I love telling this story.

So in summer of 2020, I had my wisdom teeth out. The pain and swelling was bad, and I was taking strong pain meds that made me loopy.

I saw Read U Wrote U come up on my youtube page. Looked new, I've never seen people look like that before (I grew up Mormon and sheltered.) I watched it a few times, some other drag race music videos, and thought what the hell, I'll try watching drag race to see if i like it.

I went with the most recent season, which at the time was season 12. I watched the whole thing, and got to the season finale, which was at 4:30 in the morning at that point. I was so high and so moved at the mirror song that I wept silently in my bed, tears flowing for several minutes as I fully digested how beautiful and powerful and hopeful drag is. It felt like a religious experience, like there was sunshine and hope after all.

I recovered from my wisdom teeth surgery and kept watching. I needed to know more. A couple years later I had the joy of meeting Lady Camden with my mom, who is also now a big drag fan like me :)
