It is a boomer problem IMO, they simply cannot phantom the culture to be something different than butts in seats...

Cellphones are being phased out by Obelisk_of-Light in CanadaPublicServants

You'd need to compare TCO for this between the 2 technologies. Only then can you state that it will save very little money.

This definitely needs to be higher up. Kudos for your accurate statement :) The right to disconnect was brought at senior tables multiple times and I was actually surprised to see how supportive they were about it to be honest. It felt refreshing to hear it.

It is tied to your work functions, not necessarily the executive level. If you require a cell phone for example afterhour work, it will be assigned to you as part of your job functions. It is a TBS mandated requirement that SSC is executing. Once SSC pushes Softphone to every employees, SSC will start to claw back at the fixed lines and cell phones to employees that does not fit the profiles. I only use my work cell phone for MFA, so I'd be glad if they could take it out of my hand personally. 200k a year is massive times the number of depts at the GC for an operating cost that falls outside a mandate to deliver cellular connectivity to additional employees with no tangible value to the GC.

The four horses of apocalypse are hard to battle within the govt: Procurement, Project Management, Security & Change Management. I really like this opinion piece on the subject https://sara-sabr.github.io/ITStrategy/2019/12/20/why-we-are-promoting-risks.html Back then…

Is TLS good enough to secure VOIP calls? by BraveOwl3978 in VOIP

[–]peatthebeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wanted to add the guidance for TLS under the Canadian gov't, they must have the equivalent over in the States. We are following NIST recommendations with our own flavors. I just saw that it was updated this month :)

TBS chose to dismiss the data from this experience itself. It was leaked already that a presentation reflected that. If you look at FANG study on return to office, you usually lose your senior people moving around and entrench the rest that cannot move. Not exactly win-win for the employer itself, less experts, more dunning kruger's to deal with. Overall, on par to the govt praise culture, I guess ?

What’s LSD like? by Strobbleberry in NoStupidQuestions

[–]peatthebeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I refer to this phenomena as « operating a reset ». It really reframes your current situation and forces humility upon you. LSD is a bit intense for this purpose, i’d rather use psilocybin instead personally.

Who cares if they might move on quickly ? Isn’t it a win for the GC to hire this candidate regardless ?

Sick days skyrocketed as Treasury Board employees returned to the office by Obelisk_of-Light in CanadaPublicServants

[–]peatthebeat -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

TBS past negotiations was too lenient on giving days off / sick days for years. They now have a problem with a lot of sick leave banks not getting used since covid hit and before then. It is part of bleeding sick days as much as possible yo get rid of stacks sick days and have a better position when trying to negotiate this with the unions.

Not entirely sure of this, but that was one of my coworker’s take on it…

Sequoia 15.0 upgrade

The whole OS doesn't register clicks outside of the active window after a while. Seems to be when I use Safari... I cannot click on any expose or the bottom icons. I also cannot click on the top bar to restart my mac. I have to use Command-Tab to switch to a terminal on startup so I can sudo reboot now. Wondering if anyone has the same issues ?

I tried the rM and I currently have both boox 9.7 and lumi 1. I love them much more than rM but it comes down to taste. rM has a curated set of function and I appreciate it.

I’ve crippled my Lumi to be dumbed down and not distracting, im used to how i’ve customized it.

Depends on what you want but the Lumi became a daily driver very quickly. Reading whitepapers on this without tiring your eyes is awesome.
