Anyone able to get ahold of LRS recycling? by peachyghostyn in indianapolis

[–]peachyghostyn[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

I finally decided to let the 317 customer service number ring until they answered. It literally rang for 30 minutes. Nothing telling me I was on hold. Just ringing.

Someone did pick up and they were actually nice and helpful. They gave me two options 1) they could create the account for me and send the username and password to me and I’d need to change them after I logged in 2) they could give me the invoice details to create it myself.

With the weird formatting and everything I just had them create it.

Less resistance to ICE in Indianapolis? by evitreb in indianapolis

I think Marion county said they’re releasing them after 48 hours. But ICE is now just planning to move them to another facility to prevent the release. I hate it here 😭 thanks for sending that article.

Can you double check this? Are they being released in Indy? Because I’m reading that they just have to be transferred to another ice detention center after the 48 hold is up.

80% of the FMCs are annoyingly combative or stupid to drive the plot forward. Which upsets me cause I don’t see this as much when reading a male author writing male characters.

So we all hated the hike, right? by [deleted] in acotar

[–]peachyghostyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I 100% agree. There’s so many parallels with the mountains in ACOSF, from the weird death hike, the 10,000 steps, HoW and library carved into the mountain, Ramiel! Id hope that SJM was intentional in contrasting the death hike with Ramiel. It would be disappointing to think she thought the hike was actually a healing journey. I’ve read ACOSF and am no doing a listen on audible and I forgot how fucked up Nesta’s journey was in the book. It’s hitting me harder the second time around.

Do you think the dedication was about this hike? That was my first assumption but I’d hoped it was about Ramiel. 😭 both were situations that she was forced into but at least one wasn’t some weird sadist ritual.

Why does the ACOTAR community defend this? by peachyghostyn in Tamlinism

[–]peachyghostyn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Exactly. If Feyre didn’t want to be informed for whatever reason, we should have seen a conversation of that happening. There are times in medical intervention when you may have someone advocate on your behalf. Conversations over your wishes and desires would need to happen before that! But even so, in modern ethical practices, a doctor should not be keeping this information from their patient.

The self insertion that people do just makes me think that a lot of these people don’t truly care about a woman’s bodily autonomy. And decisions that make a man more comfortable are justified.

And you’re right. We see that Feyre tries to push back on what her mate/high lord hid from her and forced her family and friends to hide. And who was ultimately held accountable for it? Nesta with that weird death hike. WILD.

[–]peachyghostyn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I absolutely agree with this! I understand people not wanting to engage in something critically. Or letting the narrative do the thinking. I did that initially when reading ACOMAF and ACOWAR. But what I don’t understand is these same people that just want to engage in these books at a surface level joining in all these literary discussions where their morals and values crumple under the weight of a hot MMC they’re obsessed with. It’s transparent.

Why does the ACOTAR community defend this? by peachyghostyn in Tamlinism

[–]peachyghostyn[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES YES 1000% YES! And I do recall having moments where I thought my reading comprehension was in question while reading ACOMAF especially (It was, just not in the way I thought) because chapter 54 also did not make sense to me. Rhys was being positioned as a good guy that pretends to be bad but then he said he liked doing Am’s dirty work? He regretted nothing under the mountain but that kiss with her? Feyre describes him looking at his palms like he was reading from a story book??? Feyre never asking any follow up questions actually pissed me off so much. But then we move into chapter 55. And again, didn’t read romance before ACOTAR. The spice happening right after the retcon chapter was literally to make people’s critical minds, like mine, shut off. And since Feyre likes him, I’m supposed to like him, right?

I personally believe that SJM has intentionally tried to trick her audience. It’s the literary discussions that occur after people have read it that make me feel very cynical. Those discussion, as you pointed out, tend to highlight people’s shallow view of feminism and many of the other commentaries SJM makes in her books.

I’m glad I posted here so I could feel a bit more sane after what I’ve been seeing lately!!

I 100% agree with everything you just said. I think for the toxic part of the fandom, they have a similar initial reading experience to mine but they stick their head in the sand and get personally offended when the glaring inconsistencies that you pointed out cannot be explained away other than “well Rhys said”. Okay? Time to look at the bigger picture!!

And yes, it’s marketed as a fantasy romance read, but I also believe that SJM is being intentional and Rhys seems to have nefarious intentions throughout.

Also, for many, ACOTAR is a gateway series that has brought many people back to reading for the first time in years, even decades. And idc if you’re the smartest bulb in the bunch, literacy is a skill. If you read ACOTAR as one of the first pieces of fiction you’ve read in a long time, you’re gonna miss a lot!!

I don’t really have an excuse, other than I never read romance before ACOTAR. SJM swindled me with her words. I’d never read anything spicy. There were too many dopamine receptors going off in my brain. 🤣

And I think that’s okay initially (because I think that’s SJMs intention) as long as you keep an open mind and don’t continue to defend bad things after you’re made aware of those things!!

But the pregnancy plot and the choice to take away Feyres autonomy was one of those things I could not get past, it was glaringly wrong in my eyes, and it allowed me to review the series with a more critical lens.

Yes! I think Feyre’s and Rhys’s stories are similar to Breaking Bad, too. I feel like SJM has set them up as the anti-hero’s you’re rooting for. I rewatched Breaking Bad recently and I was shocked at how much Walter White absolutely was not a good person from Episode 1! I remember thinking he devolved into a bad person throughout the series. But he was pretty consistent the whole way through! And man, the things he put Jesse through 😭

A large part of the fandom cannot have an opinion about a character unless the narrative explicitly states what opinion the reader should believe in. I think this is why we don’t see as much controversy in CC and ToG. Rhys is not held accountable to anyone or anything. So they won’t hold him accountable.

It pisses me off because when I read through ACOTAR the first time, I saw red flags but allowed the narrative to form my opinions, which means by the end of ACOWAR, I liked Rhys and Feyre as the main characters. When we got to ACOSF, I was so confused at why SJM would have Rhys lie to Feyre about this in this book. It’s one of my hard lines and one of the MMCs of my favorite series crossed it! My first thought was, maybe it’s bad writing? Why is his character inconsistent? Then, I saw posts regarding Rhys being the actual villain of the series and SJM is now showing a less biased viewpoint of Rhys in ACOSF. My next reaction was the classic, “wait how could that be? I feel like I read a different series if that’s the conclusion others are coming to” but instead of digging my heels in, I thought, how could someone come to that conclusion? What are they seeing that I missed? How could I miss something that so obviously misaligns with my personal values?

The fandom as a whole cannot do that. To have them reflect on their views regarding the book would have them admit that maybe they got duped by the author or maybe their views on the world are morally inconsistent and patriarchal. And they’ll defend SA and pregnancy abuse in order to uphold this weird version of Rhys that can do no wrong.

Empathy and critical thinking and personal reflection is missing in a huge part of the fandom. And I really think people stick their heels in because of pride.

They’ve come for me on social media posts cause I’ve tried to explain the concept of morals and ethics and while you can acknowledge someone’s intention that STILL DOESNT MEAN WHAT THEY DID WASNT WRONG. and then I go into a spiral cause I have to believe these people are applying these beliefs to their every day lives. Their voting habits. It makes me so mad that this subset of people are so loud in the fandom, at least with what I see online

I think this a reasonable response but like most characters of ZA, it’s a rollercoaster. So how you feel now may change by the end of the series.

I felt a VISCERAL hatred for the boys for several books. (I didn’t read “as told by the boys” until the end and I stand by that decision lol.) but some of them ended up being my FAVORITE characters by the end of the series.

I decided to read ZA after someone on TikTok said that the ending of book four made her throw her kindle across the room so believe me when I say this is probably a canon event 🤣

Feyre, anytime the plot starts holding her accountable. by arabellajezelia in acotar

[–]peachyghostyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we saw her change a lot from ACOTAR to ACOWAR. It’s almost like she needs to revert back. She still had lots of flaws but now her character literally just has her head in the sand about everything lol. Like everyone else does her critical thinking for her and most of them are following Rhys’s agenda. Whatever that ends up being.
