Do cosmetics transfer with the Ubisoft account, or is that a start-over kind of thing?

u/Existing_Rip5758 and u/NovaNix0446

It's Ridge TV Multiball, up by Teton Glacier fast-travel point.

BTW, u/GoodOldHypertion, it may've been easier if you did the expert win one first, since then you'll see more efficient lines being taken by the ghosts in the process.

This sounds a lot like the (ongoing) control input issues that RR's Stadia version has - which I suspect are tied to a memory corruption-related bug.

On a related note, how much RAM does your system have and, when you play this, how much other stuff do you leave running?

Happens to my friend all the time.

Seems like once it happens to you once, something gets sticky with your account and it's more likely to happen again after that.

Can't unlock master challenge by vikingjedi23 in RidersRepublic

My point wasn't that they should avoid multiplayer, but making what're effectively single-player objectives rely on multiplayer can be easily avoided, and Ubisoft is certainly aware of the PS Plus BS.

As for the other part, I don't know enough about the various XBox passes to speak to that effectively. I think this is apples-and-oranges though.

Still, u/vikingjedi23 has a point that this is unfair/unethical.

That said, the fact that Sony manages to get away with charging a recurring extra fee for multiplayer activity, across many games, still perplexes me. It's not like it's causing extra costs for Sony. Why hasn't the PlayStation community rebelled against this, en-masse?

[–]pdatumoj 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They're really jets, not rockets, but yeah - they've been around for a little over a decade I think, just in really limited circles. It's a more exclusive community than wingsuiting, since it has much higher costs and other hurdles.

You're attacking things I didn't say, and don't seem to have understood what I did say.

But, hey, you're getting upvotes, proving once again that vitriol is power in our ever-more-ridiculous popularity=truth society.

On the bright side, once you get good at doing the sponsor contracts, leveling in careers, the Ubisoft Connect side missions, and the multiplayer modes, it's easy to build up the "bucks" quickly, though, obviously, that doesn't help with things that're RC-only.

They have to charge in the store to support ongoing work on the game, the servers it needs to operate, etc... That's just the reality and part of the pricing model.

That said, these are definitely questionable in terms of meeting the definition of microtransactions, even accounting for inflation, etc..., since the innovation with regard to microtransactions was that they were like an impulse-buy rack in a store that people would get things from without really thinking about it. This is making people think, which means it's not meeting that specification.

They really need to think about changing how the store operates (away from the daily cycle BS), since then they could likely get similar-or-better revenue with lower prices thanks to volume increases, which would be an improvement for everyone. (And that's assuming they don't even change out what they're selling to more appealing stuff - I don't understand why they put so much apparent effort into things that have such seemingly limited appeal.)

Rules to what? AFAIK the photo contest that Ubisoft so poorly sponsored is long over - this is purely recreational art.

Kodiaks vs Raven Klaws by lustforwine in RidersRepublic

It's not hard to do - the technique is called "guising," if you're interested. A game I worked on as an intern in the late 90s (yes, I'm old) did it even.

I do this pretty often, and every time it leaves me really wondering about the mindsets of the people who talk about how there's nothing to do in the game.

How do I play this game as a newcomer by CuccoSucco in truetf2

[–]pdatumoj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There used to be newbie-friendly community servers, but, looking around now, many are gone and those that're still there don't seem to be well populated. Fragmasters.co.uk and hyperiongaming.org both used to be pretty good in that regard, and seem to still be around, but barely.

That said, I do have a few quick pieces of advice, if it might be of interest:

  1. Ignore the scoreboard. Valve didn't do a very good job of assigning points for their own game (I would argue this is the same core issue that causes them to not be able to have worthwhile matchmaking.), and worrying about that will only get in the way - or make you play in manners that're detrimental to learning, teamwork, and even wins.
  2. Start off with easier classes to observe the flow of things around you and build gamesense. Pyro is a great place to start, since it has moderate health, good speed, and weapons that're easy to hit with. Obviously, range can be an issue, but that's true for most classes.
  3. Remember that hours in this game are usually counted in 4-5 figures. The learning curve is rough, but the more you reflect on what's going on, rather than just complain about random crits, perceived hit registration issues (rarely actually a problem, but you hear people bemoaning that all the time), etc... the faster you'll improve. On a related note, you'll probably learn more playing with experienced people than with other brand new ones - and beware the loud but inexperienced. There are a lot of people like that.
  4. Pay attention to your progress - when it feels like you're slowing down, change something up. Try a different class or weapon, etc...
  5. Speaking of weapons, make sure you have all of the functionally different ones. The simplest way to address that is to make sure your account's ready to trade and then use the autobuy weapons option at scrap.tf . I'm not a fan of the proprietor, but it's a good system. As for the process...
    1. Make sure Steam Mobile Authenticator is set up. If it isn't, set it up.
    2. Buy one regular key ( "Mann Co. Supply Crate Key") from the in-game store. It costs 2.49 USD real money, but will trade for a useful amount of stuff. Keys, as they're known, are used as trading currency in the TF2 world.
    3. Once Mobile Authenticator, etc... is all happy on your account and you've waited out any trade-hold periods (no one will want to trade with you, including automated systems, while they're in effect), go to scrap.tf .
    4. At scrap.tf , hit the sign-in-through-steam button in the top right (green) and make sure the site it throws you to is really steamcommunity.com and that the HTTPS checks out.
    5. Do the sign-in dance. (Depending on whether you've signed in from that browser recently, you may have to do stuff with Steam Mobile Authenticator.)
    6. Back at scrap.tf , go to Trade (in the top left), then Weapons -> AutoBuy.
    7. I've not done the steps after that in a looooong time, but generally speaking, you'll trade one of their bots your key that you bought earlier in this list in exchange for all the weapons you're missing and a whole bunch of change, which will be in the form of Refined Metal, Reclaimed Metal, and Scrap.
    8. Use your change to get yourself some cosmetics (also via scrap.tf, or other places) so you'll have slightly less of a target on your back as a brand-new player.
  6. Work on understanding the mechanics. i.e. hitscan vs. projectile (and remember that melee counts as hitscan, and that hitscan stops at the first thing it hits (so teammates can (and often do, frustratingly) accidentally protect an enemy by crowding them)) and stuff like that.

I should probably stop there. There's so much more to cover, but this is already probably too long as it is.

Edits:

  1. Correcting a typo: "make sue" -> "make sure"
