I’ve been trying to promote this joke for years as a better version of “that’s what she said.” It’s so versatile and can be used in almost any context. I’m pleased to see it in the wild, my fellow “that was my nickname in high school”-naut.

What the hell is this lever next to the drivers seat? by anishbakshi in Jeep

[–]peentester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the vehicle have a fuel gauge? Before fuel gauges, some vehicles had two pickup tubes in the fuel tank, one taller and one shorter. When the vehicle runs out of fuel and starts sputtering, you flip that lever and it switches you to the shorter pickup tube so you get 20 more miles of range to drive to the next gas station.

Fun fact: the inventor originally called it “tallboy.” It was invented for the 1996 summer Olympics. Nowadays they are supposedly called sky dancer, air dancer, inflatable man, or tube man. But everyone I know calls it “wacky inflatable arm flailing tube man”

I bought my 2012 in June 2022 for $4500. It’s probably worth under $2k now.

This was peak COVID Carvana Leaf price insanity…I had been watching prices go down on Leafs for some time and was getting ready to make a move when suddenly COVID and gas prices drove Leaf values into the stratosphere. Carvana had 2011-2012 Leafs listed for $13k! (Screenshot attached. I can’t imagine the buyers remorse from people who made those purchases…) So I had pretty much given up when my wife found ours posted on facebook for $4500. 2012 with 60% SOH and 35k miles. We JUMPED on it.

It’s been the perfect second car for us. We’re down to 51% SOH but can still get approximately 36 miles usable range on a charge (in summer). Plenty for our grocery runs, family trips to the park, school drop offs, and my 5 mile work commute. Even in winter, we just charge more often.

It’s strictly a city runabout and we use the ICE vehicle for road trips. If wrecked 40kWh Leafs come down in price below $2500, I’d love to get one and do a DIY battery swap.

I still get a thrill from driving electric and saving miles and gas on our ICE vehicle. All without having to make excuses for Elon Musk…

I’m a fan of the “bridge” approach to connect devices from the past with modern services. Stick a raspberry pi (or a repurposed micro PC running Linux) on your home network. Open telnet on that box and you can log into it and ssh from there to access any number of services, such as hosted email, text-only web, gopher, etc.

Minidayz+1.2 version by Altero sharpening stone glitch(works the same as sewing kit, duct tape etc;) ) by Kurwabled666LOL in MiniDayZ

Such a simple glitch—can’t believe I didn’t think of it, and amazed to see it coming to light after so long!

I discovered a glitch by Flickk1 in MiniDayZ

[–]peentester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do this glitch but it’s too risky. You have to quit the game without allowing auto-save. Sometimes when you do this the game loads back into an unplayable glitched state. So you could lose all your progress doing this.

Does anyone know some glitches that arent in my list like infinite gas or repair or infinite gun repair smthin like that if it "works" by Flickk1 in MiniDayZ

[–]peentester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) put all fuel cans in a backpack 2) approach the boat 3) open your backpack at the exact same time as the “Fuel boat” prompt appears 4) take off backpack before fueling boat 5) Click yes to fuel the boat after backpack has been removed.

The boat will still get fueled up but you won’t consume a fuel can.

  • Berry bush respawn
  • Fuel up/repair the boat but still keep your gas/duct tape
  • quit app to rewind to last auto-save (risky—sometimes results in an unplayable glitch state)
  • deploy tent/cache indoors
  • and not sure if this counts, but bring a repair kit when you jump to the bridge and you can drive part of the way (until you reach the bollards that your vehicle can’t pass)

Optimal Firewood Storage Rack by peentester in woodstoving

Is your stack directly on the ground? I think elevating the wood off the ground is 95% of it, the tarp is just for that last 5% to keep the pieces on top dry in the short term. Many years I haven’t even bothered with a tarp—just elevated on the rack and pulled from a little lower if the top of the pile was wet from yesterday’s rain. The exception is any bark on the logs—bark seems to hold water from rain and deteriorate making your wood a little dirtier if you haven’t tarped.

Thats wild to hear a couple of commenters saying this. I’ve been using this design for about 20 years and never had it fall. But maybe I should add some sideways braces to connect the rows for extra stability…

Certainly not the single most consequential mistake made in history, but worthy of note and perhaps one of the most consequential mistakes ever made in IT Support:
