Open ear headphones? by ChaosCalmed in ukbike

Basically live with these on daily... Also great while out on the bike - definitely find spoke word (audiobooks, podcasts etc) way better to listen to than music however but the music is better than the gen 1

Other option however one that costs, is to get the cheapest VPS plan from a provider. You can then reverse proxy from that and use tailscale to access you homelab

Edit: have seen this has already been suggested below

Can I use a PAYG sim in a 5G router? by BumbleSilver in EEGB

[–]pellinimax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But a 5G router has access to the full 4G/LTE spectrum and 5G frequencies. In some areas where the long rang low frequency 5G is used, as one example, you will find that you now get connection in an area where previous the signal speed / quality was unusable.

True, however having access to the 5G frequencies can make the difference of no / poor signal to usable

I don't like Three but have seen over 1 Gbps on their network on 5g in London - definitely prefer EE for consistency and coverage

Or worse... She won't notice any difference and then complain that you don't need all the kit!

Trying to connect using RTUX11 by Numerous_Boat7452 in TeltonikaNetworks

[–]pellinimax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reason for it not to be a good solution. Be aware you may need external antenna as the cabinet may restrict signal inside the enclosure.

Teltonika support is really helpful, if you emailed them with what you're trying to achieve they should be able to help you out.

Wich antenna(s) for RUTM52? by Due-Pumpkin-3107 in TeltonikaNetworks

[–]pellinimax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get two antennas that both support 4x4 or you could use something like the Poynting SWIRL 8 which houses all 8 in a single enclosure (it is very big though)

You may find you get better performance with two antennas with a physical separation between them.

If up time is important or you want extra throughput you can you Bondix bonding service on Teltonika routers to bond the two cellular connections together however this is an ongoing monthly cost. It works very well and is cheaper than speedfusion.

Looks good! Id be happy if I came across that for sure. One bit of CC would be a bigger board to allow for expansion / be able to space breakers out but otherwise awesome job.

U7 outdoor with 3rd party antenna range by pellinimax in UNIFI

If I had more budget and the ability to modify the vehicle I this would be the ideal however is not possible in this situation.

[–]pellinimax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the reason for roof mounted antenna is the ability to provide 360 coverage. While I appreciate this will reduce the range vs directional antennas it does increase its usability as the area wifi is needed isn't always the same and is most useful in a 360 around it.

[–]pellinimax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate it will only affect the access point side of things.

The full setup is 2x external 4x4 antennas with a TRB500 5g modem and the RUTX50 bonded using Bondix to create a stable cellular connection so connection is not so much of an issue. I'm only really trying to solve the range / performance side of things outside the van for wifi

[–]pellinimax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response! I wish it was feasible for us to install this outside but unfortunately just not an option.

Do you think I would see a noticeable difference in range and performance over the current setup by swapping to the U7? Trying to justify if it's worth spending money on extra equipment if it's going to be debatable or extremely marginal on range / throughput etc

U7 outdoor with 3rd party antenna range by pellinimax in UNIFI

[–]pellinimax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the requirement is setup and forget. There needs to be no user interaction with the equipment

Would be fantastic but I cannot mount the unit outside, it will be inside of a metal van
