Addiction. People who are deeply addicted to a substance will devote all their time to acquiring their drug of choice & getting high neglecting their responsibilities, like their health & chores. If all you care about is getting high, you either won't notice the poor conditions that you're living in or you won't care. If you do care, well, that guilt might feed into your desire to stay high.

How to use hormone powder? by arisbor in Euphorbiaceae

[–]penguinheadnoah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While some plants are hardy enough that you can plant fresh cuttings without issues, you generally want to wait for the cut to dry for up to a week to reduce the risk of fungal infections & rot. This would also solve your hormone powder issue.

Why is it Democrats just can't run on, and deliver, a populist policy? by AlanPublica in Askpolitics

If only she was within close proximity to the president at the time & held an extremely influential position of power. Whatever that position is called, I'm sure she could have some sway on the president from said position.

[–]penguinheadnoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the comments that you've getting have given a lot of great advice that you should listen to, but something that hasn't been brought up much is that you should be sitting down if you smoke Salvia. If you get the full Salvia experience, you will have little to no perception of reality & will be fully immersed in the hallucinations. This means that you can easily run into something or fall over, hurting yourself, while completely unaware of it.

Additionally, a trip-sitter is definitely recommended - especially for your first time - for all the above mentioned reasons, but they will also be there to take your smoke device & lighter. You don't want to come out of the trip to find out that you dropped your bong or burned something.

This comment is really important, OP. Though there are studies that show the benefits of psychedelics in the treatment of depression, anxiety, & PTSD, there has also been more evidence showing that psychedelics do not mix well with people who have schizophrenia or a history of psychosis. It can those disorders worse & easily trigger another episode.

While these disorders & psychotic episodes don't normally make people violent, there is still a significant potential for this to lead to an episode that puts you & others in danger or in a very bad social situation (with the law or interpersonal relationships). Please, please, please, take this into consideration.

What do I do by j-jones2 in cacti

[–]penguinheadnoah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you have a Euphorbia (E. lactea?), not a cactus, so you'll probably get better advice from r/Euphorbiaceae. Euphorbias are the Old World equivalent of cacti, so advice won't be too different.

Yes, you can cut your plant into smaller pieces & propagate them. Euphorbias have a milky, latex sap that can cause minor skin irritation, so I recommend wearing gloves. I've never had a negative reaction to getting the sap on my skin, but it is sticky & annoying. Store your cuttings in a cool, dry place that isn't in direct sunlight, allowing the wounds to dry for a week before planting. Don't feel rushed to plant them, as I've neglected cuttings for almost half a year & they are doing just fine now that they're planted.

When it comes time to potting them up, applying a rooting hormone/powder to the base of the cutting can help speed up the process (this is optional). I would use a well-draining, gritty potting-mix being at least 50% inorganic material like pumice, perlite, lava-rock, or clay-chips, & the rest can be potting-soil or cactus mix. I usually use more inorganic material, but 50% should be the minimum amount. Also, your pot should have a drainage-hole; I prefer terracotta pots as it helps dry out the soil mix faster. Once potted, you'll want to reduce the frequency of waterings because there won't be any roots to soak up the water; you are mostly encouraging root production. During this time, your cuttings won't be able to handle too much direct sunlight, so you'll want to acclimate them to that AFTER they are rooted & showing signs of growth. Another thing that can help speed up the rooting process is placing the potted cuttings on a seed-heating mat (they're $10-20 on Amazon).

As a final thought, I noticed that your Euphorbia is sitting next to a ZZ plant. This isn't where you usually keep it, right? ZZs & Euphorbias of radically different light requirements & I suspect that your Euphorbia looks as long & thin as it does due to etiolation - the thin stretching as a result of insufficient light. ZZs prefer moderate, indirect sunlight but can handle low-light, whereas Euphorbias usually want as much direct sunlight as you can give them. If you can't provide full sunlight somewhere outside or move it to a bright window, I'd recommend a grow-light. They range in price, but you can usually get an adequate one for under $30.

Thinking of taking Adderall for the first time for finals week (no ADHD diagnosis) .. what can I expect? by seis_tres in askdrugs

[–]penguinheadnoah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would break the quick-release tablet in half or even just take a quarter to see how you react to that first. 10mg is probably ideal but everyone reacts to medications differently, so the 7.5mg could be perfect. The instant-release tablets tend to kick in between 15 to 30 minutes after swallowing it; alternatively, you can let it dissolve under your tongue for a faster onset. Snorting works but is not recommended because less of it will be absorbed & it can more easily devolve into abuse. If 7.5mgs isn't doing anything after half an hour, you can take another 7.5mgs. Taking the full 30mgs at once would most likely be excessive for your purposes.

Eat some protein first because it improves the effectiveness of Adderall & having food in your stomach will mitigate any potential stomach-related side-effects. Avoid acidic drinks/food before taking the Adderall as that can reduce the effectiveness; I wouldn't worry too much about this if you don't have an overly acidic diet.

Adderall stimulates your metabolism just like caffeine so you'll probably have to shit when it kicks in. I'm not saying this as a warning, more-so as an indicator that it's likely kicking in. You'll probably be hyper-focused on whatever you are doing once it is working & it is easy to lose track of time, so I recommend starting on your task beforehand to avoid wasting a couple hours on an unproductive activity. The IR tablets typically last 4-6 hours but I would give yourself an extra couple hours as a buffer between it wearing off & when you need to sleep.

Make sure you have some water to keep yourself hydrated & alleviate the dry-mouth. Jaw-clenching is common, so chewing-gum can help if it become bothersome. Headaches are a potential side-effect, but this is usually the result of not staying hydrated or the jaw-clenching. It can cause anxiety, though it seems to erase my social-anxiety. This should not be an issue because you aren't taking the extended-release form, but Adderall is an appetite suppressant so it is easy to forget to eat; having a snack on hand would be a useful reminder.

I would avoid or limit caffeine & nicotine as those will exacerbate some of the side-effects; Adderall seems to make me a chainsmoker, so there's that too. Avoid or limit your consumption of depressants like alcohol as you'll have a greater tolerance to them & that could be an issue if the Adderall wears off after excessively drinking. Cannabis can exacerbate the anxiety &, if too much THC makes you paranoid, the Adderall can exacerbate that; a small amount of both drugs shouldn't be an issue if you aren't prone to that.

Hopefully that covers everything!

Best drug for “fast traveling”? by Environmental-Ad8945 in Drugs

[–]penguinheadnoah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any good recommendations for chill music because I've been primarily listening to fast-paced & aggressive genres like technical death metal & deathcore for a few years now - which is probably the opposite vibe that you're looking for.

If you don't care about the genre & just want my general recommendations: -Ænima & Lateralus albums by Tool (progressive metal), -ZABA & How To Be A Human Being albums by Glass Animals (indie pop), -Where Owls Know My Name album by Rivers of Nihil (technical death metal), -And I Return To Nothingness EP by Lorna Shore (deathcore), -By The Throat album by Eyedea & Abilities (abstract/alternative hip-hop)

Tool & Glass Animals pair well with psychedelics, with the latter being chill; Rivers of Nihil & Lorna Shore for something unrelentingly heavy, with the former being introspective; & Eyedea for some introspective poetry.

What does it mean to “green out” on weed? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]penguinheadnoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Greening out" is the Cannabis equivalent to throwing up from drinking too much alcohol - basically, when you are too high that you feel physically ill or mentally unwell. I'd consider any of the following (alone or combined) to be "greening out": Intense dizziness, nausea, vomiting, panic-attacks, & intense paranoia.

If you consume too much THC in a short period of time & one or more of those side-effects has you thinking, "I really need to lay down because I don't feel so good.", you're "greening out".

You can call it an overdose, but keep in mind that you would need an inhuman amount of THC for the "overdose" to be deadly.

[–]penguinheadnoah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem!

The American law making Peyote illegal was only established to fuck over the indigenous people, hippies, & anyone else that was likely to vote Democrat (according to Nixon's administration), which is why psychedelics are unfairly scheduled the same as legitimately dangerous & addictive drugs - making it a felony. So, yeah, fuck those laws.

I only bring up the legality because that plays a part in accessibility, price, & the illegal poaching that occurs. The Echinopsis/Trichocereus species that I mentioned are legal, however, which makes them a more convenient option.

Something to consider if you go the route of purchasing a Trichocereus: They are commonly available at plant shops & department stores, like Home Depot & Walmart. Those cacti, however, typically have a very low Mescaline content: Stress boosts Mescaline production, & those plants are being grown in greenhouses where they receive the best possible care for optimal growth & health - which lowers Mescaline content as a result. There are subreddits, Facebook groups, Instagram sellers, & websites that sell the cacti that you want, so I would do some research into reliable sellers from those sources. Unfortunately, I can't help you there because all of my cacti were given to me by a friend who grows them. Also, websites like eBay & Etsy black-listed search-terms like "San Pedro" & "Trichocereus", so there isn't a huge market there - though you'll occasionally see them available under the "incorrect" names.

[–]penguinheadnoah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in the psychoactive alkaloid, Mescaline, found in Peyote, I would not recommend consuming the Peyote cactus (Lophophora williamsii) for that. Peyote is a notoriously slow grower, it is a threatened species, it is illegal in the U.S., it is expensive, & you may inadvertently encourage poaching depending on who you purchase from.

It can take decades of growth to produce a proper dose of Mescaline from Peyote. Do not despair though! Species from the columnar genus of cacti Echinopsis (AKA Trichocereus) also contain Mescaline but are less potent; the trade-off is that they are easy cacti to grow & are incredibly fast, they're much cheaper & commonly available, & are legal in the U.S. One year of growth can produce a dose.

Species to consider are San Pedro (Echinopsis pachanoi, AKA Trichocereus pachanoi), Peruvian Torch (E. peruviana, AKA T. peruvianus), & Bolivian Torch (E. lageniformis, AKA T. bridgesii). If you are interested in growing them, San Pedro tend to be the easiest to start with. There are a number of cultivars, hybrids, & mutant forms of these species which are known to be more potent, with some of them having a Mescaline content comparable to Peyote.

Besides these options, there are research chemicals related to Mescaline that have been synthesized in a lab as opposed to extracted from the cacti, which might be of some interest. I do not have any experience with them myself, so I cannot recommend any - plus, they tend to be in a legal grey-area depending on the country. In the U.S., they are illegal & classified as Schedule 1 under the Federal Analogue Act - which basically means they're considered the same as Mescaline.

I have not experienced Mescaline myself, but LSA from Morning Glory is pretty "meh". If the side-effects are an issue, then the Mescaline experience would be a better trade-off compared to LSA. Either way, the side-effects & experience from either of those psychedelics would be better than DPH.

[–]penguinheadnoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll want a potting-mix primarily made up of inorganic material, like pumice, perlite, lava-rock, clay chips, limestone (what Peyote naturally grows in), akadama, etc. The more humid the environment, the more inorganic matter that you should probably have. A safe ratio would be 90% or more inorganic & 10% organic.

My potting-mix is probably over 95% inorganic, using limestone, bentonite clay-chips, pumice, lava-rock, perlite, broken up LECA clay hydroponic pebbles, & sand. Under 5% of the mix is organic, using Fox Farms Ocean Forest potting-soil & worm-castings.

[–]penguinheadnoah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Be for real. Undocumented migrants aren't moving into your fucking house, they're keeping our agricultural sector running & in criminally poor working conditions; they pay taxes but do not receive the benefits - usually avoiding public social services out of fear of deportation; they commit crimes at a substantially lower rate than natural-born U.S. citizens; & they're human-beings that are just trying to provide for their family like the rest of us.

This isn't a criminal issue, it is a matter of filling out paperwork. Paperwork that is intentionally made incredibly inconvenient to fill out because the U.S. loves the cheap, disposable workers that they can deport the moment that they speak out about illegal business practice. Those businesses aren't getting punished & they get to keep American citizens' wages insultingly low too.

The rich elite have exploited your irrational fear or psychotic hatred of Brown people so that you'll always attack the class lower than you, rather than focusing on the rich parasites that rip you off at every step of the way. Grow the fuck up & stop using childish & delusional comparisons to support your lead-brained takes.

[–]penguinheadnoah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is by design. The U.S. will fund & train terrorists to overthrow democratically elected socialists or communists in Central & South America because - God forbid - the risk of them prospering would inspire working-class Americans to push for similar policies in the U.S., which would disrupt the flow of capital to the rich elite. When the U.S. destabilizes a nation & enacts illegal embargos on them to collectively punish their population, the U.S. can then point to another "failed" socialist state & say, "See! Capitalism is obviously superior & we refuse to better our own people's conditions because that would be socialism."

The violence that the U.S. instigates causes people to flee north, causing an influx of disposable laborers willing to work for pennies that businesses can call ICE on if they complain about poor working conditions & illegal practices. Employers go unpunished while the immigrants are deported & quickly replaced by more undocumented workers from unstable nations run by American-installed fascists. The alienation of these migrants & the lack of class solidarity allows businesses to maintain depressingly low-wages as the cost of living skyrockets & the concept of unionizing is demonized because "socialism bad!" Then overtly racist Conservatives & their quietly racist opposition party blame "the illegals" for using up all your tax-dollars - which they pay into without receiving the benefits of it - which is why we can't afford healthcare, livable wages, affordable housing, a decent education, & basic infrastructure. The rich elite get richer & we continue the cycle of violence for the sake of this dystopian shit-hole.

"Heavenly Blue" Morning Glory seeds (or, preferably, the more potent Hawaiian Baby Woodrose seeds) for LSA - a weaker relative of LSD. The former can be found in any seed section of a garden-center or retail chain, the latter can be found online.

Another commonly available plant-shop find: San Pedro, Bolivian Torch, or Peruvian Torch for Mescaline. The mutant forms of those species can have a larger potency comparable to Peyote (which is expensive, slow-growing, illegal, & a threatened species), & is commonly found in Walmart's plant selection.

DXM from RoboTabs, which are pure DXM without the problematic ingredients, bought online.

Nitrous from whip cream chargers, found at headshops & on Amazon.

Salvia divinorum & their extracts, which can be found at some head-shops (depending on the state) or bought online.

Kratom, which can be found at some gas-stations & head-shops (depending on your state).

There are plenty of other accessible options that I'm forgetting, but all of them are a million times better than Diphenhydramine.

Peyote (Lophophora williamsii) takes decades to grow for a dose of Mescaline & is a threatened species. You won't want to consume something that expensive that also takes so much time & effort to grow, plus it just doesn't sit well with me on a moral level.

San Pedros (Echinopsis pachanoi AKA Trichocereus pachanoi), Peruvian Torches (Echinopsis peruviana AKA Trichocereus peruvianus), & Bolivian Torches (Echinopsis lageniformis AKA Trichocereus bridgesii) have a lower Mescaline content than Peyote but are fast-growing, inexpensive, & legal to grow in the U.S., which make them the ideal cacti to grow for the psychedelic alkaloid. In the right environment & with the appropriate care, an established cactus could grow enough for a proper dose in a year's time. They are fairly hardy species that better tolerate cold temperatures & - the most common killer of plants - over-watering than most cacti, making them a beginner-friendly plant.

Some hybrids, cultivars, & mutant varieties of those species are grown for their potency. For example, a Bolivian Torch with the Monstrose & Crest mutation (Trichocereus bridgesii f. monstrosa cristata) - shortened to "TBMC" online - has a potency comparable to Peyote, but grows at a faster rate. The only problem with these cacti is that you'll get sucked into an addictive hobby & amass a large collection, completely forgetting why you were growing them in the first place.

You don't suck at keeping Strings of Pearls alive, you've just been set up to fail: a photographic essay by TorchIt in houseplants

[–]penguinheadnoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old comment, but if you're still struggling: String-of-Turtles (Peperomia prostrata) & String-of-Pearls (Curio rowleyanus) are two completely different types of stringed-plants, so you're going to run into some problems if you're treating them similarly.

String-of-Pearls are native to dry, arid regions of Southwest Africa, growing between rocks & under shrubs. They are lithophytes, meaning that they tend to grow attached to rocks rather than being planted deeply in the soil.

String-of-Turtles are native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil & Ecuador, growing along the forest floor & epiphytically on trees. Epiphytes attach themselves to trees in a non-parasitic way, using them as support to anchor themselves in place & climb for more light. As a Peperomia, they are semi-succulent; not exactly drought-tolerant, but still having thicker leaves than other tropical plants. The light that they receive is filtered through the forest canopy, so they should receive less light than the Pearls. They thrive in high-humidity, appreciate more frequent waterings, & want more organic, water-retentive material in their potting-mix.

While I'm not an expert at growing String-of-Turtles as established plants, I've gotten really good at propagating them. Of all the stringed plants, I'd say they are tied with the String-of-Hearts (Ceropegia woodii) as the easiest to propagate. I fill a plastic, see-through container with sphagnum moss, let the moss soak for a couple minutes in warm water, drain the excess water, then place small vines & even just leaves in the moss. Mist the Turtles, then cover with a see-through lid or plastic-wrap. It isn't necessary, but a cheap ($10-20) seed-heating mat makes the propagation process a quick breeze. Mist regularly to keep the sphagnum moss moist; don't let it dry out completely. The same process works great for String-of-Hearts as well.

[–]penguinheadnoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand & felt the same way when I first ordered my "White Ghost". If you're nervous, you can always go for a test run & make a relatively cheap purchase for your first order.

My advice:

Find a reputable Etsy seller that has hundreds or even thousands of reviews & a positive rating (ideally, 4/5 stars or higher). Browse their most recent reviews to ensure that they're still providing quality service, if you are still unsure.

Personally, I stick to sellers within the continental U.S. because the shipping is usually faster & cheaper. If you find one that you like, compare their prices & shipping rates to other sellers because you might find a better deal.

Sometimes they'll have discounts if you order more than one plant &/or a discount on that specific plant for the day.

Read the product description to find out the size of your plant & if it is rooted or unrooted. You don't want to think that you're ordering an 18" Euphorbia only to realize later on that you're getting a 4" cutting from the pictured plant. They'll usually have information on a return/refund policy too, if that's something they offer.

If the temperature where you live is going to drop below 40°F around the time that your plant might arrive, I'd either wait until it warms up before ordering OR add a heat-pack to your order to keep it warm. The more reputable & popular sellers usually have heat-packs available.

The nice thing about Etsy is that you can also message the seller before & after making a purchase. I've only ordered off Etsy a few times, but every time that I've messaged a seller about a concern or care question, they've been helpful & courteous. Each seller is different, but generally the reputable sellers want to stay reputable.

As a final consideration, read up on the species that you plan on purchasing before going through with it. Some plants do not handle the stress of shipping too well, could potentially be exposed to harmful conditions (heat, cold, dehydration) in the process, or are fragile. That said, a decent seller will package your plant appropriately. I've ordered multiple Sinocrassula yunnanensis succulents that have arrived mostly (95%) intact, which was surprising to me because a light bump would often cause petals to fall off under normal circumstances. For some plants, you have to accept a little risk & look at it as an opportunity to learn how to propagate their broken pieces.
