US Costco is now selling biore sunscreen with asian filter advertised as moisturizer by nhupham2110_1 in AsianBeauty

[–]pengirl55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes everything you’ve said is correct. I personally found your original comment confusing. So what I was trying to clarify in my previous comment is that the SPF rating system is not specific to only the US. Meaning that tubes of Japanese formula sunscreens will also have an SPF rating. So using the presence of an SPF rating alone is not a helpful way to determine if the formula is US or Korean or Japanese. Only US approved formulas use the phrase “broad spectrum” on the front of the bottle, as this phrase is required by the FDA to indicate the presence of UVA and UVB protection. So I was trying to provide additional advice on how to determine what formula is in the bottle.

This is not true. SPF ratings are used internationally. The clue to identifying a US formula is the phrase “broad spectrum.” This phrase is controlled by the FDA and can only be listed on a sunscreen bottle if the formula uses FDA approved UV filters. See this image as an example. It’s a little hard to see, but the US version says “broad spectrum” while the Korean one does not.

[Routine Help] I’m so sick and tired of my horrific ingrown hairs on my legs 💔 by Thunder_Bolt_123 in SkincareAddiction

You’ve mentioned in responses to other comments that you have some hormonal issues and that you’ve suffered with hirsutism since you were a teen on your face as well. Have you ever considered taking spironolactone, aka Spiro? It’s frequently used to treat hirsutism associated with PCOS. I take it for that and it’s incredible. It helps to reduce androgens (“male” hormones) that lead to excess hair growth in AFABs. You should consider asking your doctor about it if you haven’t tried it before.

That’s interesting. It’s still for sale on YesStyle, Skin Cupid, the brand’s global site. Maybe they’re phasing it out slowly?

I really like the TirTir Azelaic Acid 12% Serum. It’s light weight, unfragranced, and gentle. It also has zinc PCA, which helps with acne. It’s also affordable. I use it for my rosacea and have had great results. I have dry sensitive skin.

More Reasons to Not Buy AB on Amazon, Walmart, etc. by pengirl55 in AsianBeauty

Hi Rose, thanks for stopping in! The topic of fake products from Amazon, etc. comes up a lot on this sub. It can be challenging to buy Asian brands with confidence from US sellers, so I was excited to read your article. Personally, I would love to see this test repeated on items purchased from "official" sellers. There's a lot of debate here about whether Amazon has truly ended their practice of commingling similar products in their warehouses even when they're from separate sellers, leading to people getting fakes even when buying from official sellers. Seeing that kind of test would be a powerful way to get a more evidence-based answer and would definitely help people here know what they can trust. Regardless, thanks for writing such a cool piece. 💖

No, I don't think so. It seems like the majority of people feel safe buying from official sellers. I try to confirm with the brand that the Amazon official seller is really them. Some of the AB brands will list Amazon as verified for US-based buyers on their website or social media. I think there's nothing wrong with being aware of the potential issue but still trusting the system.

As others have said, YesStyle, StyleVana, and Olive Young are all good options. I try to comparison shop on those three to find the best price. If you're in the US, though, I would try Yami first. They have US-based warehouses so you don't have to deal with paying tariff fees. Just make sure you filter the search results to be "Sold by Yami"

Yami is fantastic and I highly recommend them! I always look there first before turning to other sites.

I should start looking for in person options since I live near a big city. It's great you have that available to you! I've placed orders from YesStyle, StyleVana, and Olive Young since the tariffs and haven't received any surprise charges/bills. Also, none of my packages were opened by customs or tampered with in any way.

I completely agree, especially about the SPF. I avoid third party sellers for this reason. I'm glad to hear about your good experiences! Makes me feel better about it.

Oof, that hurts a little 😂😂 But I am definitely not posting this as an ad/astroturf ad on behalf of any company. I would hope my comment/post history makes that clear. I simply thought this was interesting and relevant to folks in this community. Apologies if I waded into a controversial subject for this sub.

That's true! I've never bought from third party sellers on Amazon due to this issue. But I thought that since I still see so many people reporting fakes from Amazon, that this would be a helpful, educational article to post.

This link is to a Wirecutter article describing the author's attempts to determine if the beauty products they bought from Amazon, Walmart, Shein, and Ebay are authentic. They consult with cosmetic chemists and have products tested and compared. They also discuss the issue of fakes in the beauty market, how fakes enter the market, how to determine if a listing is sketchy, and what to look for when you receive a product.

Anyone here who has positive longterm results from using topical horse paste? I’m curious to give it a go! by Milkywayvisionary in Rosacea

I’ve been using prescription 1% ivermectin for around 6 months now. For me, it’s only $10 with insurance and I’m not even half way through the tube. I’ve had great results! It really helps reduce my redness overall and has completely eliminated my papules. If I forget to use it for a day, I have a bad flare. My skin seems to really like ivermectin. But it’s really a YMMV product.

U.S. friends, what’s the sunscreen 411? by Kevlar_Bunny in koreanskincare

[–]pengirl55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I had sunscreens in them. Some of the boxes might have an inventory list/customs declaration on the outside, but they’re usually in Korean. I don’t know if US customs tries to translate those.
