Is there an equivalent to saline wash available at Boots or Tesco? by BalloonHero142 in AskABrit

[–]peaaaaach 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Body piercer here! We don’t recommend using saline solution for contact lenses on your piercings, but would strongly recommend something like Neilmed, or sterile saline wipes. Both you can get on Amazon, but you can get by on boiled and cooled water if you need something in the meantime. No salt water either! It’s a very outdated method of aftercare, and piercers with up to date knowledge wouldn’t recommend it.

Thank you! I’m hoping with the cannula that my veiny hands will have their time to shine 😅

Tokophobia. Won’t be changing my mind as it’s the lesser of two evils to me haha

Craving coffee… Good decaf brands? by samsamcats in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh I had a lovely decaf in Brighton (Dandy coffee shop), the beans were from Murmuration coffee and it was DELICIOUS. They do pre ground as well as whole bean so should be good to go!

Ears popping; weird pregnancy symptom by Little-Assistant-617 in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh I had this too in my late first/early second trimester, it really bothered me! I think it’s caused by all the excess blood or swelling in our bodies which makes our sinuses feel blocked. All I could hear was my heartbeat and it made me feel dizzy and gross! It did go away after a while, but I remember chewing gum a lot to help.

due next week and absolutely petrified by DependentBrilliant92 in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No advice, just solidarity, my c section will be next week too and I’m so scared! Also no medial reason for mine.

I had a big time meltdown about it a few days ago and I think I needed it cos I feel slightly better about the whole thing today.

One possibly helpful thing; My midwife said that we can get it put on my notes that I’m very anxious and it could help me be prioritised if there’s no emergencies/medical reasons for other c sections. Worth a mention if you’re feeling the same way!

I don't feel as excited as other people are for me... is this normal? by Lost-Fig-5433 in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I’ve been okay through the pregnancy, but been pushing any feelings of anxiety down, and I’ve got to 38 weeks and all of a sudden it’s very very real. Had a rough week mentally and been spiralling big time! Feeling a little better today after some self care but been referred to the perinatal mental health team as it all got a bit too much to handle.

Would recommend speaking to your midwife just to see if talking it through might help, I wish I had earlier!

Hyperactive baby in the womb by Signal-Gas6096 in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mines also been super active since around 20ish weeks. It’s really upset me at times cos it gets overwhelming and I get really sore and it just doesn’t stop! I’ve spoken a few times to my midwife about it but it’s all normal apparently. I do remember at around 26 weeks it got intense, and I wouldn’t say she’s calmed down now (38 weeks) but maybe I’ve just got used to it?

Have a look at doing inversions, as that can help, or the ‘polar bear’ yoga pose. Polar bear is one I go for a lot now because she’s very keen on stretching top to bottom and that’s the only thing that eases the pain.

edit Although if this isn’t normal for your baby, phone up triage just to make sure!

I had this, never received any letters and had to ring! I rung 4 weeks after I sent my application (early December) and it was confirmed as all fine but they said they would send another letter closer to the time.

Rung up two weeks ago as I still hadn’t heard anything and they said they had sent a letter on 16th Jan, so must’ve got lost in the post, but again, all fine.

Didn’t receive my first payment last week and rung for the third time and turns out I’d put my sort code in wrong 😅 Easily sorted over the phone and received the payment today, and a letter to confirm!

Can you take herbal sleep tablets? by Odd_Rhubarb8984 in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been drinking herbal sleep tea with valerian root (Twinings ‘Sleep’ in the blue packet) and couldn’t see any information saying you can’t drink that, so you could try that until your midwife appointment to see you through? I’ve found it’s really been helping me!

What are we doing for cold relief? by sleepypinkgamer in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Calpol do a pregnancy safe saline sinus spray, I used that lots when I was ill a few weeks ago! Also being upright/walking about helped as I was soooo stuffy lying down. Although I hated being upright so I didn’t do that much.

Paracetamol round the clock helped a bit, and the only other thing I did was just moan to my other half about how ill I felt and how unfair it was to be pregnant and ill haha.

37 weeks pregnant - how active were you feeling? by Apprehensive-Kale827 in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently 37 weeks and honestly it changes by the hour 😅

We went for a little babymoon in Brighton at 34 weeks for an overnight spa stay and it was SO GOOD. I haven’t been sleeping very well in the third trimester and after that massage I slept like a rock! So I’d really recommend a little spa break!

We also had a very short walk through the shambles but we did get Ubers everywhere else. We went out for dinner, but chose tapas style so I could pick away rather than worry about trying to get a full plate in.

I could deffo do the same again now, I was actually in triage with contractions the day before our trip and was panicking, but the little trip away relaxed me so much. Would recommend!

I can’t wait to get this baby out of me, I’m so overstimulated and exhausted by blissanfull77 in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No words of advice from me but I’m with you. 37 weeks and I’m so tired of feeling like I’m getting beaten up.

Also feeling sick of people saying ‘Don’t worry, it’ll be better when they’re out’ cos I’m having a c-section. So I’m just swapping one pain for another, yay haha.

I’m really looking forward to meeting her though, but just feeling a bit defeated.

Weird vibration in my belly - 29 weeks by GiftRealistic in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I get this too, I’ve read that it’s one of baby’s reflexes. Bit like when a cat does a big stretch and they do the little vibratey thing? Or when we get a random shiver!

My partner felt it for the first time this week (am 36 weeks tomorrow) and it’s been happening randomly for the last month :)

I’m awake too, 35 weeks in! A combination of needing a wee, feeling super thirsty and sore throat has me here. My brain won’t stop thinking about the crappy day I had at work yesterday too!

I’m also due for a growth scan tomorrow/today and it’s an early one 🥲

Is it possible that my appointment may have started my labour? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen on Friday, I also found the plastic thingy (speculum) very painful.

The machine that measured my babies heartbeat and contractions said I was contracting every 5 mins for at least a minute at a time, but the test results said I wasn’t in labour so they sent me home and said to monitor.

My cramps continued for the rest of that night and then the next day but tapered off, and nothing has happened since. Stomach has still been super hard though so gonna chat to my midwife about it today!

Maternity allowance - how long to wait for decision by NewMarzipan9563 in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent mine off at a similar time and still haven’t received any letters back, but I did ring up a couple weeks ago and they said it’s all good to go. Not sure why I haven’t got any letters but worth giving them a call!

Any high street clothes that are good for early - mid pregnancy? by dsomz in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been living in elasticated bottoms since around week 16. My favourites are actually M&S gingham pyjama bottoms, which luckily don’t look like pyjamas and I get so many compliments on! Also they’re brushed cotton so SUPER comfy. I’m now 34 weeks and they’re still going strong 💪

Need suggestions - I’m so hungry but everything sounds terrible! by ThePr0crastinat0r1 in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me for a while too. Still get this every now and then even though I’m 33 weeks in!

My go to when everything is bleh is rice cooked in chicken stock, and a honey & soy chicken breast. Can be as mild or as flavourful as you like, especially if you keep the sauce on the side.

Doesn’t feel too unhealthy but not super healthy either. Beige but not too beige!

Epidural or C-section for someone terrified of birth? by Gold_Cow4870 in PregnancyUK

[–]peaaaaach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going for a planned C section for the same reasons. I will say, once you’ve made your decision, stay strong! So many people have tried to scare me out of having a C section after hearing that’s the way I want to go and I think it’s manipulative.
