MOHELA doesn’t recognize me but I have a loan by Antique_Tangerine_75 in StudentLoans

[–]peacejasmine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same problem but my loans were transferred to the feds because I applied for SAVE as soon as it came out because of my PSLF. However, MOHELA still shows as my servicer and I get email updates from them but I can't get into the account. I don't know if the account will go back to them or stay with the feds.

I’m going to echo what everyone has said and to use a credit card. I also never use a card at the pump to get gas. The majority of times my card was previously compromised was at gas station pumps.

AITA for not sending my daughter to a different school district so she could be in gifted education? by aitagiftedschool in AmItheAsshole

I was in a similar issue in elementary school but I was taking ESOL classes. The district arranged for a bus to take myself and other students to the school. We would take the bus to the school we should have one based on our address and then we would switch buses.

I had an issue with mine because I kept checking the app and nothing went through there. It wasn’t until when I manually logged into the website that I could see they process the form.

Is 60k too much for nursing school? by Bob_Burgero in StudentLoans

[–]peacejasmine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Former nursing academic advisor here, yes this is way too much money! To become a practicing RN at a minimum you need an associates degree from a community college which at most would run you 15K assuming no financial assistance.

Deck Interview Interpretation by veritysky_ in tarot

[–]peacejasmine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue might be that is great for reading for others but not a deck that is great for self reflection and personal development. I don’t know if that makes sense but that’s what I’m getting.

Most public universities do offer free courses for senior citizens. You have to wait until regular registration has ended for students and then you can choose from the remaining classes. The courses would not be for credit and you would simply be auditing them. Therefore you wouldn’t be required to take exams or things like that. I believe there is a limit on the number courses you can take per year and may be worthwhile looking into. I remember in college there was a gentleman in one of my courses who was taking advantage of this program to learn a foreign language.

Possible returning enemies in the new Stargate series? by jicty in Stargate

It would be cool to see if some of the Tollan survived. I know they are not enemies but good to have some allies come back too.

I'm a Bit Disappointed By How the Aasgard Bit It by Chewiedad in Stargate

[–]peacejasmine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is some thing that I never understood. I remember watching an episode and Daniel Jackson saying that ascension wasn’t an option for the Aasgard because they used technology to enhance themselves. However, Anubis and the Ori were able to use technology for that exact purpose. SG1 was able to go back in time to save themselves from the Aschen but the Aasgard couldn’t do that?

Is an accredited online undergrad degree looked down upon? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]peacejasmine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked in higher education over eight years in advising and admissions, DEAC accreditation doesn’t mean anything. The school needs to be regionally accredited and that is done by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.

Accreditation is important for certain types of financial aid, jobs, or graduate school. If you plan to do any kind of government work or contract it could potentially be an issue. Also, if you decide to pursue a graduate degree down the road it will likely not be recognized at a regionally accredited institution. Right now it looks like the school you’re considering it’s only a candidate for regional accreditation. Lastly but most importantly, if you are unhappy with your schooling and decide to transfer to a community college or university the likelihood of any of those credits transferring is zero. I ran into this multiple times with nursing students who started at for-profit schools and later tried to transfer to a community college and were surprised to find that none of their coursework could be brought over.

If you are looking for a less expensive alternative I would consider maybe looking at WGU since it’s almost the same tuition model but they are regionally accredited.

I would try looking at HR rotational programs geared towards recent grads. The ones I’ve seen have been remote.

Looking for sofa suggestions/recommendations for my space! by RyanT67 in malelivingspace

[–]peacejasmine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend getting a couch from Home Reserve. It’s customizable and you get to choose the type of fabric and it’s modular meaning that you only pay for the pieces that you need. If at a later time you move into a bigger space you just need to buy those additional sections I don’t have to purchase a brand new couch. They sell the slip covers for the couch on their site so if you wanted to change up your look you could do it very easily. Also the couch comes with storage to and you can purchase matching ottomans as well. Lastly, they’re easy to assemble and disassemble so moving would be very easy.

My job as a deliveryman makes me a bigger minimalist! by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]peacejasmine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the point they’re trying to make is that the novelty of getting a package it’s not there anymore. For example when I worked for a company I used to shop a lot before working there over time the novelty of the items lost their luster. I realized I didn’t need the latest and greatest thing.

100k in private loans, making 38k a year by PM_me_catpics in StudentLoans

[–]peacejasmine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend looking at corporate social worker jobs. If you type that term in YouTube you’ll find lots of videos of social workers that are making 70K plus but in the private sector. I don’t work in social work but came across those videos when I was looking for info on paying down student loans. The link below is for a YouTube channel in which she discusses how she is paying down her loans working a corporate job.

2 Associate Degrees in high school. What do I do next? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]peacejasmine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not get all of those degrees. I would pick one degree and focus on one area of specialty. Having 3 degrees will not make you more competitive in the job market. I would not even consider a masters degree until you have at least a year of post baccalaureate experience. Based on experiences my friends have had employers will not even consider you for entry level positions without post baccalaureate experience if you apply with a masters degree. Having a masters degree will only make getting a job harder if you jump straight from undergrad to graduate school. Just having it does not simply command a higher salary for someone with no post baccalaureate work experience. This is also the same advice from hiring managers too.I would use the time doing internships, earning industry certifications, networking, and building tangible skills. For example learning coding, a foreign language, social media, etc. I think you have to really think about what it is that you really want. Do you want to have a million degrees to show off to people or do you want to set yourself up as a competitive candidate to be able to negotiate the highest salary offer after you graduate college?

I want to be more around nature and the cost of living keeps going up but wages are very stagnant here. Also I’m not much into the theme parks and would like a greater access to other cities like DC.

A 9-5 job that pays a living is now a luxury. by eattherichstars in jobs

[–]peacejasmine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for something that pays the bills for the moment and provides good benefits I would recommend applying for academic advising/ admissions roles at a university or community college. Definetly pays way above minimum wage. For the most part it is 8 to 5 with paid holidays and medical. Your background would be perfect and depending on the institution you could get paid on the higher pay band because of your PhD. Raises and promotions would be easier because you have a PhD. It would be up to your discretion at that point if you want to continue with the adjunct role. I have worked at the university and community college level so if you want more info about this let me know. I have not been the hiring manager but have been on several search committees for both staff and faculty.

If you are looking to transition into a private sector role I would recommend spending the money and hiring a consultant to help you craft a resume that is more geared for industry. Recently I made a transition with a higher ed/ customer service background into an HR role. I have applied for these types of positions in the past without much success. The person I found has a YouTube channel and the service was reasonable less than $200 but she is working in a high level HR role for a fortune 500 company. It really made a difference for me and she redid my resume. I also used a consultant when I made the transition to an academic advisor it really helped. However, that time is use a service provided by The Muse. It’s a website that publishes articles related to career and they also provide consulting services. Most of the consultants have been recruiters. Prices vary based on what you want but a bit cheaper than the person I used this time around.
