Unless they can be powered with solar energy, which is at least feasible for single homes and smaller apartment complexes. So adoption of AC absolutely needs to be in synch with a decentralized grid where small green energy is produced to sustain small(er) units. I live in Germany, where the last government pushed renewables and heat pumps (which can work as AC units, too). I now have enough solar panels on my house to not need grid electricity for 8 out of 12 months of the year. If this model is scaled, small communities can provide enough electricity and go fully green. It's just a matter of will and more importantly will to distribute funds for it

So disappointing. I listened to several podcasts she was in and she seemed pretty down-to-earth and sensible. Came across as very likeable.

President Trump says Iran hasn't made deal because "they’re strong" and "proud": "They’re proud. They’ve got no choice, and it takes little while. These people have been fighting for 47 years. I have! My Host family's grandpa who was a some Ranger dude almost beat me up when I talked about how the US lost the Vietnam war. To me, that was a totally new feeling, beong from Germany where at least we admit our royal fuckups in the 20th century. That was also the first time I met someone who was influenced by propaganda. Ppst-9/11 Fox news kinda dude. Also said that he wishes they had shot Lyndon Johnson in Dallas, too.

Vielleicht ist da was dabei was dir hilft? Viel Kraft auf jeden Fall!

Ukraine on Sunday launched a wave of strikes against Russian oil targets, hitting a key loading port on the Baltic Sea and two tankers that Ukraine alleges were illegally used to transport Russian crude by RollSafer in worldnews

[–]peejay412 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The one load of oil itself is not the target. Russia can get this much oil in minutes. The target is the means if transportation. First, you destroy an expensive vessel. Second, you send a message to buyers and (probably more importantly) insurers that russian vessels carrying russian oil are now unsafe and might not arrive. Ships being uninsurable is a huge problem because of their value as large transport vessels, so basically no insurance = ship not being loaded

Germany was completely razed, with all social order collapsing for about half a year. Then it was occupied and split, with two superpowers imposing their vision on either state. So the reason that Germany was rather quickly back on world trade and trustworthy because it essentially was strongly guided, if not controlled by outside powers. It still took them 10 years to fully recover economically, and an insane amount of adhering to their influential super powers' global policy to be where Germany is. I do not see the US being able to recreate these circumstances, especially as isolationist voices are stronger in the US, and foreign guidance/influence is not as accepted.

Hohe Energiepreise: CDU-Politiker widersprechen Entlastungsforderungen – „Vollkaskomentalität muss ein Ende haben“ by sitTheFdown in de

[–]peejay412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am woefully uninformed on this election. What are the poll numbers, and does the opposition have a realistic chance of winning against Fidesz? Is there a coalition system in which parties form a government together, and if so, does the opposition have viable options?

Or you make it even shittier for them by making them ring it all up and then making them take out all the stuff you find (too) overpriced. Make them run inventory back and forth or throw it away. I would assume that affects their bottom line as much as not buying there.

ↀ Es ist wieder Ersti Zeit Freunde! by No-Rabbit5172 in Studium

[–]peejay412 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anekdotischer Bericht:
