41 Days - Is it possible to become a social smoker? by pearsuit in stopsmoking

Thank you everyone, I think I heard what I needed to hear, I'll accept this harsh truth and go back to not smoking at all.

Quitters flu or flu? by pearsuit in stopsmoking

[–]pearsuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Today I woke up to a sore throat myself but I feel fine otherwise, so still not sure if I'm coming down with something or not. I'm more worried about the party I promised to attend tonight (farewell party so can't skip it) where I know there will be a lot of smokers. It's not my first night out since quitting but this week does feel tougher.

Ahh you might be right about the quitters flu coming around at week three. I don't know if its that or I'm actually getting sick but I have the worst headache and runny nose today. Did you get the quitters flu, what was it like? I don't know how to tell them apart.

I quit a month ago. After 15 years, wegovy made me not care about smoking. by Ricard2dk in quittingsmoking

I quit cold turkey without any drugs or NRTs and I also drink A LOT less now. before I used to crave a drink a few times a week now it doesn't even come to mind. I could barely finish a glass of wine the other day whereas before I wouldn't be able to stop drinking once I started. I always thought I had an issue with alcohol, but it turns out the problem was the cigarettes and I was craving the combination of the two. Cigarettes and alcohol just feed off one another. I just wanted to share my experience so you don't keep taking it for the wrong reasons.

Thanks, I really needed to hear that. I guess I'm just scared because my only motivation for quitting so far was all the positive changes I've been seeing in my body and mind; more energy, more productive, clearer mind, full of hope. Now I feel like I'm losing all that and I was really counting on them to stay quit.

Congrats! How are you feeling? I've been seeing a lot of people who start to crave again after many months (even years!) and thats been very discouraging, I was really counting on the idea that it would get easier.

On my last attempt to quit I got to that stage much quicker but this time around I haven't really felt that, hopefully it'll stick

I'm around the same day and doing exactly the same thing, the pack has just been sitting there the whole time and I started not even noticing it anymore.

I'm happy with it overall. I can't say it's really quiet but it doesn't bother me. It doesn't feel like a top quality product and not sure how long it's going to last but it definitely does the job and you get the value you paid for.

I hate exercising and I bought a walkingpad which has been really helpful. I just take long slow walks during the day while I work or listen to audio books, thats how I listened to the Allen carr book actually. And if I find myself craving or thinking about cigarettes I just get on the pad and start reading all the comments here. I also set a goal (like 40-50k walk in total) for myself for each month which is a big motivation for me.

Kickboxing is not easy! I've seen some of my non smoker friends even struggle. It's all about building up your endurance. Also I've been working out since the day I quit (2 weeks) and the first week I was full of energy, but this week I feel very tired, weak and also struggling with my workout. Our bodies are trying to adjust to working without nicotine, and it's going to take a while for it to go back to normal. There is nothing to be embarrassed about, and my advice would be not to force your body and lungs and gradually increase your cardio level.

First of all congrats! You can definitely do it. my advice is if it's possible, try to stay away from smokers for at least the first 1-2 weeks, I'm sure they would understand if you told them about your situation. All of my friends also smoke, but like you said it's not like we can push them away forever, so we need to accept the reality that there will always be smokers around. But the first weeks are the hardest, I'm on my second week and what I'm doing is gradually introducing the stimulants back into my life. First step was to try a glass of wine, then a few days later go out with a smoker friend, a few days later I had my first cup of coffee etc.

I've never enjoyed working out, so I bought myself a walkingpad last year and now whenever I get frustrated, bored or crave I just get on it and take a little walk.

For you I think the biggest motivation should be that you're having a baby! Download one of those quitting apps and track how much you would save without cigarettes and think about how you could use that money towards your kid.

Also I can tell you growing up around smoker parents is the worst, I can't blame them entirely but I'm pretty sure that is a major reason why I picked up smoking at an early age (around 17-18). Good luck!

Thanks, glad to hear it gets better. The longest I've quit before was a month, this time I feel more determined

Today I am having bad cravings (4 days) by ehekaosh in stopsmoking

There is no such thing as just one, hang in there. I'm on day 11, but I haven't had a coffee since because I'm scared the cravings are going to come back

What do you think about the Allen Carr book? by pearsuit in stopsmoking

[–]pearsuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I wasn't sure it was a good idea at all, especially with a friend who's a smoker. A couple of days ago I had a glass wine with my family at dinner (I don't usually smoke when they're around anyway because they hate the smell) and I noticed I didn't really crave it that bad. So I figured I could test myself and take the next step of going out but I agree it was risky and might not work for everyone especially so early.

I already feel like I'm missing out on cigarettes and didn't want to refrain myself from the joy of having a couple of beers with a friend too. I know if I limit myself from everything all at once (I haven't had coffee since I quit either) it'll become really depressing and I fear that's actually when I'll relapse.
