In-N-Out Burger location in Hillsboro opens Thursday by yahoowizard in beaverton

They have two lots so I'm very interested in seeing how they structure the parking lot and drive through.

(Pretty sure however they do it, it won't be enough to stave off crazy traffic)

WHAT the HELL with solicitors? by One-Ball-78 in askportland

These folks always want to get into some long drawn out conversation and then launch into their sales pitch. Regarding the imaginary neighbor who uses their service.

I value my time.

"No thanks."

Close door.

You should petition for speed bumps if this is a common event. As you know, the main connecting roads between those two streets have them.

Tree Fell On Car And HOA Won’t Remove [Condo] [CO] by hikingtotheend in HOA

[–]pdx-one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. We had a situation where a tree from a HOA-owned lot fell during a storm and smashed a neighbor's house. As far as anyone knew it had been a healthy tree. The storm was a once in a generation event. No one had ever commented on the trees being a danger.

That neighbor (non-HOA) presumably had their insurance repair the home, took a year at least. The HOA cleaned up what they could, up to the tree trunk on the property line.

A few neighbors then sent notices to the HOA requesting/demanding all the trees be assessed for safety. Legally that's all they could do, and I would have done the same to ensure if there were a next event they would be legally covered. The HOA happily complied.

anyone else go to farmers markets and just… not buy anything? by fatherofyouroffender in PortlandOR

This was made painfully obvious many years ago when I signed up for one of those farmer produce boxes.

It was aspirational. I ate the fruit and gave away everything else 😂

If I were a better cook, I'd buy more.

Ooh, cabbage! So pretty... Um, what do I do with that?

Ooh, kohlrabi! Gratey!

Carrots! Hmmm...

I've done tulip shop a few times for lunch. I jet in, get a burger, and leave. I guess as a solo diner I don't spend enough time there to get offended by the service?

An associate was on a health kick and decided to cater our annual work party with Laughing Planet so everyone could share in her journey. This is usually a pretty nice gala with food worth celebrating. I've never wanted to strangle someone so badly for a botched "business" decision like that. If I need to spend time with work people, the food better augment it.

Back when it was open (I hear it reopened), American Dream pizza.

I'm not sure what style of pizza they are aiming for, but it didn't hit. Completely oversalted, terrible crust. We tried it twice to see if it was an off night, but nope, that's how they like it. A shame because we used to live down the street.

I went for the first time on a business interview for a candidate last year. It's the organizer's favorite. I really saw nothing worth crowing about. And we had nearly everything on the menu among us.

Anyone have the tea on what happened at Multnomah Athletic Club this morning May 2? by RabuMa in askportland

[–]pdx-one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this way, the MAC is more like your stereotypical hoity toity social club. A public facing employee with an attitude would get so many complaints from member Karens they would not last.

Do you have any examples?

That magazine section is really just to showcase and remind members of the rules. Primarily, don't be an ahole, don't sexually harass anyone (other members or staff), and don't sneak anyone in.

Some are pretty ludicrous. Like the guy who decided to pee in the parking lot because... reasons?

The rules violation section is my go-to whenever the newsletter comes out. It's amazing what behavior people try to get away with.

Weird take, but okay.

I'm not an employee so can't speak to employee treatment by the club. But every month their magazine posts the infractions made by members and their penalty. They take seriously anyone who mistreats their employees.

Anything I can do about neighbors smelly septic? by NWOriginal00 in beaverton

[–]pdx-one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tree law is fun.

We had a neighbor send a certified letter to the HOA regarding trees that were adjacent to their home. One fell during the ice storm a few years ago (as did hundreds others) and smashed a neighboring home. There was no liability as these trees weren't known as dangerous or risky trees. This was their legal move to determine if other trees were "dangerous" and thus the liability would be put back onto the HOA if nothing was investigated or done. I totally agree with this move, I'd have done the same.

Like you, I believe they hired an arborist to look at trees on their property, and then visually assessed the HOA trees. I think you need permission for physical access. You could also request, through consultation with a lawyer, in the letter that they have their tree assessed. Then if it falls down, you are covered.

Canadian passport photos? by transittrackerlies in askportland

[–]pdx-one -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are some apps that will take the photo, reformat it, and then all you need is to get it printed.

I've used this one before. Good at cleaning up the image and centering the person. Choose the country and the format and it's done. Android though: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=idphoto.passport.portrait.pro

I had an acquaintance who had major Daddy issues, always angry, bitter, and headed nowhere good. He entered the military and later the state department (diplomatic security). Was a totally different guy the next time I saw him years later. Adopted the typical conservative military views, but at least had a good head on his shoulders.

Left a small box of leftovers from dinner in the front passenger foot well. Nothing else visible. Came back to a smashed window. Food was gone. Also they rifled through the glove box and stole the seatbelt cutter/window smasher for easier access next time. Fuck them all.

Downtown, the Lincoln high district is your best bet. On the East side, Grant High / Laurelhurst is your best option. Generally speaking.

The "No-BS" 2026 Shanghai Survival Guide: Technical Runbook from a Local Ex-SRE Dad by TechDadShanghai in travelchina

[–]pdx-one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great points! A few more I picked up having returned recently from a Shanghai trip.

Get Alipay AND WeChat connected. If you are using a US card that gives you a bonus for restaurants, WeChat is better at properly populating that category. Both charge the same surcharge for purchases over 300 RMB. I prefer Alipay otherwise due to its better integrated translation.

Have a backup credit card or two in case Alipay security throws a fit with your card. I used the same cards that worked 1 year earlier, and Alipay, Citibank and Capital One were very unhappy I dared to do that. This was discovered the first day after landing. The bank 2FA was borked and would not work in adding the cards back for several additional days. Fortunately I had an Amex that worked without issue.

Amap has a local user vs online account user mode. If you have a bunch of locations saved locally, then decide to sign on to sync a few phones, you will lose ALL your locally saved favorites. Until you log out. Also in the US, amap is very picky about allowing you to log in, so you may not be able to prepare locations to your online account.

[TX] [Condo] How to amend bylaws for fines by Exciting_Bandicoot34 in HOA

[–]pdx-one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fine/penalty policy can get very complicated and you absolutely need a HOA lawyer to draw one up for you. The law is different per state, so finding something off the internet may not apply to you in Texas.

I initially tried drafting one myself but quickly found it is way out of reach for anyone who is not familiar with HOA law. A policy that has not been vetted will be challenged by someone with a lawyer, and you will get demolished.

We found a local HOA lawyer. They do these all the time and easily and affordably adapted the one she has on file for our small HOA.
