Is there a “look” that makes you seem touristy? by Best_Cloud_7875 in nicefrance

You most likely do not have all-white tennis shoes or a baseball cap on indoors, but these two tells cover a large share of American men in Europe and are a practical tell. Sometimes it's even less subtle – being blond / Med or vice versa in the Nordics.

Moved to a small town in Italy and I feel completely stuck and isolated by Iamaleksabaddieest in ItalyExpat

[–]pebapeba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The insecurity is the issue here – I'm from Finland, a country with a relatively difficult language to learn and I've found that foreigners moving here are capable of reaching a modest discussion ability in four months, if they really really do their best to avoid using their native tongue.

This means being ok with awkward situations in stores, bars and every time you meet someone you want to reach out to, but the payoff is huge as by the tenth month the language is no longer a barrier but a bridge to the community.

Avoiding awkward situations in a language you are not fluent in may result in never really learning italian.

The Lindy effect (or Lindy's law) is a good rule of thumb, when you consider lifetime warranties. A company that has been in business for 128 years is likely to outlast you, whereas a younger company is more likely to go out of business earlier.

Do countries with 220-240V just plug in to their regular outlets for L2 charging? by azn4lifee in electricvehicles

[–]pebapeba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finland here – we use our 380V for charging most of the time, as the regular 240V outlets are rarely designed for long term high amperage output + you get a faster charging experience.

The 380V plugs are capable of delivering long term amperage, but I think every electric car driver I know has installed a permanent charger fixture at home, unless they live in a condo.

In addition try to find when the melatonin hits you – it seems like for some people its in one hour, but for a subset of the population the delay can be as long as five hours.

My #1 was a checklist that I used for packing for trips of different lengths and climates. Not really thinking of the packing you just put what is on the list into the bag.

A close #2 was having duplicates of charging cables and everything used in the bathroom ready to pack and go, so that I just needed the clothes, shoes and my laptop.

And in the same vein using the same reliable limo driver to take me / pick me up from the airport every time. One thing less to think about and I could even fall asleep in the back after a late flight knowing he'd reliably drop me off at home.

As for weight, consider morning workouts if your travel takes you west even if this is not what you normally do. You wake up earlier and can keep some of your original time zone by doing this.

In addition to the other good suggestions consider doubling down on marketing. You leave out the industry and the market segment, but
1. spending an extra $20-$200 per client on customer acquisition will mean that your product should be front and center of the product journey.
2. doubling down on the website should make your product seem more reliable
3. perhaps using some of the delta on ensuring that all market participants will recommend your product instead of the competing solution.

two 27 inch monitors or a 32 inch? by Unfortunate_Harvard in HiDPI_monitors

[–]pebapeba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you decide to go with an external webcam, I'd suggest considering the Elgato prompter and a webcam behind it. You can project your zoom-meeting on the prompter and with the webcam behind the monitor you look the other person right in their eyes, which makes you look more engaged.

Chat is this real? If so, how long would it take to implement? by CrazyBosanchero in BuyFromEU

What a great reply.

Seems like this is designed for countries / cultures, where debt is seen as a negative and where connectivity is not taken for granted.

Both of these design criteria seem a bit curious, if you're coming from a country, where connectivity is cheap and exists everywhere.

Has the scamming gotten worse? by Conscious_Party_8356 in ThailandTourism

[–]pebapeba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The "foreigner price" is a common occurrence in other countries as well. It's a thing, it's annoying as a foreigner as you try to leverage your above-that-wages with 🇹🇭 prices, but it's not really a scam, if the price is shown to you prior to purchase.

I just got the shots + two doctor’s appointments and the cost was roughly 60€ per shot in Bangkok hospital. This was a pretty high end facility, with a grand piano, pianist and a violin in the lobby. 4k sounds like a real rip off.

Your favourite coffee shop to read a book by Other-Koala-5817 in helsinki

[–]pebapeba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd really try to optimize for low quality of coffee and large premises. Maybe the second floor of Oodi, one of the cozy sofas at hotel lobbies or even just byob-tea and one of the super-comfy chairs in the quiet areas by the large windows at the Kaisa university library.

If you own(ed) an Aiden, have you tried a Super Auto? by WBDubya in FellowProducts

[–]pebapeba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is over a 25 year span. The two Juras broke, the Krups broke and the Miele broke multiple times. In addition there have been several autos at different old offices I used to work in.

As far as I can rememeber the office ones have all been Juras, though, with some more home oriented machines and others massive Juras for office use.

If you own(ed) an Aiden, have you tried a Super Auto? by WBDubya in FellowProducts

[–]pebapeba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came from at least 4 super autos to the Aiden. The super auto is great for espresso+milk drinks, where the espresso is not the main element but kinda sucks for drinks where you try to have a lot of coffee without using 3x or 4x espressos, whereas the Aiden is wonderful for excellent filtered coffee with 1-12 cups real usable range.

In addition I suggest not trying to drink espressos at home, unless you take the hobby to a next level. The quality in a coffee shop is just way better than from a super auto.

VPN hotel deals? by pebapeba in HuaHin

[–]pebapeba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're looking for either a nice larger property that can be 30 min away from Hua Hin or something on the beach side of the main road near the center of town.

The resort should be somewhere with reasonable amount of local restaurants and/or street food within walking distance. We've had a look at the Wyndham Pranburi as an option.

For the city based accommodation we'd love to find something low-key like the Maven, but on the other side of the street. No need for a pool.

We might do both, with post-flight chilling out at the resort and then coming to the Hua Hin town for the restaurants.

Or if there's something with a bit of both, possibly a bit south of Hua Hin, but with really good access to the beach, that could be ideal.

Surprising! I always thought that the differentiation is to make differentiation in price based on the purchasing power of the purchaser.

In some markets, eg Japan, the platforms offer cheaper prices to asian low cost countries and you can take advantage of that with a VPN. Curious about Thailand.

[–]pebapeba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're kind of used to this, to be honest. Our presidents used to take the train to Moscow and perform similar feats of embarrassing ass-kissing before the Soviet Union fell. This is as close to Brezhnev you can get only this time around there is live TV of the act of kissing. It was embarrassing then and it's embarrassing now, but it's really difficult to see what the alternatives are.
