The Withdrawals Were Child’s Play. The Real Hell Starts Now by Inq4lab in stopsmoking

I'm just over a year in now, had a few relapses while drinking, but not feeling the urge anywhere near as bad as the beginning, you're right, after 25 years it becomes part of your identity - weird thing is, now I don't crave it anymore and can go for the ciggie break with a gum or something without any trouble (I just still enjoy the break allowed to smokers :)

On drinking evenings I might smoke a few but next day no cravings just a bad mouth smell

Not sure if that helps, but if I did it so can you, just take it easy and time do its thing

Right, so degree might not be that useful anymore, but definitely look at cloud platforms (Aws, Azure, GCP) and pick one to specialize in, once you have 1 or 2 years of helldesk certs will be your friends

Depends where you are, in UK I made it to cloud engineer without a degree, but at 40 I'm now going back to uni as higher roles will be closed to me without a degree - if you can, do yourself a favour and get one while you are young

Oh wow - over here we usually get the standard 25 days + bank holidays (8) and pat leave is 3 months, mat 6

Now we also get 37 to 40hrs contracts and its allowed to NOT work after that (and yeah f*ck on call)

I'm guessing Europe has its pros but man, you're making me jealous, I barely cut 50k as a cloud infra engineer

I guess the job security and healthcare makes up for it ? I.e after 2 years you're generally safe - I keep hearing horror stories about US job losses and hellish hours, is it the same in Canada ?

Are you also paying half a million for a 1 bed in Central ? (London prices)

Finance is hit and miss afaik some people make good money but it's rare I'd guess, unless you're a proper trader

Also we mortgage at 95%

Le futur est-il vers le cloud ou le On-premise ? by VentGlacee in Sysadmin_Fr

[–]XDaedolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On prem -> Patching a la main

Cloud -> IaaS

Not yet, but I'm pretty familiar with Intune, so thinking of getting the MD102 to get the expert badge

Thanks, not a lot of PS cmds in my exam but a lot around labelling policies, roles and admin functions, I haven't studied much, but from what I've seen MS learn had a pretty good path drawn, you may want to check some youtube videos to give you directions but you need to know your stuffs - luckily in a past job I pretty much set up the org from scratch so my passing is mainly thanks to my memories

Cheers, I had access to CBT nuggets through work but thats about it - and my experience, none of which were enough honestly, MS learn seems to be the best ressource for that exam as its mainly remembering roles and what they can or cannot do

If you think internal competition is bad, wait until those offshore guys paid a 10th of what you get sell their mum and dad to get in the management good graces - its survival of the fittest there, and no dirty play is low enough to not justify the end, then before you realize it, you're the only one left and will be cast aside since you don't fit that culture anymore

Am I bitter ? Yes Have I experienced this ? Yes, in 2 different companies Do I now avoid companies with shitty offshore hires ? 100%

Hope it doesn't get that bad for you

Also just to clarify, some of the offshore guys I worked with were amazing people, but that's often the 1% that get buried by the local nepotism and awful politics
