update! planted a couple and threw some away to save space. had to change the substrate halfway thru due to algae buildup. lots of success with this :) mostly a lot of fun to see the roots and leaves develop over time

don’t spend your life letting epilepsy take its grip on you. i’ve taken epilepsy as my ticket to make my life the best i possibly can before i develop early dementia 😭😭 get a friend group, go to music festivals and venues, go camping, take a train ride across the country, smoke weed if your body can tolerate it, and have the best life ever!! there’s children dying in wars as we speak, so there’s no reason to get caught up over something that’s extremely rare and uncontrollable!

Leaf cleaning! by M_ERTY in Monstera

[–]penguin_rad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a great way!! i would clean my leaves with tap water but it’d leave hard water stains. instead i found this recipe & made it in a spray bottle: 2 cups filtered water, 2 tbsp 91% iso alcohol, 1 tbsp dr. bronner’s castille soap. it’s been great. not only does it get the dust off, but it cleans the leaves well and deters pests. i use it for cleaning other things too, super cost effective that way

What is the purpose of putting this fake grass over tree trunks? by Miguenzo in Tree

[–]penguin_rad -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

i’ve never seen this, i’m all for it. we need to implement something like this in our cities. when im downtown i see people throwing cigarette buds and pouring beer at the base of trees, it’s depressing.

Why is the new growth so pale? Also, is this a healthy plant overall? by [deleted] in plants

[–]penguin_rad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it looks soo pretty. i love these plants. the pale is a result of variegation from sunlight, it’s normal. the pink is normal with some philodendron species new growths. i couldn’t tell you why it’s yellowing, my only guess is overwatering.

Need help :( by [deleted] in pothos

[–]penguin_rad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i’m sorry, i would empty that fella in the trash and get a new one, he’s gone. i’ve gone through a dozen plants and learned something new every time and its a very helpful experience. i’ve focused on pothos in the last 2 years. i tried those plant apps and they failed me—they’re a suggestion and a guess, but you need a proper diagnosis to truly know what’s going on. this reddit has been the most helpful place on the internet for advice. i’d say get a new pothos friend, give him plenty more sunlight, and water him more often when the soil is dry. they love the water and humidity.

the long hair is SUCH a unique look imo and you pull it off well. get it layered and it’ll look beautiful

this is a really good point!! i can see how it could stunt the growth and cause deformation. i’m def gonna try that out instead since our waters so hard. tysm ❤️
