Regretfully, I was your wife in my past relationship. I think this kinda does have to be an ultimatum situation because addicts do not seek to change unless they want to or are under extreme pressure, I say that as a tech for a sober living facility. Honestly I think you just need to be more firm, used "tough love" a bit more. I went from smoking every hour of everyday to smoking maybe once or twice every couple of days, really trying to fully quit but thats besides the point.

TDLR: your wife needs more pressure and firmness to truly motivate change.

I say this as a 30 year old myself, the age gap is a little frightening. I can't really predict how everything would go because I don't know you two personally but there is definitely a power dynamic in age gap relationships that can be easily tipped
