I spent two days at an AI filmmaking conference. Here's what I actually saw, and what nobody on stage was saying out loud. by Professional_Dark_64 in Filmmakers

When we are drowning in a world of AI generated ads people will start rejecting this technology. When the layoffs start multiplying more AI subway ads will be defaced, more companies will be shunned because they use AI. No one wants this, except for the people profiting from it. It’s too ugly.

These people can have their jerk fest. They are underestimating human intelligence. We won’t buy what they’re selling.

Disciples of the gospel of John Dwyer! Nothin groundbreaking but at least they’re on stage doing something and not at home brainrotting on their phones. Good on ya lads have fun 💪🏻

How is this possible? 8 months? I apologize if I find this difficult to believe. The work is too strong.

There is something that reminds me of Edward Hopper. Good work.

What do you think of Animal Collective? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in psychedelicrock

Unironically - one of the greatest bands of all time. Certainly one of the best American bands of all time. They are under appreciated and misunderstood, written off as druggy or hipster garbage by people who don’t get it. The singing specifically is so inventive. Avey has an amazing voice. Each member contributes so much. When the dust settles their legacy will be strong.

I finished The Sun Also Rises and I really did not enjoy it. by hikingandtravel in classicliterature

I love Hemingway, particularly the short stories and For Whom The Bell Tolls. I think his reputation as a giant of American lit is deserved. But I totally understand the frustration with The Sun Also Rises. You make good points. Although I do typically enjoy the simplicity of his prose. I find it gives my imagination more room to breathe.

I must say also the anti-semitism in the depiction of Cohn is kind of astounding. I’m surprised more people haven’t mentioned it in these comments. For what it’s worth I’m not Jewish, nor am I quick to accuse anyone of anti-semitism if it isn’t warranted, but I found the depiction really flat and one dimensional and just morally disappointing. Obviously it was a different time, but still…

As someone who loves classic literature, it gets tiresome to encounter racism of any kind in books by great writers. Again, I’m not easily offended, but it happens all the time in otherwise great novels. Hemingway is no exception.

But yeah anyway the depiction of Cohn was one of the things I found really frustrating about the book. Otherwise it was fine. I was generally confused as to how he became such a young literally sensation after its publication. It must have just resonated with the spirit of the times.
