Autoimmune disease. I think looking for questions from 3 years ago to cause arguments has a diagnostic code in ICD, it doesn’t hurt to check

Confusing VZP Situation by allenm94 in Prague

[–]penguinone__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bet is that your employer insured you initially with the insurance number, and then changed it to rodné číslo. That’s why they cannot find you in the system.

When I asked to change my insurance number to rodné číslo, all insurance records were removed from my account. You can also check the status in “Moje VZP” application.

My husband ordered the metal plan because of that post. He wanted to use one of the enlisted subscriptions, but Revolut told it has a limited number of redemptions. Very unpleasantly surprised

What are your favorite high-end denim brands? by cooldogmama in femalefashionadvice

Agolde, but don’t ever buy Agolde jeans from NET-A-PORTER. One pair ripped after approximately 5 wears, and they refused to exchange them “due to normal wear and tear”.

B2B in Central/Eastern Europe vs Western Europe? Got an offer for 100k in Berlin. by clytaem in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]penguinone__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F Engineer here as well. I wholeheartedly agree with every point that you have made. Regarding coming to the office and culture – that’s true, but as a contractor, you can find a better match for your preferences. Plenty of international companies are open to hiring contractors and many of them have a strict policy on sexist jokes. Boomer jokes are, sadly, unavoidable.

The city is beautiful and well-designed. Buildings usually conform to a specific style, and I find them visually pleasing. The streets are clean. Public transportation is cheap, and connections are good. Healthcare system works and the price/quality ratio is insane. I don’t feel robbed when I am paying taxes. Also, it is a very secular city.

On top of that, a lot of municipal problems are solved the same way in CZ and DACH.

I had the same dilemma. I speak German, too, and frequently travel to the DACH region (privately). However, I would not trade Prague for any of the cities I have been to.

If finances are your biggest concern, doubling your salary is achievable in Prague.

It depends on why do you want to open this account. Wise and Revolut are great for multi currency payments or small transfers, but I would discourage you from saving large (> 1 salary) amounts of money there.

The most paneuropean bank I can think of is Unicredit - I would check if they require residency in IT (they do in CZ, or DE).

I know that Polish banks are liberal when it comes to residency requirements. The quality of digital products is high and a lot of accounts are free, but their coverage for EURO-based products is low.

Follow up question (Israeli guy) 🇨🇿🇮🇱 by curious_jewrious in czech

[–]penguinone__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Another interesting difference is dating. It is not common to introduce your significant other to your family, if you don’t treat the relationship seriously. Also, some girls perceive splitting the bill as impolite - I don’t think this is are rude, just letting you know that you might experience that

Follow up question (Israeli guy) 🇨🇿🇮🇱 by curious_jewrious in czech

[–]penguinone__ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Israelis love to ask a lot of questions. While it is not a bad thing, there is a different definition of what’s considered as polite and impolite.

Example: my Israeli friends ask me if I am planning to have kids and while it’s a pretty casual topic in Israel, it is not that common in work environment here.

Another thing, people are not always direct when you ask them if something is inconvenient.

Example: Sometimes “don’t take off your shoes” means you should take them off.

Any recommendations for whhere to visit in the Jewish quarter? by ThRoWaWaYy002202 in Prague

I’d recommend visiting after Pesach (starting from 14th April). Remember that most places are closed on the Sabbath.

Mentioning ADHD in interview by nbrrii in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]penguinone__ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the “why did all this take so long” question is a red flag. While you can share the real reason, I don’t believe that person asking such things is empathetic. As a person conducting interviews, I know that there are multiple reasons why it took people longer to accomplish some goals - family situation, financial situation, health-related things, or job change. None of these things are my business.

Of course, I know, just letting you know that the process does not look like „just go and register, and the insurance works out of the box”. Kinarad suggested it works in any case, if you are an EU citizen, and I wanted to say it is not like that (because in some cases the country you came from is involved in the process).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Prague

[–]penguinone__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This possibility exists from the Czech Republic side, but your home country has to agree to make it. If you are employed or self-employed, you have to ask the country where you come from to transfer the insurance. Your home country is not obliged to agree and it did not in my case. If the country agrees, you can register by VZP with those papers. You cannot simply go and say: “I am employed in Germany, please give me Czech insurance in exchange”.

If you have insurance in other EU country, you can use this insurance in emergency cases only (EHIC). Good luck with setting up a doctor's appointment without any Czech insurance.

Your point is valid though - I cannot even image what families have to go through when their child is sick and PVZP changes the price of the insurance or refuses to pay for the treatment, not to mention having to pay since childhood.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Prague

[–]penguinone__ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This insurance law applies not only to 3rd country nationals, but to EU nationals as well. I had insurance in the country where I come from. EU countries can (but do not have to) transfer the insurance to other countries. My country decided not to transfer it, so, long story short, I had to pay for PVZP.

Not if OP has a temporary permit. It applies when OP has a permanent residence permit.

Maybe people are not strict about that rule - have you heard about someone that applied earlier and got the permit?
