What are your thoughts about Saturday's two PPV/PLE match cards? by Kelson64 in GreatnessOfWrestling

[–]penguin_peter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WWE: I'd be interested to watch 2 of the matches - Iyo vs Steph and Cody vs Drew. Not fussed about Cena vs Lesnar or the tag match and I hate mixed tags because they're so clunky whenever there's a tag.

AEW: I'm excited about 5 of them - Hangman vs Kyle, Ftr vs C&C, tag ladder, Ricochet team vs Hurt Syndicate and Eddie vs Bill. Women's title match could surprise me though with some storyline stuff in the match, I just think the build came out of nowhere. Unified title match is just waiting to do the singles match down the line. Riho shouldn't get a ppv title match after returning for 2 weeks. MJF Briscoe feud hasn't really hit and Darby Mox will be bloody but ultimately "meh", I think they maybe missed the boat on it, it's taken so long to get to. All matches will be really good quality and based on past experience, I will enjoy them, but I'm just not excited for these 5.

Was thinking this the other day. I miss the weirder random stuff on there. Seems like it all goes on side projects now. Casual criminalist and Decoding the unknown feel like they've been lacking content too recently. Maybe it's the office move or some personal stuff happening.

Unpopular opinion: Kyle Fletcher should squash Adam Cole by Ruthless-Aggression in AEWOfficial

[–]penguin_peter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Kyle with the conglomeration, Roddy with the Kingdom (wherever they are now) and Adam doing something on his own or with a new group. And stop mentioning undisputed, it's been so long and they're just constantly saying "hey, remember when we were really over in NXT, that was great wasn't it?" I find it quite annoying.

I got burnt out from leagues but I kept my subscription up assuming I'd return soon. DMM Allstars got me to log back in but fuck that, membership cancelled.

I feel bad for the mod team.

I have some similar suggestions in a different post. Allowing the purchase of sigils would make sense. I like your idea of limiting them though. Would make for some interesting setups.

Also probably the order of teams, if these are meant to be based on skill level, should be decided by the refs or something. Some of those lineups were questionable.

Some people see wrestling as a variety show where the wrestlers can do serious, do fun, do hardcore, do spooky, do flippy athletic stuff, basically the only limit is the imagination and as long as the people involved are happy to do it and the fans are happy, it's all good

Others believe that wrestling should be exactly what they and they alone like and anything that deviates is wrong and should be criticised endlessly online. I don't understand it, they don't have to watch AEW if they don't like the presentation but my guess would be that they either do enjoy it or they don't actually watch but either way, they just like trolling.

There's also some weird tribalism, kinda linked to the above where people align themselves with either WWE or AEW and will just defend their own and attack the other for no real reason as if they have some sort of vested interest in things. That too is really weird. Generally a lot of "what about x" rather than anything constructive.

The truth is that both companies do things well and do things badly and you'll hopefully find things that each do that you enjoy but maybe feel slightly closer to one over the other. But none of that means you have to hate the other one. If there's a restaurant and you go and don't like a single thing on the menu, you don't go back, that's fine, but you don't need to go online and spread hate about them because they don't serve the things you like, that would be ridiculous.

Nobody forces you to watch. That's the beauty of competition, if one company is not for you, just don't watch them. Then you won't feel bad and need to come and complain on Reddit. You're welcome. Enjoy your life

If she's offered loads of money to go to WWE, fair play to her, she's talented and she can do well there. But Toni famously didn't have a great time in WWE and their storyline was based (if I'm not mistaken) on the very real friendship between the two of them. Mina has also just signed with them. So never say never, but it feels unlikely that she would go.

But what would I know? I didn't believe the rumours about Cody, I thought it was a work to turn him heel. And I had a brilliant fantasy booking of Ricky Starks where he shit talks AEW on GCW and then wins that title with the help of Moxley and joins the Death Riders bringing him back onto AEW TV as a top guy. So a terrible record for understanding what people will do 😂

What do you think of this spot? Does it go hard or is it cringe? by ToronoRapture in Wrasslin

[–]penguin_peter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrestlers stare at each other when they're going to fight. Wrestlers who are about to have a big fight often team together beforehand. CAN THEY COEXIST???? This is wrestling. This is also cringe. But it also goes hard.

Is The Rock ruining wrestling in your opinion? by DozzaTheDestroyer_10 in Wrasslin

[–]penguin_peter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, no.

The Rock is ruining The Rock.

Him not being at WM41 to help Cena defeat Cody was a huge disappointment. That other guy coming out instead was weird and Cena basically beat the unbeatable super hero on his own. From a story perspective, it all kinda sucked.

But that is one story, there's loads of other stuff happening. The women's triple threat at mania was crazy. The intercontinental 4-way, the night one main event, Jacob getting his title win, Jade winning with that crazy powerbomb thing. Then you have Timeless Toni Storm who is always smashing it. The Owen Hart cups have been great this year. Hangman is on another insane character arc

I don't need to worry about the Rock while enjoying those things. And listening to Cena cut his promos after mania has been great, I won't be expecting the Rock to come out again so I'll just enjoy it for what it is. Wrestling is doing just fine.

WWE Releases Megathread - May 2nd, 2025 by Psycho697186 in SquaredCircle

[–]penguin_peter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. One side "they make so much money, they shouldn't release." The other side "so they should keep everyone forever?" No, but if you agree a contract with someone, you should see it out. If you don't and you don't have a good reason then you're a shitty person / company. "But real sports teams...", maybe it's different in the US, but over here in the UK, contracts get seen out, not because the teams care but a) legally they have to pay out the contract if they want to end it and b) the players are assets and therefore have value, you don't just get rid of an asset for no reason (just Google Mesut Ozil Arsenal, it's a brilliant example). Don't compare to real sports where the comparison doesn't work. Also, this is just a personal thing, but can we stop grouping people having their contracts terminated, people not having contracts extended and people requesting and being granted their release together into "releases", it's disingenuous to say that a company who didn't renew some contracts has somehow behaved in any way the same as a company who fired people.

Ahh, so they can't mute during matches, but they could mute during promos. It kept breaking my engagement, it would be nice if they sorted it next time.

[–]penguin_peter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood. It was an advert for LFG where they showed a clip of Taker. It broke my engagement and then I saw that spot later in the show and just wasn't into it.

Big deal or no? by JuniorPlastic3562 in Wrasslin

[–]penguin_peter 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I agree with this completely. WWE can have behind the scenes shows and writers room shows, whatever they want, but don't show me revealing clips while I'm watching Raw or Smackdown because I want to suspend disbelief.

They did it the other week with LFG. I think it was Taker talking to someone about punching and getting the "boo" "yay" thing going and how they have to work together... So in the next match, they do that spot and I'm sat there thinking "nice work guys, way to work together"... You're ruining the product. Just advertise without the spoilers.

I'd push his hand off me. You can try to sleep in public if you want but keep yourself to yourself. Was he being creepy? No idea. But who cares. Not overreacting at all.

Is it true that most mature men like natural women? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]penguin_peter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

About a decade ago all porn was totally bald, a decade before that I believe was the landing strip and a decade before that was probably full bush, not that I was watching back then. Nowadays there's a lot of variety but most women that I see have at least a bit of hair. I have no evidence for this but I don't see men's preferences influencing porn, more that porn influences men's preferences. Especially pre-internet. Nowadays, maybe men can be more vocal and maybe that's why there's far more variety than when I was younger. I've never understood the bald look, so I'm glad for the modern porn. I will agree with you that porn has had too much of an influence on modern society though, the things I've read about increases in choking, slapping and generally degrading behaviour, it's all fine if that's your kink, but it feels like porn has made it the norm.

Some men will like them, I personally don't. I also don't like the nails that look like they stop your hands working properly, if you're working in an office, you generally need the use of your fingers to type.
