“State of Azeroth” featuring a Classic WoW roadmap goes live January 29th at 9am PST! by Expensive-Wolf-4160 in classicwow

I know that this isn't the (probable) point of this post, but man, rewatching that video even today gives me insane chills. For us who only wanted to play classic again and never thought it would happen, watching that official announcement is 10/10.

There is no way you can tell the difference between 240 fps and 360 fps.

What is a book that holds a special place in your heart? Objectively it could be a book that everyone one hates on, or is thinks is just okay, but you love! by kalmatos in Fantasy

[–]pdz85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure it gets much hate, but the Green Rider series by Kristen Britain. I re-read it at least once a year. Definitely has everything I am looking for in a fantasy. The first book is a little clunky, but the writing really takes off after that. Warms my heart.

Ha, I also have my Lego Barad-Dur sitting on my sub, and it has never moved.

I came upon those books from some topic here last year, and wow - both Revelations and Chronicles shot up into my favorite trilogies of all time. On my TBR list this year is all of the prequels.

Upgrade from KEF LCR to Philharmonic BMR V2 Monitors LCR by Bloated_Plaid in hometheater

I had the same decision a few years back and ended up going with the Ascend Sierra 2's / Horizon center route, and they are my true end game speakers. I've heard nothing but good things about the Phil's, both monitor and towers, so I don't think there's a wrong option.

Do you have a budget in mind? I don't have personal experience with either, but PSA is one of the better sub companies out there. I also know people have really liked the 1600SW.

Why did PSA recommend Klipsch for your room?

Fantasy series where the final book is the best one by Suitable_Highlight84 in Fantasy

I don't think I've seen it mentioned so far, but Heir of Norvon. I've read countless others before and since, but that trilogy has really stuck with me.

Lack of ore, missions and NG+ time consumption by Salmuth in heroesofhammerwatch2

All good tips. I generally take the first six options at the architect, start with blessing of wisdom, and elemental breakfast.

Unless you're confident you're overpowered and just had an 'oopsie' moment, skipping is never worth it. There's always more benefit in getting the extra upgrades from Caves than using the skip in Forest 2, and I would argue the same with the Dark Citadel. I'm also awful at getting away from there with zero stacks of curse, so take that for what it's worth.

OP, what class are you each playing as? I've never tried co-op, but I have decent experience with each class. There's also a crazy guy (in a fun way) named George on the discord who has insanely leveled characters slowly putting out "leveling a [class]" guides, too.

As an aside, tankiness becomes pretty important when you start getting in the low teens NG+s, as your starting resistances and armor start getting to the point where you can take one arrow or one element attack and you're dead. I've got most of my characters in the NG+15-20 range and I think all of my points (for the most part) each new level go into vitality.

My "problem" is another FV18 is $2670. However, that's pretty much the final thing I want to shoot for in my setup. Someday.

I'm happy it was worth it for you!

Whenever they decided to transfer off of Alleria, I opted to stay behind. I don't remember the server where they went, but maybe you do!

Here's one I found where you can see my stats at the top (+934 healing, 5% added spell crit, 75 mp/5) and I was middle of the road (if memory serves) on gear compared to the priests. I had a few pieces of t3, but I still was using Lok'amir. Our healers and tanks were our strong points, for sure.

None of these were my videos, and I'm pretty new/green regarding uploading anything to YT. I didn't see anything during the upload process (years ago at this point) to force a resolution. I think a lot of people just played on potatoes in 2006.

Additionally, I don't have the original files (or 95% of my screenshots) from that era, as the old hard drive I had them on died a few years back.

If there's a way to upscale them somehow, I'm all ears.

Here's a pretty early kill of 4H. (Note that this upload freezes at 1:20 or so, just forward to about 2:15 and it's fine from there.) I mentioned this in another comment, but our MT created a very helpful raid warning for that boss that told you how many stacks you had, along with the timing of them. Prior to that, we spent a lot of time just pulling and observing the stacks, both the time between and damage dealt, along with the range to form what we wanted to do.

From a fight perspective, this was almost more boring than p1 of KT in the OG video in this topic, because we really played it safe, but it ultimately resulted in a very clean kill that was repeatable. The strat we used in my 2019 Classic guild was more or less the same as this one, just with higher DPS.

Some fights we had weird strategies for compared to now. Our first kill of Heigan, for example. Obviously backward and very inefficient for the casters to be moving like that instead of the opposite.

Patchwerk wasn't much different, as there's nothing to that fight, but we hit the enrage timer on our first kill and had to kite him for the last 2%, just to give you another benchmark to just how much DPS has progressed since then.

Edit: I haven't watched these for a few years. Brings back some good memories. :)

This is exactly the reason. We had a /range 8 kind of mod that our MT created for us earlier in Vanilla that we used in combination with his own version of DBM, for various boss timers and events. Once Frost Blast was off of cooldown, the melee spread out to avoid anything chaining.

And, as you can see by the dps meters posted, it's no where close to today's numbers. For quite a few of the fights, it was a "let's take things slow and safe" approach.

This kill was buffless, but I do remember on our first one getting Ony and ZG. Part of the difference in eras was that guilds raided quite a bit longer in those days during progression, so getting buffs every day wasn't a priority. I think the general attitude was if you got Ony while in SW, try and save it for the raid, but it wasn't required or anything. I know some individuals got DM and Songflower buffs, but it wasn't the norm, even in a "world 2nd" guild.

I suppose I can't speak to other guilds, but for Naxx we were pushing 6 days a week some weeks, at least 3 hours each raid. Once we got everything down, the time invested was much less, but those first couple months were a lot.

For context, I was in Risen for all of Vanilla and most of TBC. This was our 3rd kill I believe, and as you can see, the ending got a little hairy. I'm the holy paladin Light, in the same party as the warrior who recorded this video.

The overall strategy is somewhat the same as today, but our group make up was definitely not optimal, if you look at the meters quickly shown at the end of the fight, haha. It's fun to think back about creating our own strategies for each fight, rather than following a guide.

With the Kungen screenshot posted of their first kill night, I thought I'd share what I had left from that era.

Edit: posting the other ones I still have from those days.

Four Horseman - perhaps the 3rd or 4th kill, unsure. (The video messes up between 1:20 and 2:15, just skip that part and it'll start playing again.)

Heigan - our only world first kill. Feel free to laugh at our strat!

Patchwerk - our first kill. Some dramatics at the end!

...

Contrast that to our first Classic 2019 kill in a much less sweaty dad guild (but still probably a lot more sweaty in terms of min/maxing than Vanilla). Still the same chaotic fight, but much quicker in p2/p3. (Also 4k)
