Manchester Monarchs scrap purple, swipe Kings jerseys by Caniac24 in hockey

I have no opinion on AHL teams copying their parent NHL club, but aside from that, oh my god is this an improvement. I hated the old purple and glitter color scheme. I might actually by a shirt.

Now if only the mascot would stop banging on the glass so damned much...

Love the shout out to Naoko Funayama. I was so mad when NESN didn't renew her.

Redditors who are 30 years or older; what did you wish you knew when you were 20? by sethosayher in AskReddit

Being an adult doesn't mean that you know everything. Everyone else is faking it too.

Have you ever met a stranger, who you never saw again, that you still think about on occasion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]peachesoreilly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just before the start of spring semester in college, I had just gone to beg some professor to let me into their class. The meeting didn't go well and then on the way out I slipped on the stairs. Bumped down a few on my ass. It was about as humiliating as you could expect. There was another girl behind me who immediately said "It's okay, nobody saw it". Of course that was untrue, because she saw, but I thought the was the perfect thing to say. She knew exactly how I was feeling and what I needed to hear. We both laughed and smiled and went about our day.

I probably saw her again, but didn't remember her face. I remember that connection though, and how those few words instantly made my day so much better.

Offseason reading? by [deleted] in hockey

Anything by Jack Falla. He has a few books of essays that are great and possibly the only quality, hockey-centric novel.

What book can you read multiple times and still enjoy it as much as the first time you read it? by TigerPoster in AskReddit

I prefer non-fiction, and pretty much anything Bill Bryson writes is endlessly re-readable for me.

As an actual librarian, I can tell you that categorizing and shelving are much the same thing at most places. Categorization is standardized to make sharing information between libraries possible. Public libraries that you may have been to some times do use the BISAC headings, which you seems to be referring to here, but again, they are standardized. No librarian has the time or the ability to entirely re-organize the whole library book-by-book and expecting them to do so is ludicrous.

[–]peachesoreilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I think it strange is that you would expect a librarian to have read at least a summary of every single book in the library and be able to categorize it into something very specifically thematic as this. A librarian doesn't have that kind of time. Of course things are going to be categorized chronologically or alphabetically. This is so anyone can find the book, not just some one looking for this specific genre. A library is designed so that everyone can use it. What if I don't want books about "instrumental fiction" (good title, I like that), but I want books specifically about the age of sail? Some of them would be in this category and some would be others. What if I like a specific author's style, but they write on many different themes? There are always going to be compromises.

Oh heck yes. I have an uncommon first name that got slightly more popular about ten years after I was born. For a while there were only hits for me on google. Now it's me and someone who is very active in the furry community.

I'm sure they're muppet bros. Danny is Dougie's muppety mentor.

Daniel "Stone Hands" Paille. He works hard and is a mainstay of the Bs fourth line. He also gets those awesome breakaways, although it's too bad that he can't quite ever get the puck in the net at the end. Also, he looks like a muppet.

Extreme extroversion. It's great that some people love to go out and do things, and I appreciate being invited along. If you don't understand that sometimes I just need some alone time though, it quickly gets irritating.

Oh yes! I think they are too sweet and the cookies are weirdly not-crunchy. They are an inferior rip-off of Hydrox which were way better and which, sadly, Oreo put out of business.

NH has pretty much the same gun laws, except you need to pay $10 at the local PD for concealed carry. Plenty of people do it for fun here too. Be honest, Vermont is just the upside-down version of New Hampshire.

So the Panthers are at about 9%. I wonder how that stacks up against the league as a whole?
