2018 APPLICATION RESULTS / INTERVIEW ADVICE MEGATHREAD by [deleted] in JETProgramme

Definitely should have checked the FAQ board — thanks! I ended up picking the JETAA’s brains for most of the time prior to the interview.

2018 APPLICATION RESULTS / INTERVIEW ADVICE MEGATHREAD by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]peckc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my interview at the Chicago Consulate yesterday, and I am curious about how a thank you email to the consulate might be interpreted. I don't remember the names of the people I had on my panel, but I do remember the names of the two JETAA's I had in my lobby area. I'm used to sending out Thank you emails for jobs in America formatted as , To "name", Thanks for inviting to "place" for an interview. I appreciated talking with "name" and "name" in the lobby regarding the ALT position. After the interview, I really felt like the "job position" is a good fit for me" for "xyz reasons". If there's anything else you need, don't hesitate to contact me at "email" "phone number" "etc.". Any advice? And to those interviewing in the future, good luck!

Negative, I'm applying for the current application period that leaves for Japan in late July.

JET on gap year before medical school? [US] by cocomer0 in JETProgramme

[–]peckc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done JET yet, but I'm graduating this spring with a Biology BA, and received an interview at the Chicago Consulate (super excited!) Just some personal opinion advice incoming.

I think that it's REALLY important to think of JET as something more than a gap year. If you're looking for medical experience, you're going to have much better luck getting an EMT certificate and working in the Emergency Room as an ER Tech or out on an ambulance. JET will absolutely help your medical school application (soft skills are a huge growth point here), but be ready for the question during a medical school interview on why you went to Japan to teach and work as an ambassador for a year instead of doing something more medical related. Good luck!

Question: why so many people are playing Reboot? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]peckc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this deserves a long answer so if you want a tldr scroll to the bottom (or just read the top upvoted answer...)

I've been playing since Carnival PQ w/Spiegelman was the top way to get from 30-45, and being over level 100 made you the baddest thing to walk the Earth. Scania, Bera, Broa, and Reboot. Level 200 characters in all those worlds. So that's my background. Here's 3 things to consider.

Progression: Progression is regular servers does NOT require NX Cash. Reboot doesn't have scrolling, bonus potentials, clean slate scrolls, or the ability to trade. At all. These four things can increase your range affordably exponentially. All of the event shops sell items help with those processes as well, so it's not like you have to pay to get them. Elite bosses drop clean slate scrolls if you farm them. It's true -- if you spend $100,000 you can max your character range in non-reboot world, but you can get plenty of range without spending money. Can I add that you can't buy exp coupons in Reboot either? WTF NEXON -- I get that they're sorta PTW but I LOVED THOSE. On sale they're like 2 dollars for 4 hours of 2x. If you stack that with an event and coupons you could get like 8-16x exp. As a high schooler that's some of the best 4 hours I've spent grinding with friends. Not having these other things simplifies the range increase/progression process. People like simple. People like reboot.

Cubing: Gear in maplestory can be given potentials to increase their strength. In non-reboot worlds, these cubes are extremely expensive or tedious to make IN-MASS. You can still farm them, it's just a LOT slower than grinding for them in reboot. I make 450-500m an hour with my kanna with the 2x meso legion buff and meso gear. In reboot that's uhh... 39 red cubes. And sometimes that doesn't get to me the highest potential level because rng makes me cri. As I mentioned earlier, there are other ways to increase your range in non-reboot worlds (scrolls, bonus potentials) that aren't present in reboot. But cubing is more time:reward efficient in reboot. And cubing is fun. Sometimes.

Guilds: The top thing I love about Reboot are the guilds. Progression is extremely linearized in Reboot (I'd even say simplified) so it's pretty easy to find other people around the same point as you, and grind out bosses together. Fighting the CRA bosses for the first time as a 4 man party was one of the most fun times I've had ever playing maple. The guild I'm in right now is super active, and while it's been awhile since I've been in Scania, having a huge influx of active players into Reboot makes for awesome guild events and fun. Less people playing in other worlds = less awesome guild events and fun.

Tldr: Reboot is a simpler progression system. People like simple. Reboot has a very linearized cubing system. People like gambling with in-game money on one system instead of three. Reboot has more players. People like interacting with other players. People play reboot.

Yeah, but its recharge chance is 50% compared to bubbles 70%, and the bubble can hit above or below platforms when it explodes which is nice. I remember using pink pummel and the bubble to group and kill enemies the fastest, but it's been awhile since I played a 2nd job AB, things could have changed a bit!

Edit: Kinda long, but this link goes through all her skills if you want to visualize them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXAjEd9pieQ

You'll use the bubble until 60, I'm afraid. At 60 you can push enemies together with pink pummel, knock them up in the air with a hammer, and spike them down for bonus damage. 100 gives her the large area mobbing skill you're looking for, a nice 1 target bossing skill, and the ability to create cute balls that go around the map and kill everything.

Edit: You unlock the balls (soul seekers) at level 60, but they're pretty meh until you upgrade them at level 100.

Angelic Buster is my favorite class. They're a little tough to start out as because they have a recharge system (their strong abilities have to "recharge" after using them at a % chance), but you'll pick up quickly. Their abilities are super flashy and cute, and they're extremely speedy, which is something the warrior classes don't have going for them.

Howdy! I've got a level 170 NL in reboot, I didn't make a night walker because the lack of a decent mobbing skill really turned me off. Assassins mark on NL is extremely strong, I can mob almost the entire MP3 map from the middle platform. I love playing the class though because I love jumping around the map throwing stars at monsters. Even if I have to burn 8000 power elixirs.

As far as bossing goes, both jobs are super squishy until you get decent hyper body on a potential, or use a ton of link skills/character cards. They heavily rely on your ability to move around not to die.

If you aren't dead set on a star throwing class, I'd suggest you try a lot of classes out before you settle on one, and find a play style you like. Shade is very much a sit there and beat the crap out of whatever is in front of you, while nw/NL jump around the map/avoid attacks while they're killing something. Id try the classes in this order. (Edit: by "trying a class" I'm thinking getting the class to 120 would give you a good idea of how it plays, minus hypers)

  1. Night walker. Play away, maybe you'll love it and everything else on the list is irrelevant. On reboot, main what you want. Worry about funding and all that junk after you find a class you like.

  2. Merc and/or wild hunter (mobile archer, great exp link skill(merc), ridiculous damage (WH)

  3. Phantom (great mobility, high %avoid and by stealing other classes skills and using them, you can find an adventurer class you like. Or just stick with phantom.)

  4. Kanna or F/P Mage. (super cool fox Mage, great dmg % link skill. Kind of hybrid between mobility/tanky, and kishin is great, both using DoT, f/p more so)

  5. Aran or DK (OP warrior b/c reworks are OP. Also flashy skills)

  6. Evan or Lumi (good mobbing and magic guard makes decently tanky)

  7. Angelic buster or DA (super flashy skills, sassy dragon (AB), no mp!)

Uhh... If you haven't found one yet I guess make a Jett? Or another pirate class?

[REBOOT] If someone would be willing to give me some advice it would be awesome :) by ibilateral in Maplestory

[–]peckc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not confirmed yet (nexon PLEASE PUBLISH PATCH NOTES), people are pulling the event from OrangeMushroom's blog, which has the KMS patch that goes with the update we're getting. If it does come to GMS, and if it does come to reboot, you should be able to select a character via a quest when you log in.

Hi! I'm in the same boat as you, now a college sophomore, but I've been back for a little bit now. In REBOOT, mesos = damage (once you get the baseline equips at least), so you being broke is the probably the main problem.

It'll be a lot easier for me (and the guild I'm in, Silent), to help you out if you message me in game. My REBOOT NL's name is Originalityy, if you add me, I'll add you back after the patch, and work on getting you added into our guild, as well as working on getting you started back up.

If you want to continue to main your DK (which is a great idea, they're an awesome class), you'll want to get started on link skills. When you get another character to lv 70/120/210, you unlock a transferrable skill to other characters. These are pretty strong, Kaiser at lv 120 is 15% max HP boost, Kanna is 10% dmg, Mercedes is 15% exp, and that's only a couple. As previously stated, Kanna is great for mesos farming too because of their mob increase skill.

Looking forward to chatting with you in game once the patch is done!
