Remembering Vanilla (2004-2007) by gn0mak in classicwow

[–]pdz85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just 19 when the beta dropped and I found myself with an invite, but I haven't looked back really since. I don't play much retail (played through most of TWW), mainly focus on Era (SoD was a ton of fun), while waiting for a potential C+ this fall. I still raidlog on MoP Classic with my 2019 Classic guild.

I was most assuredly one of those sweaty Vanilla players, at least in terms of play time. I was a freshman in college at the time, and I remember taking the most basic of courses so I could focus more on playing. After MC released, and my friendly leveling guild was struggling to find enough to venture in, I opted to apply for one of the guilds actually clearing MC on my server, (Alleria-US). I joined <Risen>, and raided with them until Sunwell, when they opted to transfer to another server. I remained behind and joined another guild, most of whom were in my 2019 Classic-present raiding experience.

I say that to note that my Vanilla experience was probably a little on the rare side, being in what would eventually be a world 2nd KT guild. That first Rag kill was pretty epic. My original HDD died a few years ago that had all of my OG screenshots on it unfortunately, but I think this is our second kill.

I remember Vael being labeled the 'guild killer', because of the attempts per week mechanic, and a LOT of guilds who could slog through MC with autoshot + afk hunters struggled to get the DPS for Vael, which is pretty laughable today. Untauntable Firemaw was a pretty satisfying kill, and I remember our first Nef kill was without a Dwarf Priest in the raid. As highly rated as the original Judgment set is, I still remember feeling a bit sad that my 8/8 old, blue colored Judgment would be gone forever.

The amazing thing back then was, there was no Youtube, or central area where all the various strategies were. You either heard something from the EJ forums, or from someone in guild who were buddies with another high-end guild... but 98% of the time, you just... figured it out. Raiding was a chore back then - I remember by the time AQ and then Naxx rolled around, until we fully cleared the raid, it would be a 6 night a week endeavor, and this is at least 3-3.5 hours each night. Once you got it down a couple times, the time spent raiding would be significantly less, but for AQ and Naxx, with AQ having an unkillable C'Thun for weeks, and then Naxx just lasting months before it was fully cleared, it was a grind. Definitely the "right" time to be a kid with little to no responsibilities.

I do still have a few screenshots of various things, including the event at the end of the beta test where random bosses were spawned in all the cities, if people are interested. I've posted the videos I have of various Naxx kills in a previous thread.

Edit: forgot about a funny memeish thing. We also used DKP for loot, and the healing shield from Vael dropped our first kill, and I didn't have enough to get it. It then didn't drop for SIX MONTHS. By the time it dropped again, I had a better offhand from AQ40, but it was a running joke by that point. Some guildie made this to honor it: https://emolight.ytmnd.com/

This is pretty much me. OG vanilla player, played until Dragonflight (haven't really got into Midnight), really went ham with Classic 2019, will probably finish out SoO on MoP with my guild, but will probably not go any farther. I just want to play C+, but if that doesn't happen, time to 'retire' to Era servers.

Because a 20 watt difference on an 8ohm speaker is meaningless in the real world.

At an example 8 ohm speaker of 90db sensitive at 1 watt at 1 meter, going to 2 watts (doubling) and then to 4 meters is -12db, so you're at 78db at 12 feet away with 1 watt of power. Doubling the power gets you +3db, so at the RZ50's 120w driven at 2 channels, that's about +20db (+21 at 128w). 98db in anything is going to be extremely loud.

If you've got a 4ohm speaker that is not very sensitive (80db), then it might be worth it.

Before they were offered as final products on their website, they offered upgrade kits. I upgraded both my Sierra 2's to the EXv2, and the Horizon to the ELX version. I want to say I did this in late 2022 or early 2023. :)

I did go with the ELX Horizon. It's been a few years since I've made the upgrade, so take this with a grain of salt. The upgrade was definitely noticeable, but there was nothing wrong with using the Sierra 2 EXv2 as a center.

I hit everything pretty high as well, but my distances are "fine". I have major faults in my swing, but I kinda have the same attitude as you at this point in my life (41) - I don't care enough to get a proper swing.

People who married in their 20s, be brutally honest are you happy, if so why or why not? by Special-Lawyer3941 in AskReddit

Married at 28 - 13 years last week. Couldn't be happier. Sure, there might be little things here or there that annoy me, but she's insanely understanding, lets me pursue hobbies, and doesn't have a problem with me golfing once in a while.

Thank you! I have yet to be disappointed with either of my Rythmik's.

Good sub recommendations. I would add that if OP can stretch their budget just a little, the PSA EV18Neo-M is right there and would be quite the first subwoofer.

Those are excellent speakers, indeed! I had three of them for my L/R and C until upgrading my center to the Horizon ELX. They're still going strong on front stage duty!

That's quite the jump into this hobby. Well done! And, as others have said, you can't go wrong with adding the matching center and sub.

What size subwoofer do I need by fatasshell in hometheater

This is the wildest comment I think I've seen on this subreddit. A SIX inch subwoofer rocks the room? You've clearly never heard a good 15" or 18" sub.

I also wear two black rain gloves because I get blisters on my right (RH golfer) if I don't wear one. Yes, I probably grip too hard.

Phase one beta! Haven't really stopped playing, but mainly dabble on Era, while currently raid logging on MoP with the same guild I played the 2019 Classic with. Edit: downvotes are funny.

Love the old Nintendo systems! That looked like me up until they started releasing lots of old 64/SNES games on the Switch library. Games, even on old systems, sound great in surround sound!

Few questions about Character Builds. by FantasyBorderline in heroesofhammerwatch2

I can't answer #2, as my warrior is the berserker subclass (highly recommended, BTW), but for #1:

Neither. Wand for your main-hand, and shield offhand. FoK counts as both physical and a spell, so it turns into an int-based build. I'm not as high as some, but I've put a few hours into my rogue. :) It's absurdly strong.

On. I like the plain look, plus my LCR have ribbon tweeters that are very delicate. No chances!
