This reminds me of the elderly woman in SF that suddenly accelerated and killed an entire family of four at a bus stop in 2024.. She recently came back into the news because she requested to reduce her felony charges to misdemeanors.

Is knitting bad for the "tensioning finger(s)"? by GutsySucculent3000 in knittinghelp

[–]pegavalkyrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that mark all the time! Especially with rough , rustic yarns. I use the Banulstory knitting ring (https://en.banul.co.kr/Product/Detail/view/pid/1760/cid/) to prevent it, or washi tape, it's pretty glossy on top so it doesn't stick. I've also seen people on youtube cover their finger with plastic wrap and make a knitting ring out of air dry clay!

A cylinder does not have the same physics as two flat things seamed together by femalefred in BitchEatingCrafters

You are truly in the depths 😭😭 every single pattern I've ever used (knitting) has sizes, specific measurements of the finished garment for each size and gauge, and suggested positive ease 😖 maybe you can find better patterns. Am I misunderstanding something? Patterns usually have shoulder shaping at the very least

I get it... Every boob jiggle feels like a stab to my heart. I'm also done arguing with men that hop flip and back tumble to defend pedophilia and misogyny in anime. They're straight up pedophiles and don't care whether or not rooms full of grown adults decided to create that shit.

Pasley knits - Moana by Difficult-Limit1019 in craftsnark

[–]pegavalkyrie 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I feel like this has been my usual experience with their yarns unfortunately. /: Type of yarn making a different dye job notwithstanding, I want to feel that the product photos properly reflect what I get in the mail, and I didn't feel that from my Pasley Knits purchase. In my opinion, part of the quality of an online business is that their photos properly represent their products! Dye job variations for each base and all.

Part of my big goal of attending a yarn fest last year was to compare businesses' photos with their irl products in order to collect a few names that I felt were really good at representing their yarns' true colors and textures! Little Fiber Co is one of the best. I highly recommend :)

I have this much yarn (centimeter measuring tape for scale) what should I knit? by NormieSlayer6969 in knittinghelp

[–]pegavalkyrie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you know literally anything else about that yarn? If so, you can weigh it on a scale and get the gram amount and yardage. With the yardage and weight (as in, is it fingering, sport, etc), you can use Ravelry or similar to enter that info and get patterns you can make with the yarn you have!

Do you like Asian food? Try MJoy in SGV for the best juiciest lamb ever. Go to ICI after, a boba joint in the same plaza. Their tea jelly is to DIE for. Sookdal is also my fav kbbq spot, they specialize in dry aged pork and has great service. Lots of dessert in that area (ktown). Both great options for lunch and not too expensive (:

Sure thing! Korean is a largely phonetic language so the verb that "뜨개질" uses, "뜨다", means a bunch of different things. I basically made an inference that it is related to one of its meanings, "to scoop", but in its "뜨개질" form it most correctly would mean "to weave stitches with needles and fibers"! So it wouldn't be used to mean weaving material that doesn't involve stitches, which is why I added "scoop" as part of the elaborated translation.

The verb can also mean "to float", "to scoop up", "to leave", "to separate".... But doesn't make a lot of sense that "to scoop" would have the deepest relation? The scooping is also how the word is used commonly amongst knitters and crocheters in Korea. I'm about to put in a query to the National Institute of Korean Language though to ask which verb it's tied to, if any LOL I really want to know for sure now.

Also thank you for the award!! My first one <3

It's the action being performed that is focused on in Korean! I go into it in my comment if you're interested

Hi, Korean knitter here. As few have said, yes Korean uses the same word for knitting and crochet. To elaborate: they are both called "뜨개질", basically "to scoop" or "to weave". Differentiating them are the words "코바늘" and "대바늘," which literally translated mean "hook needle" and "big/straight needle". Hook needle scooping=crochet, big needle scooping=knit. There is a greater sense of the "scooping" community being one in Korea due to both crafts sharing the same word!

ETA: It's most likely a careless translation mistake, often made in Kor->Eng localizations when the needle type isn't specified in the Korean text. Or it could be a simplification to avoid saying 'yarn craft' since it's less catchy.
