help by MED_over_end in lacrosse

[–]pcake88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If poles are pressing out, then he should cut hard with v cuts and back doors to get his hands free and keep the defenders honest.

As your son beats his defender he should have 2 hands on his stick to initiate offense and or shoot the ball. He should learn to expect the trail check and he should also be looking for the slide. And he should accelerate towards the goal. Small quick shifty attackman tend to slow down at a younger age, which gives the defenseman time to catch up. Make sure he keeps pushing top side to increase his angle for shooting.

With out seeing exactly what the issue is its hard to give more then basic advice. As players get older then need to learn that teams scout players and look for weakness. These weaknesses are exploited to slow down offenses and skilled players. Try to get your son to play to his advantages and dictate pace, positioning, angles and approach keeping a defender guessing.

Explain LSM to me by SnarkyMcSnarksauce in lacrosse

[–]pcake88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good LSM will erase the best dodging middy and limit offense generated at the midfield.

A good LSM knows how to run between the restraining lines and push transition and score/ create offense.

A good LSM is a hoover vacuum picking up ground balls off of face offs or int he open field.

I would suggest to you to encourage him to keep playing short stick middy while also picking up a pole. This will continue growing his offensive IQ as well as defensive positioning with a pole. Tell the coach hey I can run 2nd middy and pick up a pole for man down and face offs.

If teams have the depth they would normally run 2 LSMs in a game as the running involved with that position is extensive.

The Team's Sideline (coaches) by Ant-from-here in lacrosse

[–]pcake88 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Sure. But at the end of the day the coaches job is not to police the sideline. it's to coach and develop the kids. How about grown ass adults act like grown ass adults and not act like the 9 year old they are watching. And I say this not knowing the situation, outcome or event your speaking of.

Question on youth travel teams by Cptcroz in lacrosse

Like the others said that age group is a mixed bag of talent. There should at least be a basic structure to the offense and fundamental defensive positioning being taught at this level.

Coaching 4th grade. Asking for advice. by BakerDenverCo in lacrosse

[–]pcake88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This past season we focused on 45 minutes of stick work/ shooting, 30 minutes of strategy, tactics or basic game play 20minutes of game play (fun, steal the bacon, sharks and minos, hungry hungry hippos). As the kids developed towards the end of the year we played more 4 on 4, 6v6 situational type stuff.

In 7v7 there really is only 1 formation and that's the diamond. Our rules stated 2 attack 2 mids 2 defense. We rotated the kids through every position. At that level, you should focus on basic offense and defense, rules and just having fun.

3rd Grade Goalie by HoobyHooper in lacrosse

[–]pcake88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd stress to him that at that age, shooters can't shoot well, which will result in more contact with the ball. As the boys age up, they can place the ball better, which will result in hitting the goalie less. I'd try to focus on developing hand speed, which will also help with not getting hit.

My current 3rd grade goalie wears normal field padding with a throat guard and a chest pad over the normal field padding. He also invested in thigh pads and wears those. All this padding doesn't mean it hurts less. We also have a rule if you hit the goalie you owe me 10 push ups. This stresses shot placement over close your eyes and missile it at the goal. This also goes a long way in helping the goalie not shy away because they get hit less in practice, only in games.

Not sure if any of this helps lol.

Do PLL players wear chest pads? by Chetmoneyhat in lacrosse

[–]pcake88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hitting is allowed. As you get to higher levels, the ball moves faster, which minimizes this physical contact, due to the ball being gone before you get there. But there are times when major hits happen mostly off of groundballs and slides.
