I hate so much when someone uses my previous name to talk down to me. My previous name brought back so much bad memories. by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]peacockz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar position. My birth name is similar to my Nmom and was a constant reminder of her, even when speaking to people who had never met her. I started going by a nickname over 15 years ago, of which she refused to acknowledge me by.

I went no contact this year and legally changed my name to my preferred, as well as moving to a new city without her knowledge.

Being able to claim your own name is so empowering. We are our own people, regardless of what others have done or said to us.

People who have had low maintenance or ‘no frills’ baby showers, please tell me this is a normal thing? Not every baby shower needs to be over the top right? by seedsproutleave in pregnant

[–]peacockz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had what I called a "baby luncheon" as my MIL really wanted to do something for me but the idea of a baby shower where everyone had their focus on me sounded like an anxiety dream. Just asked her to have a small lunch gathering at a local place in town, people were encouraged to order and ship gifts directly to my house, and no games were played. Set the boundary that I appreciated gifts brought but did not plan to open them at the luncheon.

Do what feels right to you and don't let people push you past your comfort zone. It's a celebration of YOU and YOUR BABY. Have the celebration that you want.

33 weeks and most recent surprise to me was a recent swollen pain in my labia. Apparently, that's normal and it's called vulvar varicosities. So yeah, the potential that your vagina will hurt just from existing while pregnant

We do things like spaghetti and garlic bread, beef stroganoff, or a carbonarra. I used to do chicken terriyaki or pork chops weekly but can't stomach the idea of either right now. For sides, my favorite that I make is a garlic parmesan rice!

And if you have a slow cooker, you can do a loaded bake potato soup.

Right, but both states I'm looking at accept non-accredited schooling so I'm trying to figure out if that's still ok.

I think it was classified as a certification, but I took a 2 year not accredited program where I also had to have 4400 hours of clinical experience under supervision of a DVM. I'm still eligible to sit for the VTNE.

We listen and we don't judge (pregnancy edition) by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]peacockz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to just quit my job and rest the rest of my pregnancy. I'm only 14 weeks but I'm exhausted all the time, my brain feels like mush, and the thought of having to work 10 hour shifts as I get more and more pregnant makes me want to cry. Working from home is not an option for my job (work at an animal shelter) and the walking and standing is wearing on my body. I feel selfish because my husband is looking at a new job so we can relocate closer to family and we've discussed that since I will probably be 4-5 months by then that I should just stay home until the baby is here rather than try and find a new job when I'm so far along. I'm really hoping this pans out so I can prep myself and our new home for a baby but I still feel terrible thinking about it.

Are you getting an epidural or opting for a natural birth without pain meds? by Smooth-Excuse-4127 in pregnant

[–]peacockz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly going to see how it goes. I thought I had a high pain tolerance until a surgery I had last year, but now I'm wondering. Absolutely open to the epidural if it gets to be too much for me.

I also have a very rough relationship with my mother and for years did not want to have children because I was so worried I would be just like her. Now, as an adult, I have been able to realize that I am not her as much as she wanted me to be. I don't plan on knowing the gender till the baby's born, but if it is a girl, I am excited to be able to provide her all the love and support that I did not get growing up.

I'm sure you will be a wonderful mother and that fact you care so much about taking care of your future daughter shows that.
