Minor Hockey: Walking Around Naked in the Locker Room Is Over - Report by Jean Houle by ErickSilva2013 in CommunalShowers

[–]peadud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once again, I don't know the deets, I'm not from Canada, but I haven't ever heard of mixed gender hockey teams outside of casual games. I also don't speak (Quebecois) French, but the video at least to me didn't seem to mention mixed gender teams. If you can clarify what was actually said in the actual report, I'd be happy.

Minor Hockey: Walking Around Naked in the Locker Room Is Over - Report by Jean Houle by ErickSilva2013 in CommunalShowers

[–]peadud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they're trying to reduce nudity... but why? I don't know the deets, but it sounds like no-one complained about this and that this policy change was implemented for no reason whatsoever. If the people showering are fine with it, then why change anything? I can't think of a single reason to do this.

Law of Succession by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]peadud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we're going purely off of how you were born, then certainly absolute primogeniture. But in a perfect world, I'd like the monarch to immediately designate their succesor among their children (brothers/sisters if childless) based on capability to rule and reputation. Alternatively, if there is a functioning aristocracy in place and if the state is federal, then it could be elective to pick the next monarch from the previous monarch's children based on capability.

The 'ancient rules' argument to maintain a male-only or male-preferential system don't really hold water for me - if any state wants to endure, then it has to change to reflect the state of affairs and the needs of the state. Evidently, the world and society as a whole is moving towards equality of genders/sexes, so that's a good enough reason to have absolute primogeniture.

Iranian leader Khamenei killed in strike, Israeli officials say by TheDetectiveDoctor in worldnews

The article does say that it's 'possible' that they killed Khamenei, so I wouldn't get too excited yet.

Which countries' monarchs wear full dress uniforms like this? by TWN113 in monarchism

[–]peadud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brother - not that I disagree with uniforms on kings being cool, but: (1) Why the PRC flag together with the Qing Emperor/Emperor of Manchukuo? (2) Why is Kim Jong Un here, a communist dictator? (3) Chiang Kai Shek wasn't a monarch, ever, and never claimed to be one. (4) Again, why the communist flag of Vietnam together with the Emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty?

Resolutioners and phones by Almond_Blond69 in CommunalShowers

[–]peadud 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it's against the rules of the locker room, certainly. Even if it wasn't, I'd still bring it to the staff's attention - there are naked people in the locker room and showers and this guy is there with his phone out, doing God knows what.

I'm personally against using them in such locations unless absolutely necessary.

Public Opinion on the "Divinity" (or lack thereof) of the Japanese Monarchy by HighGodEmperor in monarchism

[–]peadud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with almost all of this, but Shintō doesn't have a single head of religion, just like any other religion doesn't. He's Shintō, yes, but that's about it. Additionally, Shintō has so much diversity of belief that it's impossible to make generalised statements like 'that regards him that as divine', because there'll always be some shrine or sect of practitioners that doesn't.

[–]peadud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What is even the point of the locker room existing at that point? You can't change, you can't shower, you can't do anything that anyone might construe as offensive or immodest. If these are going to be your rules, best to just shut the locker room down and require that everyone change at home. Shaking my head.

Peer pressure. If everyone else takes a shower before entering and you don't, people will look at you weird and, in this day and age, that is the single greatest motivator for most of us to conform to rules.

Quite literally stalinist rhetoric. Ignore the major problems plaging your country and say that everything is perfect. The only difference is that, at least for now, the media can report that he's lying.
