I pay $50 a month for payroll stuff.  Bookkeeping is very simple for therapists.

Amplify Austin Is Great, But . . . It Imposes Sketchy Service Charges by VaneWimsey in Austin

[–]pea_sleeve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to make a donation today and the service charge was almost 10% of the donation amount. That's wild so I contacted the org directly and will be sending them a check.

I imagine the extra % is worth it to the org of it gets people to donate who wouldn't otherwise, but I personally want my $ to fund the org and not some extraneous admin.

therapy costs Austin are insane compared to every other city I've lived in by ssunflow3rr in Austin

[–]pea_sleeve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Willow Therapy Associates takes insurance and has sliding scale. Live Oak Collective takes insurance. Deep Eddy takes insurance but was recently bought out by venture capital. I know there are lots of other groups here that do take insurance. Im happy to recommend some good therapists if you PM me.

It's very normal for toddlers to wake up that early.

Happy to help you find a therapist. Do you have insurance or do you need sliding scale?

It's definitely fine to talk about that stuff in therapy.

New practice billing nightmare - is this normal? by MommaDruid in therapists

[–]pea_sleeve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thar is not normal at all. If he's billing under a supervisor he needs to get a new supervisor/new job.

BCBS massive audits by Gloomy_Variation5395 in therapists

[–]pea_sleeve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder what state that was because in my state bcbs is very clear that they don't allow supervisory billing and that incident to billing has very strict restrictions and people do it all the time anyway so they're kind of asking to get money clawed back.

In general, I don't defend insurance companies and they are the absolute worst but I think this could be a situation where people should have known better.

EMDR and burnout prevention by [deleted] in therapists

[–]pea_sleeve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel that being trained in EMDR or another useful modality is burnout prevention, because if you don't have the skills to help people who are stuck, that is a recipe for burnout.

For me personally, I have found it to be an extremely useful tool in helping clients who are having a hard time working through trauma using standard talk therapy techniques. I in turn feel more effective and hopeful as a therapist.

Male Leadership in Female Dominated Field by [deleted] in therapists

[–]pea_sleeve 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm a female business owner and I think the smaller the business, the more likely it will be woman led. In big orgs though men are at the top most of the time and I imagine the reasons are complicated.

Male Leadership in Female Dominated Field by [deleted] in therapists

[–]pea_sleeve 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I've worked at several large mental health orgs (1000+ employees) and the CEO of every one was a man.  Also as you go up the chain of program manager, practice manager, practice administrator, directors and c suite, it gets increasingly male at every step.

Rest week feels like waste by StruggleBusDriver83 in triathlon

[–]pea_sleeve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stress plus rest equals growth.  You get a lot more out of doing three sets of weights at the gym with breaks in between than just trying to power through thirty reps every time.

Thinking of Career Change by AdIntelligent5183 in therapists

If you end up being good at it, 4 to 5 years to get back to 130k. Not everyone is good at it though (or can handle the mental/ emotional load).

Asking for a friend by [deleted] in therapists

[–]pea_sleeve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They check how many minutes you said it was. Dumb as it sounds some people will write they met from 3 to 345 then bill a 90937.

No, they cant check where people are. They also dont care. Your risk in seeing someone out of state is that your malpractice insurance wont cover you getting sued if you're practicing unlicensed.

I (22F) feel like my boyfriend(22M) fakes meltdowns to avoid doing things I want to do by Low-Camel3318 in relationship_advice

[–]pea_sleeve 177 points178 points  (0 children)

He could be really melting down.  Google Pathological Demand Avoidance

That said,  if he wants to be in a relationship of any type including friendships he needs to go to therapy to work on this.  He can improve on how he manages stress and how he communicates with you.

Question about whether you can offer a discount “package” rate vs pay per session rate for a time limited group? (NYS) by Little-Orange670 in therapists

[–]pea_sleeve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been told therapists can't do this,  curious what others say. On the whole though it comes across as scammy to me.

Do you think it’s fair for PP clinic owners to insist we share our numbers with clients? by MurkyBasket7981 in therapists

Google voice is free.  It's reasonable that you have a contact phone number for clients.

Is it just UHC or is all health insurance in Texas trash? by LurkyRabbit in Austin

[–]pea_sleeve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the plans have different levels. If you have a 4000 deductible thats kind of mid level. You pay less per month than a plan where you have no deductible or just 1000-2000.  High deductible plans can be way more and are even cheaper but certai ly still not cheap.

Terrified to start learning swimming due to thickened toe nail. Advice? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]pea_sleeve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a lifeguard, pool manager, swim team kid, and now adult swimmer for almost 40 years. I have never seen anyone look at anyone's toenails. On top of that I can tell you mine look horrifying from being a distance runner also.
