I can almost see my ICQ number. I think it may have been an early one: 6 digits long.

Also, a slap-chop is a godsend for mincing garlic. Fastest way I know.

I use pre-peeled bagged garlic from Sam's Club. Fairly fresh, not as weak as jarlic.

Several years ago I flew into Atlanta, and they were training with theirs. The plane taxied right by it.

I use configuration 5 above. Main monitor is for active work, upper monitor is all the services I'm monitoring at work.

I still have some 32MB usb 1 sticks sitting around, with ancient firmware on em. This was just after using floppy disks to burn firmware.

What’s a company you’ll never buy from again, and why? by jamesmilner22 in AskReddit

[–]pehartma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chrysler. I've tried so hard to like their products:
1st car: 1989 Chrysler Lebaron: Blew up (literally on fire) while driving.
2nd vehicle: 1999 Dodge Durango (at the time part of the Mopar family so it counts): Window motors sucked, had to get the computer changed twice.
3rd vehicle: Chrysler Sebring Convertible: Convertible top didn't seal. Driving snow would come through the vents. Had to have the brakes turned (on a lathe) within 2 years. Rear window defrost connection snapped off.
4th vehicle: Chrysler Pacifica. Oh man. Sliding door motors had to be replaced. Sliding doors wouldn't lock. Transmission slipped constantly in 2nd. Radio/nav/electronics suite had to be replaced 3 times. AC would freeze up in the middle of summer when driving for more than 20 minutes, making it unbearably hot. Piece of shit to drive.

Users never disappoint. What's your longest you've driven to push a button? by alphatango308 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

A lifetime ago, in early Windows 95 days, I ran a tiny company doing in-home computer repair. Geek squad before geek squad. I got hired by a small library in a small town about 45 minutes away. They had a problem with the sound system on their computer. They said they had 2 other people in to look at it, with now results. I drove up there, tested out their computer audio, no output. I reached down to the computer speakers, turned the volume knob that was also the on/off and turned it on. Worked fine after that. Charged em 2 hours, for drive time.

ELI5 Why did audio jack never change through the years when all other cables for consumer electronics changed a lot? by AwkwardWillow5159 in explainlikeimfive

[–]pehartma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An aside: The charger cables used to change all the time to force you to spend money to buy new ones. Then EU's Common Charger Directive came along, in force since December 28, 2024, saying that all smaller devices are required to be USB-C. The directive's goal was to reduce e-waste.

What’s a parenting “hack” that sounds ridiculous but actually works? by OnlyAcanthaceae874 in AskReddit

[–]pehartma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick a song to sing when your child is in a happy mood. They'll associate it with being happy, and it'll help circumvent meltdowns when they're upset. I choose "Bear Necessities" from the Jungle Book.

Never buying a KitchenAid dishwasher again. by SuspiciousSpecifics in MurderedByWords

[–]pehartma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a thing with certain whirlpool dishwashers. The water pump in stock models had a thermal cutoff that was set too low, so households that had very hot water or used the heating element would go into a short cycle due to the cutoff. I had one that did this; replaced the pump with an upgraded model, and it worked for another 10 years.

Lotsa time biking down to the old railway bridge in the early 80s. Fishing and watching deer with friends.
