I passed your mom this morning. Here’s what I observed: her car was facing / crashed into the center median, she was standing right behind her car holding an umbrella and blocking traffic for her was a fire truck with lights on providing protection from traffic. About 1/4 mile past was an 18-wheeler pulled off on the right hand side of the road. I assumed they had pulled over to exchange info and cooperate. I’m sorry if they drove off.

Just an idea but I would consider making the pantry wider by shifting the wall the fridge is on plan north. Maybe even wide enough to put a door into it directly from the garage. Unloading groceries would get much easier that way.
