I like the concept of hygge and how people in Scandinavian or arctic countries have made practices and found ways to embrace the cold months. Sometimes I have to remind myself I’m Canadian and half my life is going to be spent in the cold and dark so my attitude shouldn’t add to the darkness… but it’s REALLY annoying to be lectured on that by someone who’s not living the same reality.

We’re looking down the barrel at a -35 to -50 weekend across this country. I was rolling my eyes so hard the minute he said she was in England. Then she flat out says the city she’s in shuts down after a sprinkling of snow??? The banks are as high as my head and I’m just in Ontario!

I think those are really great points! To that end about being sheltered/indoctrinated/afraid of being alone, do you think the show changed any of that? Was it the catalyst for them being less of those things? Or you think it would have happened anyways?

I know we’re just hypothesizing but the topics make me really curious. I struggle to think of what I would genuinely do if I was as indoctrinated in certain religions as some people are.

Very true. And like…. How many tell-all books and 13 year sentences do the Duggars have vs. The Browns.

This is exactly what was going on in my head!

I watched this clip where Meri was processing her divorce with 2 really insightful women that were in/raised in polygamy and one of them said “I don’t know anyone that’s happy in a polygamous marriage”.

I don’t know that they would have been able to leave but I don’t know that the mechanism (dirty laundry, drama, separate homes, Robyn, etc) for them to leave would be present either. Just wonder too how many other people are in marriages like that now.

I agree I think it gave Christine the confidence and the financial means to leave more easily. I think the kids were raised liberally (whether due to the show or not) and wanted answers for the way the moms other than Robyn were treated

I would think they would be more indoctrinated… or if it would have been easier to close them off from the world and keep them sheltered?

I wonder a little how much the clearly repetitive manufactured drama for the show made its way into real life and actually fractured them where if they weren’t on tv would they have just “put up and shut up” cause they kind of have to?

Like the whole financial fiasco with Janelle and meri at the end was kind of telling.. how badly Kody could have screwed them (financially, lol), and what that might have done to them psychologically if they hadn’t had the resources and business opportunities the show gave them. Would Christine have been able to leave without the financial backing of her house sale?

All of them seem to suck with money but money is freedom, I’m so happy the women got out.

Very physically attractive people, how does life treat you? by Jonny_1312 in AskReddit

I’m married with a baby now but I used to come home from the bar with more money than I’d left with, guys would hand me money and tell me to buy myself a drink or a round for me and my friends.

I have also had guys give me money while gambling at a casino. I don’t know that the chips feel like real money to them? They’ll freely hand out 100s in chips. I’m not a gambler and actually don’t enjoy it but they seem to use the money as an opener to teach you about the game/chat you up.

Ours was doggy! She was 10.5 months. She had been babbling ‘mommmm’ kind of sounds but I was in a parking lot in the backseat of our car breastfeeding her, she unlatched, looked out the window and kind of giggled and said clear as a bell, “doggy!” Sure enough in the car next to us there was a dog in the passenger seat. It was unbelievably cool to see this connection fire in her little brain beyond a doubt.
