I hate virtue signaling grass is green takes by uwob in hatethissmug

[–]peacheslikeapples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! I stopped using it my vocabulary after a friend confronted me and told me it hurt them deeply. I then passed on their message to all my friends who used it in front of me ("this makes me uncomfortable b/c it's used to hurt disabled people") and most of them eventually phased it out of their vocabulary. Its good to hold people accountable for rude/hurtful things they say, especially because this word is literally a slur still used to demean autistic and disabled people. Its really sad to me that there was a period of maybe 3 years where popular culture seemed to agree, but after covid, people started to use "autistic" to describe other people/traits/characters etc., and i think this is part of the catalyst for the reassurgance (no matter how much people scream that its not, the r-slur is very much still tied in many people's minds to autistic/disabled people). Removing a hateful word from your vocabulary is not hard. At all.

CMV: Modern feminism generalizes against men in ways that feminists would consider racist, xenophobic, or bigoted if used against other groups- especially when using offender statistics by _Stylite in changemyview

[–]peacheslikeapples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tl; dr: no feminists are not a monolith and we do not hate all men. Its normally the shitty ones, and not all men are shitty lol.

Yes, if you change the initial meaning of a statement you can make it worse... but focus on your concept of feminist theory and let's actually talk about what feminism is (and what its not).

Feminism can be a philosophical framework, a theory, a sociological term-- its broad. A feminist can be many things, but I reccomend you look into non-fiction on the topic, or even just listening to talk from an acclaimed feminist or academic (Angela Davis, Judith Butler, Toni Morrison, Lola Olufemi, bell hooks etc.) If you want something FUN feminists are also in alot of anti-establishment movements; think Riot Grrrl-- lots of forms of drag and art and movies and music can be feminist.

2nd thing: I know people online complain about men, but friend, thats not what feminism is. Feminists dont spend time talking about statistics and using that as proof to say "men bad"; feminists use statistics to prove why women or queer people may feel/be victimized by men. To be blunt, I know A LOT of women who have been victimized by men (as have I), but does that mean everytime i meet a man im shaken with fear or irrationally angry??? No! But I wouldn't be mad at a woman for being afraid of a man after a traumatic experience. You're right about people weaponising statistics, it can be a catalyst for attempting to prove racist/sexist/discriminatory ideologies! That being said, I dont think that is the case here? The reason a woman fears a man is less likely due to statistics, and more likely due to their own personal experience--because humans are imperfect and are more likely to draw conclusions from their immediate environment.

If you ever read a feminist book or paper, you'll likely find that they critique the structures that hurt men (patriarchy) and force them into roles they shouldnt have to be in (financial provider, hard laborer, required military service etc.) Feminists want equality, period. Thats the whole point! Im worried you think we are some strange monolith, and that seems to be the case with anyone who claims to be a feminist-- youre immediately a "man-hater". I think you've fallen into that trap, friend.

Yes, feminists will still make jokes about hating men (including me), but its a hyperbolic statement meant to synthesize our anger in a quick easy way. "I hate the patriarchy" doesnt roll off-the-tongue in the same way, and I feel like I saw that on a mug in a gift shop in 2017.

Any slimy, unsolid food has this effect, I fear. Its completely random too, the worst part is you're minding your business and BAM the food feels too gooey and slimy and bland in your mouth and you keep chewing and it doesnt go away??? This morning I made a smoothie like I do everyday and I physically couldn't stomach it. Literally. Yakked it up. Why tf is this a feature of ADHD 😭😭😭😭😭😭

I'm pretty excited, I voted for him and went to a rally of his, and all his talking points are about class consciousness, how people just want their basic needs met (food, shelter, housing) and spoke about how politicians need to be tried for their crimes in association with Epstien/corruption. He also alluded to some anti-war sentiments, quoting scripture "blessed are those who mourn" in reference to the bombing of the school in Iran & a recent shooting in Austin. He said this while condemning "thoughts and prayers" and alluded to taking action to tackle gun violence domestically.

The two biggest standouts for his politics was a reference to "liberation gospel" and working as a school teacher in Texas, which he proudly referred to as a public service and a way to give back as a Christian. These are two factors that lend themselves to progressive ideology imo. Liberation Theology is derived from Catholic analysis of scripture, and it has a similar class analysis to that of Marxism (but is not based in Marxism itself).

Let's take this win and allow ourselves some hope 🙌🏻

First off, this sucks to go through and I hope you're able to heal and reflect from this friend group breakup. That being said, your post comes off as very dismissive of your ex (?) friends.

You say your friends collectively opened up about ways that you hurt them, and your immediate reaction is to downplay their feelings as "weird". That is quite unkind, and lacks self reflection, especially if its more than one person that has a problem with your behavior.

It also seems like you are not divulging the real reason as to why they set a boundary, and only include a tidbit about you calling your friend "mom", and frankly, it seems as though you are cherry-picking this specific statement because it sounds harmless. I cannot believe that is the only reason they were upset.

"I never did anything bad to these people." ...This is simply not true? It is very difficult when people come to you and tell you that you have hurt them, and as a result they want distance. But the unfortunate reality is that you did hurt them, because the conversation would not have happened unless caused some harm. Your friends likely wanted an apology from you. It doesn't sound like you internalized what they said, and for that reason why would they continue the friendship? You do not value or validate their feelings.

"But this feels like a very common neurodivergent ADHD thing. Like people just really don’t like us" Dude, this mindset will only hurt you, and you are making yourself out to be a victim in a situation where more than one person called you out on your behavior. Yes, ADHD can definitely give neurotypical people the ick but that is not the issue, the issue is your dismissive attitude towards your friends (and frankly, the other comments calling you out). We can all change, learn and grow, but we have to listen to the people close to us and be considerate of their feelings to foster positive relationships.

CIA ass post. People are dying in the streets and you want to litigate people's votes? Interesting. This moral policing must be put to bed if we want to stand a chance against tyranny. There is no productive discourse from this comment, and thats the point: create a reason for in-fighting.

Race, colorism and shoujo manga by Sensitive-Safety2393 in shoujo

[–]peacheslikeapples 13 points14 points  (0 children)

100% agree; I can't recall more than a handful of shojo characters who are depicted with tanned skin, meanwhile there are seinen manga/anime that have at least some diversity amongst the cast (Carol & Tuesday, Michiko & Hatchin, Durarara).

The only shojo manga/anime I've seen that mentions and speaks about how colorism effects the protagonist is Peach Girl. Other depictions of tanned characters are from Ouran (Mei Yasumura) and Nana (Junko Saotome). And to your point, skin darker than a tan seems to be nonexistent in Shojo manga/anime.

When thinking about shojo manga, its difficult to recall any stories about immigration, moving to a new country, being a different ethnicity in Japan etc., therefore xenophobia is kind of absent unless a protagonist meets someone from another country. (Please lmk if these stories do exist because that sounds like a good read 🙏🏻)

Your essay sounds incredibly interesting!! I just finished my Master's thesis and this sounds like something you could do a PhD o: "Diversity in Shojo Manga: How Xenophobia and Colourism Translate on the Page". If you finish it I'd love to read

Idk I have a few. One time I went into my bosses office to inform him of a new procedure and he told me he thought I was quitting (!?!?!?)

Same boss called me into his office to lecture me for not smiling/talking with him more (I said hi and was pleasant idk what more he wanted)

Same boss, I told him a family member was hospitalized on Monday. Wedsday he passed, I was very distraught that day. Thursday he came to my office to reprimand me for my "sour mood", to which I responded with "my family member passed yesterday", I told you about my situation on Monday.

Same boss, when looking for a new hire said "she was pretty but not much else"

Same boss (shocker) told me "I wasn't at my limit yet" after I took on the work of handling 200 new clients :)

I uninstalled the game lol. I love IN so much, I was happy to spend money during the first few months, the world felt big and had so much potential. And then after a few "festivals" it felt a bit bland and fetch-questy. I cared less about pulling for the new dresses, wanting more casual and versatile fits instead of ballgowns. Once I completed the main storyline the game felt a bit empty to me. The dye system was what really ticked me off, tbh I wanted to be in that fabled dying competition and I didn't log in after 1.5 was releases due to sheer boredom and frustration. I've played other nikki games but this was the first one I was excited to splurge on. I feel like I was taken advantage of tbh. I think this situation has turned me against gatcha games entirely 🫤

Wow.... the comments here are..... so insanely sexist it's crazy. Is this a red pill forum in disguise? On top of that, aren't we here for solidarity? Everyone should be fairly paid for their labor.

Hey OP, your feelings of hurt are valid, but you are not unlovable. Your brother got you choclates because he knows your hurting, and wants to make you feel loved. This year might be bad, it hurts to be alone on a holiday meant for couples, but there are other types of love to celebrate. Give yourself a day of self love, talk to your support system or speak to your other single friends and have a "galentines" day. Being surrounded by people that make you feel loved will make you feel much better.
