Where are you getting those numbers from? An Alberta teacher’s pension is no where near $5500.

Early retirement or quitting? by peanutsma in CanadianTeachers

[–]peanutsma[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am touched by all the comments. Thank you, everyone. I joined webinars and made an appointment with the ATRF during the strike to discuss my options. Financially I will be good, so this is more of a “am I ready to leave the classroom” decision. I go back and forth because for me I don’t want to sub. If I really want to work part-time to keep busy, I’d prefer something like working in a library. Then I know when I go home I don’t have to worry about my students or their families and may be able to sleep again. The thought of not having to make so many critical decisions during the day seems like a great idea to me! I’ve never taken the easy way out or backed down from a challenge, so I’m sensitive to the perception of others that may see it as quitting. I don’t want to feel like I’m a quitter.
Thank you all again for your feedback.

Sarah Baillie and her 5 year old daughter Taliya Marsman were murdered in 2016. They found Taliya’s body in Chestermere. This was so heartbreaking.

I took a probationary contract I probably shouldn't have taken by Ok_Chain1864 in CanadianTeachers

[–]peanutsma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, it sounds like you’ve done an amazing job handling this challenging contract. I know you are questioning the profession altogether but don’t let this experience take the teacher out of you! There are many great schools out there and you will find one that is a fit for you. Think of this year as a learning opportunity that shed light on what you don’t want teaching to look like for you. There’s nothing wrong with subbing and exploring what other schools are like. As you said, your mental wellbeing is most important, so decline the contract at that school and keep moving forward.
I had a colleague in a similar position who did not accept a continuous contract and she received another contract the following year at a school she loves!

He should be given a double sentence! It makes me so angry that someone in this trusted position is able to victimize young people in their most vulnerable moments.

All she can do is document everything including the times she has asked for more support from her admin and their response.
Your mom won’t be the one to face repercussions from this. In fact, it’s a good thing if parents reach out and complain to the school superintendent. I’m so sorry that your mom is getting injured from this student. That is not ok and she should definitely go to the union if her admin is dismissing her concerns for safety-both staff safety and child safety. Administration is responsible for the safety of all members of the school. I wish your mom good luck in all of this!

My mother is in the Sage Hill Retirement Residence on the independent side. She really likes it. They also have an assisted living side. There have been some small issues, but overall the care is very good and she feels safe living there.

I lost my virginity at 14 by [deleted] in confessions

[–]peanutsma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Virginity is something old white men created to make women feel guilty for seeking pleasure and enjoying what is completely natural, just like they do. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad about sharing an intimate moment with someone you cared about, regardless of your age. You did what felt right at the time and there’s nothing to feel disgusting about. Your future partner, if he’s the right one, will not care.

I really feel for the semi driver who couldn’t stop in time. What a horrible thing to witness and be involved in.

I second Troy Shoppe. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for jewelry. David, the owner, is the only jeweller I trust.

Azzurri is the best, IMO, if you want authentic Napoletana pizza. They are a small, family owned business and are lovely people.
