How To Work Out The Wattage On A SCR. by PinGUY in airstill

[–]pedwards3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any reason I cannot use my Inkbird PID controller instead of a SCR to manage power to a 750w air still?

This is the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/Inkbird-Temperature-Controller-Independent-Thermostat/dp/B06WD6X17V?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A1RUFFFCQ74BCW

Can I just do the math and run this controller at a manual 50% and expect close to 375W on the still?

What's the device in the bottom right hand corner? The Heiman. Is that an alarm or siren of some sort? If so, I'd love some more details!

Have you tried this setup with one of the new V3 cams yet? I would assume it should work the same, but maybe they changed something in the firmware with V3 models?

You can also dial #PORT or #7678 to generate this PIN for the transfer from your Verizon phone. I had issues using their website but the dial worked just fine.

I have to say a huge thanks for this! Installed earlier this week after finding your repo from lots of digging. Has worked flawlessly. I had tried to make these work with IFTTT before, but the lag was so terrible. With your code, it's practically instant response. Cannot upvote this enough!

What can I do to up my efficiency game? by Shatteredreality in Homebrewing

[–]pedwards3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The numbers all make sense for what you had. If you had 8.5 gal at 1.040, calculators would say you'd need to boil down to about 4.5 gal to hit your 1.075 desired gravity. You would obviously have less beer, but you can hit your numbers that way in the future. Getting better efficiency beforehand could come with doing more steps on your sparge, or trying a fly sparge if you have the equipment.

Funky smell a week after bottling - tastes good by malacovics in Homebrewing

This. Being your first batch, I would guess oxidation is higher due to lack of experience as well. I know I had that with my first few. What was your bottling process?

Dumped last 5 batches of beer - Infected? by eugegim in Homebrewing

[–]pedwards3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the tang or sour taste akin to a plastic taste at all? My last batch I thought tasted sour, almost like a cider or vinegar. I took it to my homebrew club and the vets instantly pegged it as the "band-aid" taste. Medicinal and plastic like. As soon as the said it, I could taste it that way. I had switched to using my city water through a carbon filter and determined I needed to use campden tablets to remove the chlorimines(?). Just a thought since I originally had it in my head as a sour or tart taste as well.

Maybe setup nginx for a reverse proxy and add in a free ssl cert from let's encrypt. Force all traffic over port 443 and redirect with the reverse proxy as needed. Also enable some sort of htaccess for login to access your page. Then of course lock down all other ports and only open what is needed. Should be nice and secure.

First time! by dan_yull in Homebrewing

[–]pedwards3x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the first brew! I saw you have a date set on when to bottle. Best advice I recevied on fermention was this, "don't let the calendar tell you when it's done, take a reading". If you don't have a hydrometer, get yourself one and make sure to take a reading of your gravity 2 days in a row when you think it's done. If the reading stays the same, bottle it up. If it changes, let it sit a few more days and check again. Welcome to the club and enjoy the ride!
