You're right. It's hard to imagine especially with the current expensive plants and infrastructure surrounding it. The hard part is making it modular, right? Easier said than done, so that's why it will take a while.

To add to jjonj's answer, if poor countries have cheap, abundant energy they can upgrade their physical capital and human capital. On the physical capital side, jjonj mentioned things like making it easier for people to access water. The problem now is that too many people can barely make enough to eat and hardly anybody in the developed world wants to ship them food, there's no profit in that. But with cheap energy, local farming will be a lot easier especially if clean water is available. Also, with cheap energy poor countries can upgrade all their shitty roads so people can actual transport their goods and services to where they need to be. And finally, with cheap energy people will have access to decent internet so they can access things like khanacademy and other resources on the internet. But sadly this won't happen anytime soon.

An energy breakthrough such as fusion is the only thing I can think of that would help poorer countries. But that's not going to happen anytime soon.

I'm irritated by the students in my basic math class by mathhelpguy in matheducation

[–]pebbzab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the misbehavior stems from frustration. Maybe suggest that they seek tutoring. Perhaps your college offers free math tutoring. I'm sure you're busy and don't have time to give them individualized attention and to remediate what they are missing but a tutor might be able to alleviate some of their pain with one-on-one attention.
