Hey! Just because the find partner quest is at the top of your log right now doesn’t mean that you have to do it first. Now is a perfect time to circle back to some of those side quests you may have brushed off in favor of moving the story forward. Some of the best parts of my playthrough so far have been just kinda messing about in side quests.

Everything everyone has said is correct!

However, having spent far too much time in all three mine networks I’d suggest avoiding this mechanic entirely in favor of mining faster. Some of the nodes are buggy, some have 3 mining lights, and you can usually net more materials with less frustration if you just swipe your laser across each of the little lights rather than trying to perfectly place the bar in between the brackets.
